The installer may install or use supporting components such as Rockstar Games Framework, Rockstar Games Authentication Software, Chromium Embedded Framework, Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2019 Redistributables, Windows Universal CRT, and Steam Client API. These are associated launcher dependencies. They are not a list of separate downloads that every user must manually obtain before installing the launcher.

- Close Rockstar games. Exit any running Rockstar title and close other Rockstar launcher processes if Windows allows you to do so.
- Run the official installer. Open the installer downloaded from Rockstar’s official website.
- Choose a language. Select the language displayed by the setup program.
- Accept the license agreement. Review and accept the agreement to continue.
- Select an installation location. Keep the default location unless you have a specific reason to use another drive.
- Complete setup. Allow the installer to add the launcher and its required components.
- Sign in. On first launch, sign in to your Rockstar Games account or register a new account.
- Allow a library scan if offered. The launcher may ask whether it should scan the computer for previously installed Rockstar titles.
After installation, the launcher should display supported games associated with the signed-in account and may identify compatible existing installations. What happens to games you already have?

Buying a physical PC edition does not automatically guarantee that every edition uses the launcher in the same way, so check the retailer and edition details before purchasing.
Do not confuse the launcher with a game license. The launcher is the software platform; ownership or another valid entitlement is what permits access to a particular paid title.

Why is the launcher free if the games are paid?
Rockstar distributes the launcher at no charge because it is the account, installation, update, and launch client for supported Rockstar games. The free application does not remove the commercial entitlement for those games.
You may need all of the following for a specific title:
- A Rockstar Games account.

- Game activation.

Basic checks
- Restart Windows and try the launcher again.
- Confirm that the computer is running supported 64-bit Windows 10 and has internet access.
- Sign out and back in to verify that you are using the account that owns or is entitled to the game.
- Install pending Rockstar launcher updates.
- Update the graphics driver.

Clean reinstall procedure
A clean reinstall is more thorough than simply running the installer again. Use it when the launcher installation is damaged or ordinary troubleshooting has not helped.
- Close all running Rockstar titles and the launcher.
- Uninstall Rockstar Games Launcher from Windows using its installed application entry or the launcher’s default installation directory.
- Remove the remaining launcher and Social Club folders specified in Rockstar’s official clean-install instructions.
- Restart the computer.
- Download a fresh installer from Rockstar’s official website.

Will the update fix every Red Dead Redemption 2 problem?
