To get more weapon upgrade materials in Where Winds Meet, open the upgrade screen for the system you want to improve, select the missing material, and check its How to Obtain list. Follow a source shown there rather than farming by a similar-sounding item name: Martial Arts upgrades, gear-slot enhancement, and weapon tuning use different resources.
Start with the upgrade system you mean
“Weapon upgrade” can refer to several separate systems. For a Martial Arts style, open Abilities → Martial Arts, choose the style, then select Upgrade or Break Through. For gear-slot enhancement, open Develop → Gear → Enhance. Weapon tuning is another system with its own requirements. The Combat Upgrades guide explains these distinctions, while the upgrade screen in your game is the place to identify the exact item you need (Combat Upgrades; Upgrade Materials).

Use the missing material’s source list
- Select the red or missing material icon. Read its full name, tier, required quantity, and How to Obtain entries. Similar item names do not mean the materials are interchangeable.
- Check your existing chests. Open Bag → Item → Develop and look for an unopened selection chest that contains the needed item.
- Compare the listed options. A shop may be convenient if you have the required currency and the item is in stock. For an activity, check its reward preview and Energy cost before repeating it.
- Follow the listed map or enemy entry. If the source panel names enemy drops, use its map entry and farm that group. If the item is for gear enhancement, check its own merchant or gathering sources instead.
This item-by-item approach is recommended in the Upgrade Materials guide because the right source depends on the exact upgrade and material.
Martial Arts materials and example enemy routes
The farming guide updated October 6, 2026 groups the Martial Arts styles and materials this way. Treat the locations as route suggestions, not guaranteed yields, and confirm the exact material in your in-game source list before setting out (Weapon Skills Upgrade Materials in Where Winds Meet).

The same guide suggests additional route locations: Bodhi Sea and Front Mountain for the Ointments; Moonveil Mountain and Withershade Mound for the Locks and Weights; and Halo Peak and Mercyheart Monastery for the Liquor and Tonic. These are suggested routes rather than promises of a particular number of drops per run. Your style’s material screen remains the best check for the current patch and exact requirement.
Check shops and activities before repeating fights
Season Shop
Open Main Menu → Season → Shop and look for the material or a selection chest listed for it. The Upgrade Materials guide says products marked Weekly restock weekly; check the live inventory, currency cost, and available stock before planning around a purchase.
Campaign Challenge
Go to Wandering Paths → Challenges → Campaign Challenge, then inspect an unlocked boss’s reward boxes and Energy cost. The guide notes that a reward multiplier may be offered; check the activity screen to see whether it applies to the reward you want.
Season Catch-up Shop
The guide describes a Custom Martial Note Chest available for Trace Jade. If it is currently offered, check its cost and contents, then open the chest at Bag → Item → Develop and choose the needed material.

Battle Pass shop
The Zilliongamer guide reports that two upgrade or breakthrough chests can be bought weekly from the Battle Pass shop and describes them as selection chests. Shop contents and limits can change, so verify the current inventory, price, contents, and purchase limit in-game before relying on that count.

If the missing item appears under Develop → Gear → Enhance, do not assume Martial Arts enemy routes will supply it. Select the missing enhancement material and follow its listed source. The Upgrade Materials guide recommends using Wind Sense to help locate resources in an indicated gathering area and checking a merchant’s current price and stock.
Spend materials around the style and gear you use
- Choose the combat style you intend to play before investing scarce materials in several styles at once.
- Check the next upgrade’s material cost so you can gather toward a specific goal instead of farming every progression system.
- Look for relevant selection chests before spending Energy on repeated fights.
- Compare a listed source’s currency and stock, Energy cost, access requirements, and expected time. Which option is best depends on the item you need and what is available to your character; the guides do not establish one fastest method for every player.
The Combat Upgrades guide also recommends focusing resources on the styles and gear you actually use.
