The clearest documented early Legendary farm in Borderlands 4 is Horace in Horace’s Oversight, in the Hungering Plains of the Fadefields. Progress through the main mission Down and Outbound to reach him, then use the arena’s Moxxi’s Big Encore machine to fight him again. Horace can drop Aegon’s Dream, a Vladof Legendary assault rifle—but the drop is random, not guaranteed.
How to unlock Horace and farm Aegon’s Dream
- Advance the campaign through Down and Outbound. This early main mission leads to Horace’s Oversight, where you can encounter Horace. The arena is in the Hungering Plains region of the Fadefields. (PC Gamer’s Aegon’s Dream guide, September 22, 2025.)
- Defeat Horace and check the drops. The named weapon to look for is Aegon’s Dream, a Legendary Vladof assault rifle. Horace is a repeatable farming target, but the guide does not establish a guaranteed drop or a numeric drop rate.
- Use Moxxi’s Big Encore to replay the fight. The machine at the arena lets you respawn Horace for another attempt. The game’s official overview also describes Big Encore as a way to replay boss fights and farm gear (PlayStation.Blog, April 30, 2025).
- Repeat only while the reward is worth your time. Each attempt is another chance, not a promise. PC Gamer’s author reported obtaining Aegon’s Dream after a few runs; that is one player’s experience, not an expected attempt count or drop-rate estimate.
What makes Aegon’s Dream worth trying
Aegon’s Dream fires fire and cryo rockets simultaneously, according to PC Gamer’s guide. The guide describes cryo as strong against armor and fire as effective against flesh, so the weapon can cover different enemy defenses. Its unique Prophetic perk and Legendary status make it a distinctive target, but neither rarity nor the name alone guarantees it will outperform your current gun.

Copies can have different manufacturer parts. The guide contrasts a Torgue sticky-projectile part with a CoV part that increases magazine size. Inspect the weapon card on the copy you find and judge its actual behavior, damage and handling; do not assume every Aegon’s Dream has identical parts.

Keep replacing under-leveled gear when a better fit drops. A Legendary can be exciting, but a weapon’s usefulness depends on its current stats, parts and how it handles the enemies in front of you. Borderlands 4’s Licensed Parts system can combine traits from different manufacturers, so a gun’s manufacturer name by itself is not a complete performance ranking. PlayStation’s overview explains the broad manufacturer identities:
- Order: precision and high-powered bursts.
- Ripper: charges before firing fully automatically.
- Daedalus: multiple ammunition types.
- Tediore: reloads by throwing the weapon.
- Maliwan: elemental damage.
- Jakobs: critical hits can ricochet.
- Vladof: high fire rate and large magazines.
- Torgue: explosive rounds that can switch to sticky projectiles.
Use those traits as practical comparison points: favor precision for accurate shots, ammunition flexibility for changing situations, or elemental and explosive effects when they suit the fight. Then compare the actual weapon card rather than keeping a weaker gun solely because it is Legendary.

Other farming options—and what is not an early shortcut
The official PlayStation overview says full missions can be replayed and bosses can be fought again through Big Encore. These are general ways to revisit content and pursue loot; a particular replay does not make a specific Legendary guaranteed. PlayStation’s overview says Legendary drops are intended to feel special, not routine.
Weekly Wildcard missions and the Weekly Big Encore Boss are rotating activities, not a fixed early-campaign route. 2K’s August 29, 2025 roadmap describes Weekly Wildcard missions as offering a guaranteed Legendary reward and Weekly Big Encore Bosses as having increased drop rates (2K Newsroom). Borderlands Support’s notes for the December 11, 2025 update also describe a repeatable guaranteed Legendary from that period’s Wildcard mission (Borderlands Support). Because the missions and rewards rotate, those dated examples do not identify what is active in October 2026 or establish that a new campaign character can access them. The official roadmap identifies Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode as post-game content, so it should not be confused with an early-game farming option.

How to set expectations for the farm
No authoritative numeric drop rate or expected number of Horace attempts is established by the sources cited here. Treat Aegon’s Dream as a target you may need to pursue across repeated fights, not as a guaranteed reward after a set number of kills. If the grind stops being useful, continue the campaign and revisit your gear as new drops arrive.
