Fortnite: Save the World is free to play as of April 16, 2026. To access it, install or open Fortnite, go to Discover > Search, find Save the World, and select the official mode. Epic announced the free-to-play launch for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2.
How to access Save the World in Fortnite
- Install or open Fortnite on a supported platform.
- Open Discover, then navigate to Search.
- Search for Save the World and select the official mode. Epic’s current page lists these steps: Fortnite: Save the World.
Save the World is Fortnite’s cooperative PvE campaign: players fight monster hordes, build forts, craft weapons, find loot, and level up Heroes.
Which platforms can you use?
Epic named PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2 for the April 16, 2026 free-to-play launch. Availability and any account or service requirements can depend on the platform or cloud service; Epic’s announcement does not detail identical requirements for every option. Check the listing on the platform you plan to use.
Does free access include V-Bucks?
No: free-to-play access does not mean every new player earns V-Bucks. Epic’s March 11, 2026 announcement says Founders will continue earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing Challenges. Epic’s older currency explanation says non-Founders receive X-Ray Tickets for relevant gameplay rewards; it is historical background, not a current offer to buy Founder access. See Epic’s currency explanation.

Do you need to buy anything?
Epic’s access instructions are digital: download Fortnite and select Save the World from Discover. They do not specify a physical product or V-Bucks purchase as a requirement. V-Bucks cards are for game currency, not access to the mode: Epic’s V-Bucks card information.
