You receive it after completing the Old World Blues main quest and leaving the dome following the Think Tank confrontation. If you have not received the device yet, you cannot use it as the normal return route.
How to return from Big MT
- Finish the Old World Blues main quest, including the final confrontation with the Think Tank.
- Leave the dome. Once control returns, the Big Mountain Transportalponder! is awarded.
- Make sure you are not in combat or falling and have no active companions.
- Use the Big Mountain Transportalponder! from Big MT. It sends the Courier to the Mojave Drive-in.
What to do if the Transportalponder! is not available
Check whether you have completed the main quest and received the item after leaving the dome. The quest sequence includes X-2: Strange Transmissions!, X-8: High School Horror!, and X-13: Attack of the Infiltrator!, followed by returning to Dr. Klein, proceeding to the Forbidden Zone and dealing with Dr. Mobius, and resolving the Think Tank situation. The device is a quest reward, not an item available for the ordinary return trip before that finale.
Why the device may not work
- Combat or falling: The Transportalponder! cannot be activated in either state.
- Active companions: Dismiss companions before trying to use it.
- Unsupported location: In the Mojave, it works only in the Mojave Wasteland proper; listed exclusions include the Strip, Freeside, Hoover Dam, and Hidden Valley.
When traveling in the opposite direction—from the Mojave Wasteland to Big MT—the device takes the Courier to the Sink’s balcony.
Starting Old World Blues
If you have not started the add-on, Bethesda Support instructs players to follow the quest marker to the Mojave Drive-in between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. and activate the satellite. See Bethesda Support’s DLC access instructions.
