In Jurassic World Evolution 2, dinosaurs are not all available as soon as you start Sandbox Mode. Unlock their genomes through campaign progression—contracts, missions and research—then select them in Sandbox. If you mean a different dinosaur game, its rules may be different.
How to unlock dinosaurs for Sandbox Mode
- Play the campaign. Progress through its contracts and missions on the main campaign islands.
- Complete relevant research. Unlock the genome or other required content through the game’s research progression.
- Return to Sandbox. Once unlocked, a genome is available across islands, including Sandbox, for the rest of that game. Frontier Support describes this progression rule for Jurassic World Evolution 2.
Frontier’s developer overview also explains that Sandbox content must be unlocked by researching it in other modes: Feature Focus: Challenge and Sandbox Mode.

Do you have to finish the whole campaign?
Frontier’s published instructions identify contracts, missions and research as the unlock routes, but do not specify a universal star rating or say that every player must complete the entire campaign. Check the progression requirements for the particular genome you want rather than assuming one campaign milestone unlocks every dinosaur.
Why is a specific dinosaur missing?
- Check the genome and research progression. The species may still be locked through campaign content.
- Confirm the game. The original Jurassic World Evolution uses a similar progression pattern, but its detailed unlocks should not be assumed identical. Frontier says its genomes, buildings and technology are unlocked through contracts, missions and research on the main islands, then made available across islands, including Sandbox: Frontier Support for Jurassic World Evolution.
- Check your edition before considering an upgrade. Frontier lists five additional prehistoric species in the Jurassic World Evolution 2 Deluxe Edition: Huayangosaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, Megalosaurus, Geosternbergia and Attenborosaurus. That list does not establish that every missing dinosaur requires a Deluxe upgrade; identify the species and confirm your platform and edition first. - Distinguish an unlock issue from a park display limit. Frontier says previous-generation console players may display a maximum of 50 different species in a park. That is a display limit, not a genome unlock requirement.
If you mean another dinosaur game
“Sandbox Mode” does not identify a single game. These steps apply to Jurassic World Evolution 2; the original Jurassic World Evolution has a similar broad rule, while games such as The Isle use different mechanics. Check the exact game title before following an unlock guide.
