Solar Fusion Energy comes from defeating Dusk Mane Necrozma in a Fusion Raid, while Lunar Fusion Energy comes from defeating Dawn Wings Necrozma in a Fusion Raid. You may also receive either type from event-specific Special Research when Niantic offers it.
Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy are separate resources: Solar Energy is used with Solgaleo, and Lunar Energy is used with Lunala.

What Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy is used for

The energy types cannot be substituted for one another. Having 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy will not let you fuse Necrozma with Solgaleo, and 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy will not satisfy the Lunala fusion requirement. See Niantic’s Fusion help guide for the official requirements.

Defeat Dusk Mane Necrozma in a Fusion Raid. Solar Fusion Energy is included among the raid rewards. The post-raid encounter is with the base Pokémon, Necrozma, not a catchable Dusk Mane Necrozma.

How to get Lunar Fusion Energy
Defeat Dawn Wings Necrozma in a Fusion Raid. The raid rewards provide Lunar Fusion Energy, and the encounter afterward is with base Necrozma rather than the fused Dawn Wings form.
Regular Necrozma raids do not replace these Fusion Raids, and ordinary Solgaleo or Lunala raids are not the documented sources of Solar or Lunar Fusion Energy.
When Fusion Energy is available
Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy are event-based resources rather than permanent rewards from ordinary gameplay. The documented sources are matching Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Fusion Raids and Special Research, including event-specific or ticketed research when Niantic adds it.

The latest official listing covered by the available information featured Dawn Wings Necrozma on July 7, 2026, and Dusk Mane Necrozma on July 8, 2026, during the Road of Legends event. A separate Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Sunday compensation raid update for July 26 did not list either fused Necrozma form. Raid rotations change, so check the current in-game raid schedule and the official Pokémon GO news page for the next opportunity.
How much Energy you need
Each fusion costs exactly 1,000 of the matching Fusion Energy. The cost does not gradually decrease like some Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion costs can.
- Dusk Mane: 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy and 30 Cosmog Candy.
- Dawn Wings: 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy and 30 Cosmog Candy.
The official requirements do not specify individual IV requirements for the Solgaleo or Lunala partner. The game asks you to choose an eligible partner from your Pokémon inventory.

How to check your Fusion Energy
- From the Map View, tap Main Menu.
- Tap Pokémon.
- Select a Necrozma.
- On its summary page, find the Fusion Energy display and the Fuse button.
If the Necrozma is eligible, its summary page shows the available Fusion options and your relevant energy total. Niantic’s guide to viewing a Pokémon summary explains where summary-page information appears.

- Open the Map View.
- Tap Main Menu, then Pokémon.
- Select the Necrozma you want to use as the fusion base.
- Tap Fuse beside Solgaleo for Dusk Mane or beside Lunala for Dawn Wings.
- Choose the individual Solgaleo or Lunala you want to use.
- Tap Yes to confirm.
You must have the required matching energy, Necrozma Candy and Cosmog Candy before the fusion can proceed.
What happens after fusion
- The fused form remains active until you separate it.
- Separate replaces Fuse on the fused Pokémon’s summary page.
- Separating costs no Fusion Energy and no Candy.
- You can fuse multiple Pokémon at once if you have enough eligible Pokémon and resources.
- A fused Pokémon cannot be traded, transferred to Professor Willow or sent to Pokémon HOME while fused.
Separating is free, but Niantic does not state that the original Energy or Candy is refunded. Treat the resources as spent; a later refusion should be expected to require the normal cost again.

Important edge cases
The Fuse button is missing
The Necrozma may not be eligible, or you may lack the required resources. Only eligible Pokémon show the relevant Fusion option and Energy information.
You have the wrong Energy type
Solgaleo requires Solar Fusion Energy. Lunala requires Lunar Fusion Energy. The other type cannot be used, even if you have enough of it.

A Pokémon currently serving as your Buddy cannot be used as the fusion partner. Change your Buddy, then try again. The Necrozma serving as the fusion base may be your Buddy when you start the fusion.

You want both fused forms
Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings are separate fusions. To keep both forms simultaneously, plan for two Necrozma, two eligible partners, 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 60 Necrozma Candy and 60 Cosmog Candy. Reusing one Necrozma means separating it before another fusion, and the resources spent on the first fusion are not stated to be refunded.
The result is not shiny
The fused result is shiny only when the Necrozma used as the fusion base is shiny. A shiny Solgaleo or shiny Lunala does not make a non-shiny Necrozma fusion shiny.
You power up the fused Pokémon
Powering up a fused Pokémon changes the fused form’s CP. According to Niantic, that change applies to the base Pokémon only after the Pokémon is separated.

- For Dusk Mane, find a Dusk Mane Necrozma Fusion Raid and collect Solar Fusion Energy.
- For Dawn Wings, find a Dawn Wings Necrozma Fusion Raid and collect Lunar Fusion Energy.
- Save 1,000 matching Energy for the fusion you want.
- Save 30 Necrozma Candy and 30 Cosmog Candy per fusion.
- Have an eligible Necrozma and the correct Solgaleo or Lunala partner.
- Make sure the intended partner is not your Buddy.
Fusion Energy availability depends on Niantic’s event schedule, so the official raid listings and current in-game events are the most reliable way to find the next source.
