There are three Slab Keys in Hollow Knight: Silksong: the Key of Indolent and Key of Heretic are inside The Slab, while the Key of Apostate is in the Putrified Ducts. Each opens locks bearing the matching name. If you entered The Slab from Choral Chambers, Apostate is the key that opens the way into the region’s wider routes.

Where to find all three Slab Keys
The two keys inside The Slab are pickups or rewards along its prison routes. The third is outside the region, in the Putrified Ducts.

Key of Indolent
Search the western rooms of The Slab for a key hanging from a chain. Break the chain to collect it. Penitent and Puny Penitent enemies appear after the key is freed, so be ready for a fight.

Key of Heretic
Reach the gauntlet in the northwest corner of The Slab. The route involves climbing to the top of the prison, circling around, and fighting through the enemies along the way. Defeat the final enemy in the gauntlet to receive the Key of Heretic.
Key of Apostate
Travel to the Putrified Ducts and search west of Huntress’s home for a Wardenfly corpse; the Key of Apostate is beside it. From the area’s main shaft, descend and head left, then climb into the dark tunnel on the left. Continue past a large enemy and use the corpse as your landmark. The local map can help confirm your position.

How to escape The Slab and reach its locked routes
The Slab is reachable by going west from Choral Chambers, but this entrance initially gives access only to the Bellway and a nearby bench, with little of the region open for exploration. The Key of Apostate opens the door into the wider Slab if Hornet was not captured and brought there earlier.
Capture can happen after defeating Bell Beast and obtaining Cling Grip, but before obtaining Faydown Cloak, in Deep Docks, Greymoor or Bilewater. Players who arrive that way can explore The Slab earlier; the Choral Chambers entrance instead makes Apostate the important key for opening up more of the area.

What each Slab Key unlocks
Match the key to the mark on the lock: Indolent opens Indolent-marked doors, Heretic opens Heretic-marked doors, and Apostate opens Apostate-marked doors. The Slab Keys reference lists three Indolent locks, three Heretic locks and two Apostate locks. Their destinations include the central area, southern routes, an east-side gauntlet and a room containing Rosaries. A Heretic door in the middle leads south; an Apostate door north of the Bellway leads to the region’s southernmost part.
Apostate also opens a room with hidden tunnels connecting toward First Sinner’s cell. The area reference says the Rune Rage skill progression requires all Slab Keys, so collect all three if you intend to complete that progression.

Recommended order
- If you entered from Choral Chambers: Treat the Putrified Ducts trip for Apostate as the priority; it opens the door to broader Slab exploration.
- Once exploring The Slab: Collect Indolent in the western room and clear the northwest gauntlet for Heretic.
- At locked doors: Check the lock’s name and use its matching key. Keep all three if you are pursuing the Rune Rage progression or the hidden route toward First Sinner’s cell.
