The Jaw Fossil becomes Tyrunt; the Sail Fossil becomes Amaura. After the mission, Reg can restore more fossils, including Old Amber into Aerodactyl.
Unlock Side Mission 027
Progress the story until Main Mission 10, “The Secrets of Mega Evolution,” becomes available. Guides place the side mission after Main Mission 10 is completed or during its availability, so check the lab once the main mission opens rather than relying on a precise point within it. - Go to the Pokémon Research Lab in southern Lumiose City.
- Take the elevator to the second-floor laboratory and speak with Reg.
- Accept Side Mission 027. Reg gives you 20,000 Pokédollars to buy the mission fossil.
Buy a fossil and have Reg restore it
Stone Emporium is on Vernal Avenue. The Jaw Fossil and Sail Fossil are each listed at 20,000 Pokédollars. Choose based on which Pokémon you want first:

Return to the second-floor lab and give Reg the fossil. The restored Pokémon joins your team. Completing the mission also rewards 2,500 Pokédollars, a Hard Stone, and 10 Kelpsy Berries.

Get more fossil Pokémon after the mission
Completing Side Mission 027 allows you to bring Reg additional fossils for restoration. Old Amber becomes Aerodactyl, a Rock/Flying Pokémon. Guides disagree on Old Amber’s Stone Emporium price: Siliconera lists 50,000 Pokédollars, while Gamer Guides and GameSpot list 30,000. Check the current in-game price before buying rather than relying on either figure. Siliconera’s fossil guide, Gamer Guides, and GameSpot’s fossils guide report the differing prices.

Does choosing a fossil lock you out of the other one?
No. The first purchase determines which Pokémon you receive for the mission, but Reg can restore further fossils afterward. You do not have to treat Tyrunt and Amaura as a permanent either-or choice; bring the other fossil to Reg when you obtain it.
