Eligibility depends on what you bought, when you bought it, whether you downloaded or used it, and the policy for your account region. If the option is missing, contact PlayStation Support.
Request a refund through Transaction History
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that made the purchase.
- Open Transaction History and select the purchase.
- If Request Refund is shown, select it and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If the option is unavailable or the request is not progressing, contact PlayStation Support. Its online assistant can check eligibility where available.
Have the purchase type and date ready, along with whether the content was downloaded, streamed, preloaded, launched, or used. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.
Refund rules depend on what you bought
| Purchase type | Published timing | Important conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Games, DLC, and season passes | Request within 14 days of purchase | Content must not have been downloaded or streamed. Faulty-content exceptions may apply. |
| In-game consumables | Request within 14 days of purchase | Item must have been bought through PlayStation Store, and the game must not have been launched after purchase. Faulty-content exceptions may apply. |
| Subscription | Request within 14 days of sign-up | The stated rule covers the first payment, not recurring fees. Use may reduce the refund. |
| Pre-order placed more than 14 days before release | Request cancellation before release | Main content must not have started downloading or preloading. |
| Pre-order placed 14 days or less before release | Request within 14 days of purchase | Main content must not have been downloaded or preloaded. |
These are PlayStation’s published criteria, not unconditional return rights. The support pages say the standard 14-day criteria are subject to category-specific conditions, faulty-content exceptions, and applicable local law. See PlayStation’s refund guidance and confirm the policy for your account region.
Games, downloadable content, and season passes
For a standard refund request, act within 14 days and do not download or stream the content first. If you have already downloaded or streamed it, the ordinary criteria may not be met; contact Support if the content is faulty or you believe local law gives you additional rights.

In-game consumables
Virtual currency and other consumables have a separate condition: the game must not have been launched after the purchase. PlayStation says items bought outside gameplay may be delivered the next time you start the game, while items bought in-game are delivered immediately. If you want to seek a refund, check the timing and avoid launching the game after buying.
Subscriptions
The 14-day period starts when you sign up, and PlayStation’s stated refund route applies to the initial payment rather than later recurring subscription charges. A free trial counts toward the period: in PlayStation’s example, if a seven-day trial converts to a paid subscription, seven days remain. If you used the subscription, PlayStation may reduce the refund; examples for PlayStation Plus include online play, downloading monthly games, and cloud storage.

Turning off future payments is not a refund request. It stops the next renewal; access continues until the next payment is due, when the subscription ends.
Pre-orders
The cancellation window depends on when you placed the order relative to release. If you pre-ordered more than 14 days before release, the published guidance allows a request before release, provided the main content has not started downloading or preloading. For an order placed 14 days or less before release, the stated window is up to 14 days after purchase, with the same restriction on the main content.

Check automatic-download settings: a download or preload may begin without another manual step. Canceling a pre-order can also remove access to bonus content made available early. PlayStation’s pre-order cancellation guidance is localized; verify the instructions for your region.
Wallet top-ups, Online ID changes, and voucher codes
PlayStation’s support FAQ says wallet top-ups cannot be cancelled through its refund process. A new Online ID purchase is not refundable unless faulty; changing back to a previous ID is free. If you bought a voucher code from a retailer rather than PlayStation Store, contact that retailer, because its policy applies.

How the refund is paid and how long it may take
PlayStation says a refund may arrive within 10 days. It goes back to the original payment method where possible; if that is not available, PlayStation credits the PlayStation wallet. Some methods and cases, including wallet-fund vouchers, may not support a refund to the original payment method.
If you receive a refund confirmation but cannot see the funds, check your wallet. For a refund expected to go to a non-wallet payment method, PlayStation advises contacting the payment provider if needed. The available payment routes vary by method and region; a localized pre-order page lists some methods that receive wallet credit instead, but that list should not be treated as universal.

Check the policy for your country
PlayStation Support’s main refund guide is localized, and the relevant rules can vary by country and purchase type. The North American terms dated March 2026 say Store purchases are final except as allowed by the agreement or current cancellation policy. SIE’s Europe/UK terms separately describe additional cancellation rights under local law; the EEA 14-day framework and the effect of consenting to immediate digital delivery apply to that agreement’s territory and should not be generalized to other regions. Physical goods are covered by separate terms. Check the terms and cancellation policy for your account region, and retain any rights available under local law.
