There is no single best new mount in World of Warcraft: The War Within: the right pick depends on whether you want a broad achievement, a quest reward, a vendor purchase, or a competitive-season trophy. Some Season 3 rewards are now historical, and Blizzard confirmed that the Royal Voidwing became unobtainable when Midnight launched. Use the routes below as a shortlist, then verify current availability in-game.

Which War Within mount is best for you?

Choose by the activity you actually enjoy, not by a universal ranking. The routes below cover exploration, quests, event vendors, Delves, Mythic+, PvP, and raid rewards. The cited guides establish acquisition routes and requirements for some mounts, but do not provide reliable comparisons of grind time, drop odds, or solo difficulty.

What you want Mount to look at Route and qualification
A mount tied to broad expansion progress Geargrinder Mk. 11 Listed as the reward for Worldsoul-Searching, the expansion-wide meta-achievement. The guide does not quantify the effort required.
A questline reward K’arroc Swiftwing Listed as a reward from “Off to Tazavesh, Again,” part of the Patch 11.2.7 Midnight Prologue storyline.
A mount bought with event currency Crimson Lupine, Skypaw Glimmerfur, Snowpaw Glimmerfur Prowler, and other listed variants Collector Ta’steld is listed as the vendor during Shadowlands Timewalking; the guide gives a price of 5,000 Timewarped Badges per mount. Access depends on the event being active.
A Delves reward Delver’s Mana-Skimmer Listed as the reward at the end of the Season 3 Delves introductory quest “Repossessed!” Season 3 is no longer the current season.
A competitive Mythic+ reward Azure Void Flyer or Scarlet Void Flyer Azure Void Flyer was the Season 3 Keystone Master reward at 2,000 Mythic+ rating; Scarlet Void Flyer was listed for Keystone Legend at 3,000 rating. Both are historical Season 3 rewards.
A rated PvP trophy Astral Gladiator’s Fel Bat or Vicious Void Creeper The Fel Bat required 50 3v3 wins at Elite rank during Season 3. The Vicious Void Creeper was a rated-season reward; post-season Vicious Saddle rules may apply.

Mounts for exploration and questing

Geargrinder Mk. 11: broad achievement progress

The Patch 11.2.7 mount guide lists Geargrinder Mk. 11 as the reward for Worldsoul-Searching, described as The War Within’s expansion-wide meta-achievement. It suits players who want a mount connected to progress across the expansion rather than a single activity. The guide does not state how long the achievement takes or how difficult it is, so treat it as a completion goal, not a quick unlock. See Wowhead’s Patch 11.2.7 mount guide.

K’arroc Swiftwing: a specific prologue quest

K’arroc Swiftwing is listed as a reward for “Off to Tazavesh, Again,” in the Patch 11.2.7 Midnight Prologue storyline. This gives you a concrete questline to pursue if you prefer narrative content to a rating threshold. The cited guide does not establish the quest’s current prerequisites or completion time, so check the in-game quest journal and current quest availability before planning around it. The Patch 11.2.7 mount guide lists the reward.

Mounts from event vendors and Delves

Timewalking mounts: check the event first

Wowhead’s Patch 11.2.7 guide lists Crimson Lupine, Skypaw Glimmerfur, Snowpaw Glimmerfur Prowler, and several bronze Covenant mount variants from Collector Ta’steld during Shadowlands Timewalking. The listed cost is 5,000 Timewarped Badges per mount. Because this is event-dependent inventory, do not assume the vendor is available at all times: check the active in-game Timewalking event and vendor stock before saving currency specifically for one of these mounts. Check the guide’s listed Timewalking options.

Delver’s Mana-Skimmer: a Season 3 Delves route

The Season 3 Delves introductory quest “Repossessed!” is listed as the route to Delver’s Mana-Skimmer. Blizzard separately said that Delver’s Journey unlocks customizations for the mount; those customizations are progression rewards, distinct from the mount acquisition itself. Both details are tied to Season 3, which is no longer current, so verify the quest and reward status in-game before treating this as an active route. Wowhead’s Season 3 guide and Blizzard’s Season 3 overview provide the historical details.

Competitive mounts: Season 3 rewards, not current-season targets

Mythic+: Azure and Scarlet Void Flyers

Blizzard listed Azure Void Flyer as the Season 3 Keystone Master reward for reaching at least 2,000 Mythic+ rating. Wowhead’s Patch 11.2 guide lists Scarlet Void Flyer for Keystone Legend at 3,000 rating. These are useful examples of the expansion’s Mythic+ prestige rewards, but the requirements refer to Season 3, not the current season. Confirm whether either reward remains directly earnable before pursuing it. Blizzard’s Season 3 overview and Wowhead’s Patch 11.2 guide describe the rewards.

PvP: a high-rank trophy and a seasonal mount

Blizzard’s Season 3 overview listed Astral Gladiator’s Fel Bat for winning 50 3v3 matches at Elite rank during that season. It also listed Vicious Void Creeper as a rated PvP season reward and noted that Vicious mounts can be obtained after a season through a Vicious Saddle. Wowhead’s Patch 11.2 guide gives a 2,400-point Season Reward bar threshold for the Vicious Void Creeper, with points varying by rated PvP format. Because these are season-specific requirements and post-season rules may differ, check current in-game availability and vendor requirements rather than assuming the historical path still applies. Blizzard’s Season 3 overview and Wowhead’s Patch 11.2 guide list the details.

Raid rewards and what changed with Midnight

Blizzard’s February 9, 2026 pre-launch notice is important for anyone chasing a raid mount. It said the Royal Voidwing from Heroic Dimensius “will no longer be obtainable” after the transition to Midnight. The same notice said the Unbound Star-Eater from Mythic Manaforge Omega “will have its drop rate significantly reduced.” That is a statement about the transition, not a measured October 2026 drop rate. Do not plan a Royal Voidwing farm as though the mount were still available through that raid; for Unbound Star-Eater, the notice establishes a reduction, not a current numerical chance. Read Blizzard’s February 9, 2026 transition notice.

Other catalogued routes include a mount associated with unlocking the Earthen allied race and rare drops from Queen Ansurek. Wowhead’s broad mount catalog marked some rewards unavailable in its January 2, 2026 update, but that dated status is not a complete live availability audit. Check the current in-game achievement, raid journal, or mount source before committing to a route. Browse the mount catalog.

How to choose a route without chasing an unavailable reward

  1. Pick the activity first. For broad expansion completion, investigate Worldsoul-Searching; for a storyline, check “Off to Tazavesh, Again”; for event currency, wait for Shadowlands Timewalking; for competitive play, distinguish historical Season 3 rewards from current-season rewards.
  2. Confirm the exact reward and requirement. Use the achievement interface, quest journal, vendor inventory, or current season details in-game. A dated guide can identify a route without proving it is still open.
  3. Check time sensitivity before investing. Event vendors rotate, seasons end, and Blizzard’s Midnight transition changed the availability of at least one raid reward.
  4. Choose by appeal as well as prestige. The cited sources do not establish comparative farming odds, soloability, or completion time. Avoid treating a high rating, a rare drop, or a broad meta-achievement as inherently better for every player.
