Choose the edition you own and install it from your launcher library. This applies to a PC entitlement; purchases made through console, mobile, Steam, or another store may follow that store’s own rules.
Install your existing PC copy on the new computer

On the new PC, download the Minecraft Launcher from Minecraft’s official download page and install it.

Open the launcher and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the original PC purchase.

Choose the edition included with your purchase. If it is listed as owned, select Install; once installed, select Play.

Minecraft’s official PC store FAQ says you do not need to buy Minecraft again for a new computer. The existing entitlement is associated with the purchasing account, not just the old computer.
Why does the launcher say Buy Now?
For an edition you own, the launcher should offer installation or Play. If it instead shows Buy Now or the edition is missing, first check ownership and account sign-in rather than buying again. Minecraft Help says a missing Play button is likely to mean the active Microsoft account does not own Minecraft.

Check the purchase-confirmation email and the Microsoft account’s Order History to identify which account made the purchase.

Make sure that account is signed in to both the Minecraft Launcher and Microsoft Store. If Play is still missing, sign out of both, then sign back in with the owning account. Minecraft Help also recommends signing in to the Xbox app with that account as a troubleshooting step.

Check that you selected the edition covered by the purchase. Java and Bedrock are distinct editions, and ownership of one does not make it available on every device or platform.

Does a purchase on another platform transfer to PC?
Not automatically in every case. The no-repurchase guidance is for an existing PC entitlement installed on another PC. Purchases made through PlayStation, Nintendo, Apple iOS, Google Play, or Steam can be subject to those platforms’ terms. Minecraft’s EULA directs purchases through those services to the relevant platform terms; its new-device guidance directs users to install from the store where they originally bought the game.
Before paying, check the original purchase platform, the account used there, the edition, and the device you want to play on. Minecraft lists Java cross-play for Windows, Mac, and Linux, while Bedrock supports cross-play among supported Windows, console, and mobile platforms. Those edition and platform differences mean that using the same account does not make every purchase interchangeable.

Will your worlds transfer to the new computer?
Owning the game on the new PC does not move local world files from the old one. Treat the worlds as a separate transfer: back them up or move them using instructions for the device and edition you play, before wiping or disposing of the old computer. Minecraft’s new-device guidance discusses cloud storage, physical storage, or Realms depending on platform.
What if the old account was never migrated?
Mojang account migration to Microsoft ended on December 18, 2023, according to Minecraft Help’s account migration information. The page says Minecraft Support no longer assists with migration-related queries and that continued Java Edition play requires purchasing the game using a Microsoft account. An old unmigrated Mojang account cannot be treated as an ordinary active PC entitlement for this installation process.
