To troubleshoot a Last Exception in The Sims 4, back up your saves, temporarily remove mods and custom content, delete localthumbcache.package, then relaunch and test the game. If the alert stops, find the responsible content by adding it back in small batches. If it continues in a clean test, check EA’s current issue reports for the gameplay symptom. The alert records an error; it does not identify one universal cause.
What a Last Exception means
MC Command Center’s official site says Last Exception alerts are “almost always” caused by outdated mods or custom content, or by a core EA error. That is MCCC’s guidance, not an EA diagnosis; the alert itself does not tell you which cause applies to your game. MC Command Center

Game-side problems can also be involved. For example, EA’s September 16, 2025 Laundry List described a reported case in which a Last Exception appeared and Sims reset when exiting a changing table. That example establishes that a Last Exception can accompany a specific game issue; it does not show that the issue is still present or that it explains your alert. EA’s September 2025 Laundry List

- Back up your saves. Open
Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4and copy theSavesfolder somewhere separate from the game folder. Keep that copy untouched while troubleshooting. A test is useful only if you can check whether the same symptom returns.
If the alert stops without mods and CC
The clean test points toward third-party content, but it does not name the file. Close the game, restore some content, clear localthumbcache.package again, and retest. Repeat with smaller batches until you narrow down the set; then test individual files or related groups to confirm what triggers the problem. Before restoring a suspected mod, check its creator’s compatibility notes and update instructions for your installed game patch. Check dependencies, remove obsolete or duplicate versions, and download updates only from the creator’s trusted location. Avoid layering a new version over old files.
Take extra care with content that affects saves. EA forum guidance warns that removing a custom career can cause Last Exceptions if a Sim previously used that career. If the alert continues in a clean test
A persistent alert makes a mod-only cause less likely, but does not prove the base game is responsible. Search EA’s current issue reports for the specific action or gameplay symptom you observed, and consult EA support or the relevant creator if a particular mod remains suspect. Patch compatibility and reported issues can change, so use current reports rather than assuming an older fix still applies.

A diagnostic utility can help narrow your search, but treat its output as a clue, not a verdict. EA forum guidance notes that some mod conflict detectors flag shared game-code references; that does not prove the files cause a visible gameplay problem.
