To get the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X in Destiny 2, complete the Pale Heart collectible chain: unlock and clear the six Cysts, collect nine Lost Encryption Bits from Region Chests and six more from hidden Cyst rubble piles, use the resulting 15-piece code to claim the Legendary Khvostov, collect all eight Visions of the Traveler, and earn nine Overthrow-boss Motes of Light. Once you have all 17 Motes, return to the Speaker’s Chamber in the Lost City and open the Exotic chest.
Khvostov is not a random world drop, and completing a Cyst without finding its hidden rubble pile does not award every required Encryption Bit.

Before you start
- Complete The Final Shape campaign.
- Continue the Pale Heart post-campaign progression until Micah-10 offers Alone in the Dark.
- Repeat the Alone in the Dark progression far enough to unlock all six Cyst variants.
- Have access to the Pale Heart patrol zones: The Landing, The Blooming, and The Impasse.
The Cysts are reached through the Traveler-bird markers connected to Micah-10’s lost-Ghost activities. There are three physical Cyst locations, but different encounter variants can be selected from the nearby Traveler-bird marker. Treat each newly unlocked variant as a separate search: its Lost Encryption Bit is a hidden collectible inside the activity, not an automatic completion reward.

1. Unlock all six Cysts through Alone in the Dark
After finishing the campaign and reaching Micah-10’s post-campaign questline, begin Alone in the Dark. Progressing and repeating this questline unlocks the Cyst activities associated with the Pale Heart’s lost-Ghost missions.

Do not leave a Cyst immediately after completing its combat objective. Before moving on, search its side rooms, dead ends, and debris for a small interactable pile of rubble or scrap. The Lost Encryption Bit is hidden in that pile. Clearing the encounter alone is not enough.
A practical approach is to collect each Cyst Bit as soon as its variant becomes available. If you later have 14 of 15 Bits, revisit every unlocked Cyst and inspect the debris again rather than simply repeating the final combat encounter.
2. Collect nine Lost Encryption Bits from Region Chests
The first nine Bits come from the marked Region Chests in the three main Pale Heart patrol areas:

Open the destination map for each zone and look for its Region Chest markers. These are the familiar golden chests, but their requirement is separate from Overthrow progress and ordinary patrol activities. Completing public events or Overthrow does not automatically collect the Region Chest Bits for you.
After opening all nine, your progress should include nine of the 15 required Lost Encryption Bits.
3. Collect the six Cyst Encryption Bits
The other six Bits are inside the six Cyst variants unlocked through Alone in the Dark. Enter each Cyst, advance or clear the activity as necessary, and search for its hidden rubble or scrap pile. Look for an interaction prompt in side areas and around debris rather than assuming the collectible is located at the final reward area.

The six Cysts may reuse three physical locations, so a familiar-looking room does not necessarily mean you have already collected that variant’s Bit. Use the Traveler-bird marker to switch between available Cyst variants and check each one individually.
When you have all nine Region Chest Bits and all six Cyst Bits, they form the Lost Encryption Code, a 15-piece requirement for the next chest.
4. Use the Lost Encryption Code to claim Legendary Khvostov
Travel to The Impasse and follow the route into The Divide, the Cosmodrome-wall area. The special golden chest is along the linear route associated with the opening area where the original Cosmodrome sequence introduced your first weapon.
Interact with the chest while the 15-piece Lost Encryption Code is complete. It awards the Legendary Khvostov.
This Legendary weapon is an intermediate requirement for the Exotic. Finding the chest before completing the code does not bypass the requirement, and dismantling the Legendary Khvostov is not how the Exotic is obtained.

5. Collect all eight Visions of the Traveler
Next, collect all eight Visions of the Traveler scattered throughout the Pale Heart. These collectibles are required for the final Exotic chest and contribute eight Motes of Light to the final total when returned or registered in the Speaker’s Chamber progression.

If you are preparing for the final step, verify that all eight Visions are registered rather than relying only on memory. A missing Vision can make the final chest appear incomplete even when you have already earned enough boss Motes.
6. Earn the nine Overthrow-boss Motes
Complete the required Overthrow boss progress across the Pale Heart. The nine required boss rewards provide nine Motes of Light—one for each required boss progression. This is distinct from simply defeating random enemies or completing ordinary patrol activities.
Keep track of the named boss encounters you have completed in each Pale Heart zone. If your total stops at 16 Motes, the missing reward is usually tied to one Overthrow boss that has not yet been completed or registered.

The final requirement is:
- 8 Motes from the eight Visions of the Traveler.
- 9 Motes from the required Overthrow bosses.
- 17 Motes total.
Once the collectible and boss progress is complete, the game combines the progression into the completed Mote requirement, commonly displayed as the Mote of Primordial Light or equivalent final progression item.
7. Open the Exotic chest in the Speaker’s Chamber
Return to the Speaker’s Chamber in the Lost City. The final chest should recognize the following:
- The Legendary Khvostov.
- All eight Visions of the Traveler.
- The completed 17-Mote progression.
Interact with the Exotic chest to receive Khvostov 7G-0X.

The Exotic is not created by dismantling the Legendary version. The Legendary Khvostov is an item-based prerequisite in the collection chain, so keep it available until the final chest has awarded the Exotic.
What Khvostov 7G-0X does
Khvostov 7G-0X is a Kinetic Exotic Auto Rifle with a 600 RPM rate of fire and a 41-round magazine.
- The Right Choice: every seventh bullet ricochets to nearby targets.
- Eyes Up, Guardian: collecting Orbs of Power strengthens the next several ricochet shots, increasing their damage and number of bounces.
- Additional features: the item definition lists Shoot to Loot and an available Khvostov Catalyst socket.
The Orb interaction is a weapon effect, not part of the acquisition process. If it behaves unexpectedly in a particular activity or subclass state, that does not mean the Exotic collection chain is incomplete.

You have 14 of 15 Lost Encryption Bits
- Recheck all three Region Chests in The Landing.
- Recheck all three Region Chests in The Blooming.
- Recheck all three Region Chests in The Impasse.
- Run every unlocked Cyst variant again.
- Inside each Cyst, search specifically for the hidden rubble or scrap pile and interact with it.
The most common progression mistake is completing a Cyst but never collecting its hidden pile. Do not count a Cyst as finished for Khvostov purposes until you have verified its collectible.
The golden chest in The Divide will not open
Confirm that the Lost Encryption Code is complete and that you actually claimed the Legendary Khvostov from the first chest. Then verify that all eight Visions are registered and that the nine Overthrow-boss Motes have been earned, bringing your total to 17.

You are stuck at 16 Motes
Review your Overthrow-boss completion history and repeat the specific missing boss encounter. A reported issue previously affected the Taken Servitor boss in The Blooming. Reports indicated that the encounter was re-enabled, but the Mote might not appear on the first subsequent kill. If the problem persists after repeating the boss, check Bungie’s current Known Issues information because this part of the quest can change with patches.
Eyes Up, Guardian does not gain stacks
This is separate from unlocking Khvostov. Bungie’s Year 8 Known Issues information, listed as updated April 15, 2026 in the supplied research, identifies a problem in which Khvostov 7G-0X may fail to gain Eyes Up, Guardian stacks from Orbs of Power while a Warlock is using the Song of Flame Super. That is a gameplay bug, not an acquisition requirement.

- Finish The Final Shape and unlock Micah-10’s Alone in the Dark.
- Unlock all six Cyst variants.

Do I get a Lost Encryption Bit just for completing a Cyst?
No. You must find and interact with the hidden rubble or scrap pile inside each Cyst. Completing the combat encounter by itself is not sufficient.
Can I dismantle Legendary Khvostov after claiming it?
Do not dismantle it before opening the final Exotic chest. The Legendary Khvostov is a prerequisite in the collection chain, and the Exotic is not obtained by dismantling the Legendary weapon.
