To get more technology points in Graveyard Keeper 2, use the Study Table in the tower to study eligible items. If you are out of Science, replenish it by decomposing an expendable item or a Science Kit; then spend that Science on items you have not studied yet. For points earned through ordinary work, check the color required by your next technology and focus on activities that generate that color. Science and technology points are different resources, and having enough points does not necessarily unlock a node if its prerequisites or progression conditions are unmet.
Understand the two resources before you grind
The Study Table has two distinct actions that are easy to confuse:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Decompose an item to gain Science. The item is consumed.
- Study an eligible item, spending Science and sometimes Faith to receive technology points and the item’s alchemy runes.
In other words, decomposing an item does not directly award technology points. It supplies the Science that can be spent on a study. If you have points to spend but no Science, studying cannot solve that immediate shortage; if you have Science but no eligible item you have not studied, you need another study subject.
Keeper’s Field Guide II, updated October 1, 2026 for PC update 1.007, reports that study awards range from 10 to 150 technology points and are paid once per item. The exact award depends on the item, so do not assume every study is worth the same amount. Check the Study Table’s displayed requirements and reward before committing materials.

Think of the table as a conversion loop, not a general point dispenser: an expendable item can become Science, and Science can be spent to study a different eligible item. The point reward depends on the study subject, while the Science return depends on what you decompose. That means there are two separate decisions to make: what you can safely consume for Science, and which new item is worth studying. A large study reward is not automatically the best choice if its subject is needed for another task or its displayed costs are more than you can spare.
Use the Study Table for one-time awards
1. Check what you need to unlock
Before spending Science, open the technology tree and identify the specific node you want. Note its point color and cost, as well as any visible prerequisites. Technology points are held in separate color pools, so an excess in one color does not make up for a shortfall in another.
Use the node as your shopping list. If it asks for a particular color, points in another pool will not cover that requirement. If it needs several colors, note each amount and compare them with your current totals. The most useful next activity is usually the one that addresses an actual shortfall, not simply the activity you have done most often or the color that is easiest to produce.

A technology may be unavailable because a prerequisite node or progression condition is missing. Checking that first can save time: points earned before you can use them are not wasted by default, but grinding them will not remove a separate gate.
2. Decompose an expendable item if you need Science
At the Study Table in the tower, choose decompose and select an item you are willing to consume. Prefer something you can spare rather than a scarce ingredient, a planned alchemy component, or an item you need for progression. The action is a way to create Science, not a study of the item for technology points.
Before confirming, distinguish the item’s immediate Science value from its other uses. If it is an ingredient you intended to study for runes, use in alchemy, or keep for a progression task, decomposing it may solve the Science shortage but create another one. The table’s displayed return can help compare eligible choices, but there is no substantiated universally best item to decompose; your inventory and plans determine what counts as expendable.
3. Study a new item that is useful to your plans
Choose study and select an eligible item that has not already been studied. When possible, prioritize new ingredients you expect to use in alchemy: the study can award technology points and reveal that item’s alchemy runes. This makes a useful ingredient a better study candidate than an arbitrary item you may need elsewhere.

The reported reward range—10 to 150 points per study—makes checking the individual item worthwhile. If you are close to a technology cost, compare the displayed reward with the size of the gap. If you are far short, one study may help but may not finish the job; plan for additional new subjects or ordinary work in the required color. The range is a guide-reported figure for PC update 1.007, not a promise that every platform or later patch will show identical values.
Studying new ingredients can also be useful even when the point award is modest, because the table reveals alchemy runes as part of the action. Conversely, do not study something merely because it is available if you need to preserve it or cannot afford the listed Science and Faith costs. Use the item’s displayed reward and costs to make the trade-off in your current save.
Keep Science coming when study subjects are scarce
A Science Kit is one reported way to replenish Science. Keeper’s Field Guide II gives this recipe for PC update 1.007: 1 Alchemy Flask, 5 Clean Paper, and 1 Ink. The guide reports that decomposing one Science Kit yields 30 Science.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Before crafting one, check whether those components are needed for another task and verify the current recipe and yield in your own game. Recipes and costs may differ after an update or between platform builds; the cited figures are guide-reported, not an official developer guarantee.
If you do not want to spend those materials, decompose another expendable item that the Study Table accepts. The available alternatives and their value depend on what you have; the available evidence does not establish a universal best item to decompose. Compare the displayed return with the value of keeping the item.
A practical way to avoid running out mid-plan is to decide on the study subject first, then check how much Science and Faith the table says it needs. Only after that should you choose what to decompose or whether to make a Science Kit. This reverses the common but inefficient guesswork of consuming items for Science and then discovering you still do not have a suitable subject or enough of the required resources.
If you have several new items available, you can also prioritize them by both usefulness and point reward. A planned ingredient that offers a good displayed reward can serve two purposes; an item with a smaller award may still be worthwhile if you want its runes. Neither benefit makes repeat studies a dependable farm: the reported technology-point payment is once per item.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTarget ordinary work to the color you need
The three technology-point colors represent separate pools. A current guide describes them broadly as red for hands and materials, green for nature, and blue for spiritual knowledge. Its suggested activities are strategies rather than official developer instructions, so use the point feedback in your game to confirm what a particular action produces.

| Color | Guide’s broad association | Examples of activity suggested by the guide | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red | Hands and materials | Breaking rocks | When the next technology requires red points and material work also advances your current tasks. |
| Green | Nature | Gathering plants or harvesting | When green is the shortfall and gathering or harvesting is useful to your plans. |
| Blue | Spiritual knowledge | Collecting corpse items and studying new items | When blue is needed; use the Study Table for eligible new items and let the tree’s displayed costs guide your target. |
The practical choice is not “which color is best?” but “which color blocks the next technology I actually want?” Check the costs first, then spend the next in-game day on work associated with that color. If the node needs more than one color, plan around the scarcest requirement rather than continuing to produce points in a pool that is already sufficient.
For example, if the next node needs green and red but you already have enough red, continuing to break rocks because it is familiar will not close the green gap. The guide’s examples suggest gathering plants or harvesting for green, and breaking rocks for red; confirm the point result in your game as you work. This approach makes ordinary tasks serve two purposes when possible: generate the needed color and make progress on work you already planned.
For blue, the guide suggests collecting corpse items and studying new items. These are recommendations, not guaranteed point values for each action. The Study Table route has a clearer resource chain—Science plus an eligible item, sometimes Faith, for a one-time award—while ordinary work can be chosen to target a specific color. If a given activity does not produce the color you need in your build, use the game’s feedback and adjust rather than assuming the broad association guarantees a result.
Study is a distinct route from ordinary work: the table consumes Science (and sometimes Faith) and awards points for an eligible item. It is therefore useful when you have new study subjects and enough Science, while ordinary activities let you direct effort toward a particular color. Keeper’s Field Guide II characterizes study as an efficient mid-game source, but the evidence does not establish a single fastest strategy for every stage, inventory, or build.
Choose between studying and ordinary work
There is no universally fastest method supported for every save. The better route depends on the color you need, the materials and Science you have, whether you have unstudied items, and whether the desired technology is actually available to unlock.
- Study when you have Science, can spare the displayed Faith cost if one applies, and have a new eligible item. It can provide a one-time reward and reveal runes, especially useful when the item fits planned alchemy.
- Do ordinary work when you need to focus on a particular color, have useful tasks that correspond to the guide’s color associations, or lack an item worth studying.
- Pause point generation when a prerequisite, reputation gate, story condition, or building condition blocks the node. Resolve the gate rather than treating the point total as the only requirement.
These options can complement one another. You do not have to choose one permanent strategy: study a useful new item when you can, then direct ordinary work toward whatever color remains short. The comparison is about what your current bottleneck is, not a universal ranking of activities.
Check gates before farming more points
If you have enough points for a technology but cannot unlock it, more grinding may not help. The technology tree can also require prerequisite nodes, reputation gates, or story and building conditions. Inspect the target node and the path leading to it before choosing another activity.
- Confirm the node’s point colors and costs.
- Check whether its prerequisite technologies are unlocked.
- Look for reputation or progression conditions attached to the node.
- If the displayed point costs are already met, pursue the missing prerequisite or condition rather than generating more points.
The Graveyard Keeper Reference community technology planner lists 236 technologies across six research branches. Treat that as orientation rather than an official, fixed total: it is a community database figure and could change with updates. The tree’s actual requirements in your game are the relevant guide for what to do next.

The planner figure also gives a sense of scale: there are many nodes to work through, so it helps to plan one target at a time instead of trying to fill every color evenly. The community count is not a requirement to memorize, nor does it mean that every branch or node is available at once. Use it as broad context only; your in-game tree, prerequisites, and current progression determine the next useful unlock.
Mind the per-color cap
The same guide reports a cap of 999 points per color. If you are close to that reported limit, spend points from the relevant pool before doing a large amount of point-generating work. Otherwise, additional points may have no practical value once the pool reaches its cap. Because this cap is community-guide information rather than official mechanics documentation, check your in-game total and available unlocks rather than relying on the figure alone.
The cap is another reason to target your next need instead of generating points without a plan. If one pool is near its reported maximum and a useful node can consume it, consider unlocking that node before continuing activities that could add more of the same color. Do not let a cap figure distract you from checking whether the node’s other colors and progression gates are also satisfied.
Check your version if the Study Table misbehaves
Patch state matters, especially if an item is consumed without the expected result or the Study Table stops responding. Steam lists Graveyard Keeper 2 as released on September 22, 2026. The official Steam announcement for update 1.005 records a fix for the Study Table locking up after an item was inserted for Science, preventing research from starting. Keeper’s Field Guide II, updated October 1 for PC update 1.007, reports later fixes for missing Science rewards and some items that could not be studied.
If the table fails, first check which version your platform is running and whether an update is available. The 1.007 guide describes the PC build; console patches may arrive later than Steam updates. Do not assume a console build has the same fixes or item behavior without checking its displayed version and current in-game results.
The update notes matter because a failed or interrupted table action can look like a resource mistake. If an item was inserted and the table locks up, the official Steam changelog identifies that specific issue as fixed in update 1.005. If Science is missing or an item cannot be studied, the October 1 guide reports fixes in PC update 1.007. These notes do not guarantee that every current platform has the same fix, so verify your version before repeating the action with another valuable item.
Steam lists the release date as September 22, 2026, but release timing alone does not tell you which patch is installed. Check the version number for your platform and rely on the current in-game requirements and results. Console versions may receive patches later than Steam, so a difference between PC instructions and a console save can be a version issue rather than a different strategy.

A quick route from zero Science to a technology unlock
- Pick a target: identify the technology and note its point colors, costs, and prerequisites.
- Resolve non-point gates: pursue any prerequisite, reputation, story, or building condition that blocks the node.
- Supply Science: at the tower Study Table, decompose an expendable item. If using a Science Kit, verify its recipe and displayed yield before spending the ingredients.
- Choose a new study subject: favor an eligible item useful for planned alchemy, and check its displayed cost and point reward.
- Study it: use the Study Table’s study action, not decompose, to spend Science and receive the one-time technology-point reward.
- Fill any remaining color shortfall: use ordinary work associated with the color you still need, checking the game’s feedback as you go.
- Unlock the node: return to the tree once its point costs and progression conditions are met.
This route avoids the most common waste: decomposing an item while expecting points, repeatedly studying an item for a repeat award, or generating a color that does not count toward the desired technology.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Before committing anything scarce, make one final check: is the item expendable, is the chosen study subject new, do you have the displayed Science and Faith, and does the point reward help with the target color? If any answer is no, adjust the plan first. This small check keeps the conversion loop deliberate and helps separate a genuine shortage of points from a missing prerequisite or a patch-related table problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get technology points in Graveyard Keeper 2?
Study eligible items at the tower’s Study Table. If you need Science, use the table’s decompose action on an expendable item or, if its current recipe and yield suit your plans, a Science Kit. The study action spends Science and sometimes Faith and gives a one-time point reward for that item.
Does decomposing an item give technology points?
No. Decompose consumes the item and gives Science. Study uses Science (and sometimes Faith) to award technology points and reveal the studied item’s alchemy runes.
Recommended Free Tools
How much Science does a Science Kit give?
Keeper’s Field Guide II reports 30 Science for decomposing a Science Kit on PC update 1.007. Its reported recipe is 1 Alchemy Flask, 5 Clean Paper, and 1 Ink. Check the current in-game recipe and yield before crafting, since the figures may differ by patch or platform.
Can I study the same item again to farm points?
The October 1, 2026 Keeper’s Field Guide II reports that study rewards are paid once per item. Choose another new eligible item rather than expecting the original reward again.
Why can’t I unlock a technology even though I have enough points?
The node may also require prerequisite technologies, reputation, or a story or building condition. Check the node and its path in the technology tree; more points will not satisfy a separate progression gate.
What should I do if the Study Table consumes an item but does not work?
Check your game version and available updates before risking another item. Steam’s update 1.005 announcement records a fix for a Study Table lockup after item insertion, and the October 1 guide reports later PC update 1.007 fixes for missing Science rewards and some items that could not be studied. Console patches may arrive later than Steam.
Are red, green, and blue technology points interchangeable?
No. They are separate pools. Check the target node’s color costs, then focus on the color you are short of. A current guide broadly associates red with hands and materials, green with nature, and blue with spiritual knowledge, but use your game’s point feedback to confirm an activity’s result.
The Bottom Line
For a reliable point plan, check your target node first, turn expendable items into Science at the tower Study Table, and spend that Science on new eligible items—preferably ingredients useful for alchemy. Then use ordinary work to address any remaining color shortfall. Remember that each item’s reported study reward is one-time, colors are separate, and prerequisites or progression conditions can block an unlock even when your point total is sufficient.
