Does standard Incense work if you stand still?
Niantic describes standard Incense as an item that lures Pokémon to your location. It typically lasts 60 minutes, though special events may extend its duration. Niantic’s description does not say that you must move to use standard Incense, but it also does not guarantee stationary spawns or give a spawn interval or rate. Does Daily Adventure Incense work without walking?
No movement, no stated effect: Niantic says Daily Adventure Incense attracts unexpected wild Pokémon for 15 minutes “as long as you are moving in the real world.” That makes movement part of the official description, unlike the description of standard Incense. Niantic’s Incense help page
Does Adventure Sync spawn Pokémon?
No. Adventure Sync records kilometers traveled while Pokémon GO is closed and supports Buddy Candy, Egg hatching, weekly activity reports, and milestone rewards. Niantic does not describe it as a way to generate wild encounters. It requires location permission and a connection to Apple Health or Google Fit; the phone also needs the relevant sensors, and manually entered fitness data does not count. What should you do if you cannot move?
- Use standard Incense if you have it and want to attract Pokémon to your location. Treat it as an option, not a guarantee of stationary spawns.
- Do not expect Daily Adventure Incense to work as described while standing still; its official effect is conditioned on real-world movement.
- Use Adventure Sync for distance-based progress such as Egg hatching and Buddy Candy, not for wild spawns.
- Check Pokémon GO’s event information for temporary Incense changes rather than assuming the usual duration applies.
Why you should not spoof your location
Niantic’s Player Guidelines explicitly list using tools or techniques to alter or falsify your location as spoofing. Its policies say violations can lead to a warning, degraded gameplay, suspension, or permanent account termination; some misconduct may result in immediate termination. Incense is an in-game item. No physical accessory is established as a way to change Pokémon GO’s spawn mechanics.
