To get your first Ergo Sum Exotic sword, complete The Final Shape campaign, pick up the Destined Heroes quest from Ghost in the Lost City, and follow its tracked objectives until you use the Dyadic Prism to enter the Sacrarium and claim the sword. Quest steps and reward sources can change, so use the active in-game tracker for the exact current order.
How to start the Destined Heroes Exotic quest
Complete The Final Shape campaign on the character you want to use for the quest. Bungie says Pale Heart Ranks unlock after the campaign is completed: Bungie’s The Final Shape guide. The campaign is the access gateway described by the quest walkthroughs.

- Travel to the Lost City in the Pale Heart.
- Speak with Ghost and collect Destined Heroes.
- Open the quest tab, select Destined Heroes, and track it so its current objective is visible.
How to get Ergo Sum
Work through the objectives shown in Destined Heroes. The walkthrough sequence includes Queens missions, Lost in the Light, Found in the Dark, and Convalescence: Rootbound. The Rootbound milestone is the listed Convalescence requirement; the walkthrough does not require completing every later Convalescence quest or every Alone in the Dark quest. Because the sequence can be updated, follow the active tracker if it differs from a written list.
Finish the linked Pale Heart objectives
Continue through the later Pale Heart objectives and Queens, Part II when the quest directs you there. The exact order is best confirmed in-game, particularly if an objective appears locked or another quest step is active.

- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion

Use the Dyadic Prism to reach the Sacrarium
As you progress, obtain the Dyadic Prism. Use it to access the Sacrarium landing-zone node on the Pale Heart map, then follow the on-screen objective to the indicated statue or object and interact with it to claim Ergo Sum.
Check for a final turn-in
Some walkthroughs describe returning to the Lost City after claiming the sword, while others frame the Sacrarium interaction as the final claim. If Destined Heroes remains active after the interaction, return to Ghost and complete the displayed turn-in rather than assuming the quest is finished.

What to know about Ergo Sum rolls and the catalyst
Ergo Sum is an Exotic sword that uses the Energy weapon slot. Its frame, damage type, and Exotic trait combination can vary, so the quest unlocks the weapon rather than guaranteeing one specific configuration. Reviewed weapon references describe Pale Heart reward activities as sources of additional rolls. Check the live activity reward listings before relying on any particular repeat-farm source or assuming a drop is guaranteed.
A reviewed mission reference lists Grandmaster Excision as the catalyst source. This requirement is version-sensitive; confirm the current catalyst source and activity conditions in-game before planning around it.

Why the quest steps may not match an older guide
The step-by-step sequence and weapon-specific details come from walkthrough and community-maintained references, rather than a current official Bungie step list. Game updates can alter quest objectives and activity rewards. Bungie’s official expansion guide establishes the campaign and Pale Heart context, but not every Ergo Sum step. For a discrepancy, use the objective currently shown in your quest tracker and the reward information displayed for the activity.
