Dice can pay quickly but can also cost you your stake; treasure and alchemy are alternatives, while theft brings selling friction and the risk of getting caught. No reviewed guide establishes a universal fastest method or a comparable earnings-per-hour rate, so choose based on what you have unlocked and how much risk, travel, and hauling you can accept.
Choose a money route that fits your progress
Groschen comes from several sources, but their usefulness changes with your location, quest progress, skills, and access to merchants. The table compares the practical trade-offs rather than ranking methods by an unsupported earnings rate. Guide details below were published mainly in February 2025; HowToPlayHub labels its page as checked for Patch 1.5.3 in March 2026, but current-build prices and mechanics can differ.

Start with rewards and surplus loot
Claim the Miller’s early quest payouts
PowerPyx lists these rewards for the Miller brawler sequence: Melee at the Mill (155 Groschen), More Melee at the Mill (20), and Wine, Women and Blood (200), for 375 Groschen total. These are the guide’s listed one-time quest rewards, not a repeatable income rate. Its guide also says you can bet on yourself during the fights, but any extra payout depends on the result.
Turn ordinary encounters into sales
After defeating enemies or clearing a bandit camp, check weapons, armor, valuables, and spare gear for items worth selling. Keep equipment that is a useful upgrade; sell the rest when you reach a merchant. If you are short on carrying capacity, HowToPlayHub suggests prioritizing lighter items such as gauntlets, helmets, and weapons over heavy armor. Treat this as a practical guide tip, not a universal value-to-weight ranking: the best choice depends on the items and prices you encounter.

PC Gamer recommends using Henry’s horse to carry surplus until a merchant is available. That reduces the need to abandon loot on the road, but you still have to make the trip to sell it.
Use dice only if you can afford the risk
Epic’s early-game route points to Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn, west of Troskowitz, as an early place to play for money. Its guide reports wagers from 3 to 130 Groschen at that opportunity. A larger stake raises what you stand to win, but it also raises what you can lose; treat dice as a gamble, not a dependable farming loop.
Epic also describes doing manual labor for an innkeeper to get an initial stake. Another guide recommends saving before a game, but save behavior can depend on the current version. Do not count on reloading as guaranteed income.

Unlock smithing as a repeatable option
According to Epic, speaking with Radovan in Tachov during the Wedding Crashers route gives Henry basic recipes, including the Work Axe and Farmer’s Horseshoes. Those items can be made from scrap metal and sold to another blacksmith. This makes smithing a useful option once the recipe and materials are available, rather than an immediate source of cash at the very start.
Epic’s 2025 guide says the Artisan perk improves sale prices for weapons, armor, or clothing by 10%. Because perk behavior can change between builds, check the current in-game description before planning around that figure.
Try treasure or alchemy when they suit your route
Treasure maps
Treasure can provide Groschen and valuables, but PC Gamer notes that locating map sites can be difficult. Exploring and asking innkeepers about rumored locations may help; the available guide does not establish a consistent payout or how long a search will take.

Herbs and potions
PC Gamer describes potion-making as another way to earn money and notes that herbs can be gathered and dried. HowToPlayHub says potion quality can affect sale price and that skill or perk progression can increase the number of doses. Those progression details are secondary-guide claims; check the recipes and outcomes in your current game before investing time or ingredients on that basis.
Understand the costs of selling stolen goods
Ordinary merchants generally refuse goods they recognize as stolen. PowerPyx and HowToPlayHub describe Fence Whitebeard at the Nomad’s Camp as an early buyer, but report that his funds are limited—about 200 to 240 Groschen. A fence is therefore not an unlimited outlet for stolen loot.
PowerPyx says stored stolen items lose their stolen marker after roughly one to two in-game weeks and may then be sold normally. Guards can seize marked goods if they search Henry. Theft also risks fines or punishment and can affect town reputation. The guides differ on exact skill or perk requirements for particular selling options, so do not rely on a specific skill-tree route without checking your current game.

Epic identifies Horse Handler Mikolai at the Nomad’s Camp as a buyer for stolen horses. Published guides disagree on how much of a horse’s appraised value a sale returns, so no percentage is reliable enough to use here.
Make a practical early-game loop
- Take available work and quests. Use straightforward rewards to build a stake without risking money at dice.
- Loot selectively after encounters. Keep useful upgrades and prioritize saleable surplus; use the horse for extra carrying capacity when available.
- Sell when you reach a suitable merchant. Avoid carrying heavy items indefinitely if a sale is nearby.
- Use smithing after the recipes unlock. Turn available scrap metal into items such as the Work Axe or Farmer’s Horseshoes and sell them to a blacksmith.
- Choose optional risks deliberately. Use dice only with money you can lose, and account for the time, limited buyers, and crime consequences involved in theft.
