Capture a Goomba with Cappy, then approach Goombette while you are still controlling the Goomba. If she is above you, stack nearby Goombas by hopping onto them until you can reach her platform. Getting close to her as ordinary Mario makes her run away.
How to reach Goombette
- Find Goombas near the Goombette encounter.
- Throw Cappy at a Goomba to capture it. Captured Goombas can hop onto other Goombas to build a tower, as Nintendo explains in its capture guide.
- While controlling the captured Goomba, hop onto nearby Goombas to make the stack taller.
- Guide the stack to Goombette and reach her platform. Depending on the terrain, you may need to build or maneuver the stack nearby rather than directly beside her.
- Approach her as a Goomba and collect the Power Moon she gives you.
Why does the girl Goomba run away?
Goombette flees from Mario in his normal form. Capture a Goomba with Cappy and stay in control of it as you approach; a stack is needed when she is standing somewhere elevated. Gameplay guides refer to the girl Goomba as Goombette and document this approach mechanic: Goombette reference and GamesRadar’s Power Moon guide.

Sand Kingdom example
In the Sand Kingdom, Goombette is near the ruins, and her Power Moon is called “Love in the Heart of the Desert.” The route involves building a Goomba tower; Nintendo Life also notes an alternate route using a spinning flower. See Nintendo Life’s Sand Kingdom guide for the location and route details.
Does the same tower work at every Goombette?
No single route or tower height applies to every encounter. GamesRadar reports five Goombette encounters, with the elevated position making a Goomba stack necessary in the situations it describes. The kingdom’s layout determines where to gather Goombas, how to maneuver the stack, and how many you need; in the Sand Kingdom, a spinning flower offers another traversal option.
