You will need the Hookshot and small keys to reach this part of the temple.
Reach the Forest Temple as Adult Link
The item is officially called the Fairy Bow. Nintendo’s manual identifies it as an Adult Link item, and the Forest Temple is where you find it.

Follow the route to the bow chest
- Use the Hookshot to reach the ledge and empty the well. Go through the well passage and collect the small key there. This key helps open the route through the temple. Thonky’s Forest Temple walkthrough
- Return to the main hall and take the locked west-side route. Continue to the room with the movable block. Push the block along the marked path, then use the connecting corridor to get around it. GameWith’s Forest Temple walkthrough and Zelda Dungeon’s Forest Temple walkthrough describe this section.
- Keep going through the rooms beyond the block puzzle. Follow the route down to the lowest reward room. Walkthroughs differ in how they name rooms and divide the steps, so use the west-side block puzzle and the Stalfos room as your landmarks.
- Defeat the Stalfos, then open the chest. The Fairy Bow is inside the reward chest.
What the Fairy Bow does
Nintendo’s manual describes its basic use this way: “Shoot enemies or switches with the Fairy Bow.” Fire, Ice, and Light Arrows become available as the adventure progresses, according to the manual.
