To get the Soul artifact, accept the “All That Is Left” side quest from Lieutenant Mateus and follow its marker to the Chemical Tanks in the Chemical Plant area. Enter the underground section through the open hatch, loot the dead soldier’s PDA if you want to keep Soul, then climb back up and cross the tanks to the broken walkway where the artifact is located.
Reach the Chemical Tanks
- Accept the quest. Speak with Lieutenant Mateus and take “All That Is Left.” Follow the quest marker to the Chemical Tanks in the Chemical Plant area. GamesFuze’s walkthrough describes the quest route.
- Enter the underground area. At the marked tanks, look for the open hatch. Mutants are reported underground, so be prepared to fight.
- Loot the dead soldier’s PDA. Search the soldier before leaving the underground section. The PDA enables a quest resolution that lets you retain Soul.
- Climb to the artifact. Take the stairs back up, then follow the elevated route across the tanks to the broken walkway marked by the quest.
Choose whether to keep Soul or take coupons
The reported quest outcomes differ in both payment and whether you keep the artifact. The amounts below are guide-reported, not guaranteed for every game version or quest state.

If keeping the artifact matters more than the immediate payout, take the PDA and report the soldier’s fate to Mateus when the relevant choice appears. If you prefer the largest listed payment, the guides report that returning Soul to Mateus pays more than the other outcomes.
What Soul is and how to prepare
GSC Game World associates Soul with electro anomalies in its Treasures of the Zone guide. This quest, however, directs you to a specific location and route rather than requiring an ordinary artifact hunt. For general anomaly-field exploration, GSC’s Beginner’s Guide & FAQs recommends using bolts and a detector.

Quest and artifact issues have been addressed in official updates, so treat the guide-reported coupon amounts as outcomes that may vary by version or save state rather than fixed guarantees.
