To get the Mental Dexterity rune through its original discovery method, collect two items from Wastewander enemies in Tanaris, combine them, and use the result while standing on a summoning scroll near 58, 36. Defeat the level 43 elite that appears and loot the rune. Before farming, check a Rune Broker in case it currently offers a purchase route.
Check a Rune Broker first
Season of Discovery guides report that Rune Brokers sell runes, and Warcraft Tavern lists Mental Dexterity at 1 copper. Vendor stock can vary, so check the broker’s inventory for your character in-game rather than relying on the reported price or assuming the rune is available on every realm. Get the rune with the Tanaris discovery
- Farm the two drops. Travel to Tanaris and hunt Wastewander Shadow Mages and Wastewander Thieves east of Gadgetzan. Shadow Mages drop Coded Warlock Notes; Thieves drop Wastewander Cipher.
- Combine the items. Use the Coded Warlock Notes and Wastewander Cipher from your inventory to create Deciphered Warlock Notes.
- Find the summoning scroll. Look around coordinates 58, 36 for the Cryptic Scroll of Summoning. A guide places it at 58.0, 36.0; another describes it near tents at 58.7, 36.5. Treat these as approximate map positions and search the surrounding area. The scroll is a ground object and is not interacted with directly.
- Summon the enemy. Stand on the scroll and use Deciphered Warlock Notes.
- Defeat and loot. Kill the level 43 elite Enraged Voidwalker that appears, then loot Rune of Mental Dexterity.

What the rune does
Mental Dexterity is a Shaman helm rune. The item database currently describes Stormstrike damage as increasing Attack Power by 150% of Intellect and spell damage by 35% of total Attack Power for 30 seconds. These values and the trigger have changed over time, so check the live tooltip for the version you are playing.
