Earn progress through technologies, Codices and science Special Projects, then keep an active Launch Pad for five turns after reaching the target.
How do you get a Science Victory in Civ 7?
- Build science across the Ages. Keep research progressing so you can unlock technologies and science-related projects that contribute to the victory score.
- Collect Codices. When they become available, acquire and slot them; Codices are one of the documented sources of Science Victory progress.
- Complete science Special Projects. Check the available projects and their rewards in the game interface. Choose a settlement that can support the required production.
- Reach 100 points. Track the current victory display rather than relying on a fixed build order from an older guide.
- Keep the Launch Pad active for five turns. Reaching 100 points starts the finish condition; the game does not end until the Launch Pad has remained active through the required hold period. Protect the settlement and avoid losing the structure during those turns.
Firaxis’s Test of Time update notes describe the Scientific Victory as “a race to 100 points,” followed by maintaining an active Launch Pad for five turns.
What gives Science Victory progress?
The documented progress sources include technologies, Codices and Special Projects. Science output matters because it helps you research the technologies and unlock the projects that advance the route, but the victory score is not just a measure of your science yield. Include Codices and projects in your plan rather than assuming that research alone will carry you to the target.
How should you plan the Launch Pad finish?
The Launch Pad is the final hold condition, so consider where you will build and defend it before you are close to 100 points. A settlement with sufficient production can handle the relevant construction demands; once the structure is active, keep the settlement secure and monitor the victory display until the five turns have passed. There is no single leader, civilization, map, difficulty or sequence of builds established as universally optimal: adapt your choices to the campaign.

What changed after the Test of Time update?
The Test of Time redesign replaced Legacy Paths with four victory categories—Military, Economy, Culture and Science—and made victory progress possible from Antiquity. A player may lead early enough to win before the final Age. Science remains a space-race category, but its score now reflects multiple milestones and activities rather than only a late-game project checklist.
That is why launch-era instructions to complete three Modern Age projects do not describe the current Test of Time scoring system. A September 2025 balance patch listed a Launch Pad cost of 1,560 Production and a base yield of 24 Science at Standard speed, but those are historical patch-specific figures, not dependable current requirements after the victory redesign. Check the live game interface for current project availability and values. The official September 30, 2026 Update 1.5.0 hotfix announcement focuses on stability and performance, including late-game Modern Age issues; it does not announce a new Science Victory ruleset in the announcement excerpt. The older figures appear in Civilization VII’s September 30, 2025 patch notes.
