The fastest way to get a camera in ARC Raiders is to accept Sizing Things Up from Celeste and use the Basic Camera supplied for that quest. You can also craft a Basic Camera at a level-one Workbench with eight Plastic Parts and one Wire, buy one from Shani, or find one while scavenging. Once it is in your backpack, assign it to a Quick Use slot, select it from the gadget wheel, aim at the named subject and take the picture.
What the camera does in ARC Raiders
The Basic Camera is an in-game Quick Use gadget used for photographs and selfies. It is listed as an Uncommon item, and its item reference says it was added with the Frozen Trail 2.0 update. For objectives, the camera is not a decorative collectible or a menu-only tool: the objective is completed by equipping it and taking a valid photograph of the required subject.

That distinction matters. Walking to a landmark, looking at it, or interacting with a nearby object does not substitute for the photo step. The quest has to register a picture taken with the Camera while the named subject is in frame. The exact target and location vary by objective, so use the objective wording as your framing guide rather than assuming any picture in the area will count.

You have four reported acquisition routes. The best one depends on whether you already have the quest, the crafting materials and the Coins to spend.

Use the camera supplied by Sizing Things Up
If your immediate goal is the Emperor photograph, accepting Sizing Things Up is the most direct option. The quest record says it grants a Basic Camera, and the walkthrough identifies Celeste as the character who gives it to you. This avoids spending Plastic Parts, Wire or Coins on an item the quest already provides.
Celeste’s recorded acceptance dialogue is: “Do some reconnaissance around that fallen Emperor, see that you stay safe.” The dialogue is flavor and quest context; the actionable requirement is the photo objective shown in the quest.
Craft the camera at a level-one Workbench
Crafting does not require a higher-level Workbench according to the item reference. Gather eight Plastic Parts and one Wire, open a level-one Workbench, select the Basic Camera recipe and confirm the craft. If the recipe is unavailable, first check that you are using the Workbench rather than another crafting station and that both material counts are in your available inventory.

Buy one from Shani
Shani is listed as a seller of the Basic Camera. A current guide reports a price of 1,920 Coins. That is an in-game value, not a cash price, and it is explicitly subject to change with vendor stock and balancing. Open Shani’s trade screen and use the price displayed there as the authoritative amount for your version of the game.

If the camera is not visible, check whether the shop’s stock has changed or whether you are looking at the correct category. Do not assume a missing listing means the item has been removed permanently; the available evidence does not establish a fixed stock rotation.
Find one by scavenging
The item reference also lists scavenging. This confirms that a Basic Camera can be found during normal looting, but it does not identify a guaranteed container, map coordinate, probability or route. Search as you normally would while completing an expedition, and treat any camera found this way as a bonus rather than planning around an unverified spawn.
How to equip and use the Camera
The controls below are the reported PC controls. Your bindings, platform and accessibility settings may differ, so follow the prompts shown by your game if they do not match.
- Keep the Camera in your backpack. A camera sitting in storage that is not available to your character cannot be selected during the objective.
- Assign it to a Quick Use slot. Open your inventory, locate the Basic Camera and place it in one of the available Quick Use positions.
- Open the gadget wheel. On the reported PC layout, press Q. If you changed your keybinds, use the key shown in your controls menu.
- Select the Camera. Highlight the camera on the wheel and release or confirm the selection as your prompts indicate. Your character should now be holding the gadget rather than a weapon or another utility.
- Aim at the objective subject. On PC guides, the right mouse button is used to aim. Move until the named object or character is clearly framed, paying attention to the specific body part or portion named by the quest.
- Take the photograph. On the reported PC layout, press the left mouse button. Wait for the objective indicator or quest update before leaving the area.
If the quest does not advance, take another picture with the Camera visibly selected and move closer or reframe the exact subject. A generic landscape shot, a photograph of the wrong part of a landmark, or an interaction performed without taking a picture does not satisfy a photo objective.
Sizing Things Up: the Emperor’s leg photo
Sizing Things Up is the clearest example of how the camera objective works. The first photo target is the lower part of the Emperor’s leg near the bridge east of Old Town.

Reach the correct side of the bridge
- Travel to the area directly east of Old Town.
- Find the bridge running parallel to the Emperor’s southern front leg. The walkthrough places the photo spot on this bridge, not at an arbitrary viewpoint around the wreck.
- Position yourself so the Emperor’s leg is visible from the bridge and you can frame its lower portion.
Frame the lower leg, not just the Emperor
The quest wording is specific: photograph the Emperor’s leg. The walkthrough narrows that further to the lower part of the leg. Center that lower section in the view, keep the Camera selected and take the photo. Merely photographing the full Emperor, the bridge, Old Town or the surrounding scenery can fail to match the target recognition used by the objective.

Confirm the update before moving on
Remain in the area long enough to see the quest step update. If nothing changes, reselect the Camera from the gadget wheel, move along the bridge to improve the angle and photograph the lower leg again. The requirement is the camera photo itself; reaching the bridge alone is not completion.
Know what remains in the quest
The photograph is only one part of Sizing Things Up. The quest page lists additional work involving analysis near Railroad Junction, reaching the Emperor’s base, searching the Buried Harvester Payload and delivering an ARC Conductive Coupler to Celeste. The camera completes the photo portion; it does not complete those later objectives automatically.
The walkthrough supplies additional location detail for the follow-up steps, but the camera instructions remain the same: use the named objective to identify what must be photographed, analyzed, searched or delivered. Do not abandon the quest after the picture if its tracker still lists another task.
Which acquisition route should you choose?
Choose the quest supply when you are doing Sizing Things Up
This is the resource-efficient choice for the Emperor objective. Celeste’s quest supply removes the need to spend eight Plastic Parts, one Wire or 1,920 Coins. It also gives you the item in the context where the camera is immediately needed.

Craft when you need a camera before the quest supply
Crafting is predictable if your inventory already contains the recipe materials. It is also the clearest fallback when you cannot access the quest camera yet. Confirm the Workbench is level one and count the materials before starting so you do not make an unnecessary trip.
Buy when time is more valuable than materials
Buying is convenient when Shani has the camera and your Coin balance covers the live price. Because the reported 1,920-Coins figure can change, make the decision from the trade screen rather than from an old guide.
Scavenge when you are already running expeditions
Scavenging costs no listed materials or Coins, but it is the least predictable route because no guaranteed spawn or drop rate is established. Use it opportunistically, not as the only plan for a time-sensitive objective.

The Camera is not on the gadget wheel
- Check that the Basic Camera is in your backpack rather than unavailable storage.
- Open the inventory and assign it to a Quick Use slot; owning it is not enough if it has not been assigned.
- Open the wheel with your current gadget-wheel binding. PC guides report Q, but custom bindings and other platforms may use a different input.
The picture does not count
- Confirm that the Camera, rather than another gadget, is selected.
- Read the objective again and frame the named subject or body part. For Sizing Things Up, use the lower portion of the Emperor’s leg.
- Move to the specified location. For the Emperor photo, use the bridge directly east of Old Town, parallel to the southern front leg.
- Take a fresh picture after adjusting your angle, then wait for the tracker to update.
The controls do not match the guide
The Q, right-mouse-button and left-mouse-button sequence comes from PC guides, not a universal control standard. Open the game’s controls or keybinds menu and follow the displayed gadget-wheel, aim and use commands. A changed binding is not evidence that the camera is unavailable.

Use the current trade-screen price. The 1,920-Coins amount is a guide-reported value and may be altered by stock or a patch. If the item is absent, check the shop again later or use the quest, crafting or scavenging routes instead.

The quest still has objectives after the photo
That is expected for Sizing Things Up. Continue with the analysis near Railroad Junction, the route to the Emperor’s base, the Buried Harvester Payload search and the ARC Conductive Coupler delivery if those steps are still listed. The photo is not the entire quest.
What is and is not established about the Advanced Camera
The available quest and item references establish the Basic Camera as sufficient for the reported photo objective. They do not establish that an Advanced Camera is required for Sizing Things Up, nor do they provide a separate advantage needed for this task. Use the Basic Camera unless a future objective explicitly names a different item.
Keeping the instructions current
Camera controls, crafting recipes, trader prices, stock and quest targets are all update-sensitive gameplay details. The references used for these instructions were checked on October 13, 2026; no official Embark Studios patch note confirming the Camera’s introduction or every photo rule was available in the material. After a relevant patch, verify the recipe at a level-one Workbench, the listing and price at Shani, the objective text in your quest tracker and the control prompts shown in your own game.
For the version described here, the practical sequence is stable: obtain a Basic Camera, place it in a Quick Use slot, select it from the gadget wheel, aim at the exact objective subject and take the photograph. On Sizing Things Up, that means the lower part of the Emperor’s leg from the bridge east of Old Town, followed by the quest’s remaining analysis, search and delivery tasks.
