Keep all four Answering quests until you reach Feralas; turning them in earlier prevents the final boss summon, according to Wowhead’s SoD rune guide.
Choose between the Rune Broker and the discovery route

The guide lists Alliance Rune Brokers in Darnassus, Ironforge, and Stormwind, and Horde brokers in Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, and Undercity. Traditional route: complete the four elemental quests
At level 45 or higher, collect Shaman’s Notes drops to start the elemental questlines. Each one leads to a sapta, a tainted Spirit Rock, and a Corrupt Moderate Manifestation. Turn in the elemental quest in its zone, then accept the corresponding Answering quest and keep it in your quest log for Feralas.

- Farm Blisterpaw Hyenas, Land Ragers, or Glasshide Gazers around coordinates 61,56 for Smudged Shaman’s Notes.
- Start Purging Earth, then use Murky Earth Sapta at the tainted Spirit Rock around 62,64.
- Defeat the Corrupt Moderate Manifestation of Earth and turn in around 62.0,62.2.
- Accept Answering Earth’s Call. Do not turn it in here.
Searing Gorge: Fire
- Farm Magma Elementals or Inferno Elementals for Charred Shaman’s Notes; Wowhead suggests the area around 31,72.
- Start Purifying Fire, then use Murky Fire Sapta at the tainted Spirit Rock around 24,72.
- Defeat the Corrupt Moderate Manifestation of Fire and turn in around 23.8,73.0.
- Accept Answering Fire’s Call and save it for Feralas.
The Hinterlands: Air
- Farm Jade Oozes or Green Sludges for Torn Shaman’s Notes.
- Start Clarifying Air, then use Murky Air Sapta at the tainted Spirit Rock around 51,46.
- Defeat the Corrupt Moderate Manifestation of Air and turn in around 51.0,46.8.
- Accept Answering Air’s Call and keep it until Feralas.
Azshara: Water
- Farm Haldarr Satyrs, Haldarr Tricksters, or Haldarr Felsworn around 21.2,60.8 for Waterlogged Shaman’s Notes.
- Start Cleansing Water, then use Murky Water Sapta at the tainted Spirit Rock around 14,49.
- Defeat the Corrupt Moderate Manifestation of Water and turn in around 14.8,49.6.
- Accept Answering Water’s Call. Save this quest along with the other three.
Gather the essences and summon the boss in Feralas
- Travel to the southwest coast of Feralas and farm Sea Elementals and Sea Spray for Elemental Essences.
- Collect three essences for each of your four Answering quests: 12 total.
- Combine each set of three essences with its corresponding Fragment to create four Glowing Fragments.
- Go to the four-pillar area around coordinates 36,33. Use the Glowing Fragments there and turn in all four Answering quests to the spawned Moderate Manifestations.
- Those turn-ins summon the level 50 Twilight Dark Shaman. Defeat it to obtain the Rune of Overcharged.
The four Answering quests are the critical part of the setup: Wowhead’s guide says turning them in to their original manifestations marks them complete and prevents the Feralas summon. The rune comes from the boss, not simply from completing an elemental quest hand-in.

What to know if the rune does not drop or you already completed the discovery
Warcraft Wiki records a July 31, 2024 hotfix stating that the rune could then be obtained by players who had completed the discovery but did not receive it. The item page does not describe a current character-specific recovery workflow, so check the current client and quest state if that situation applies. The same page identifies Overcharged as a Shaman bracer rune and lists the Twilight Dark Shaman as its source: Warcraft Wiki’s Rune of Overcharged page.
Wowhead comments report players receiving the rune while grouped with another Shaman who summons the boss, but that is player-comment evidence rather than a formal eligibility rule. If you plan to skip the prerequisites, verify that your character can receive credit before relying on a group summon.
