To reach Mechagon as Horde for the first time, complete the Nazjatar introduction until you have established your hub and empowered the Heart of Azeroth. Then return to Dazar’alor and accept The Legend of Mechagon from Gazlowe near the flight master. The quest sends you to a vault in Tiragarde Sound, where the expedition to Mechagon begins.
First-time Horde route to Mechagon
- Unlock Battle for Azeroth World Quests and start the Nazjatar introduction. Blizzard’s 2019 update notes listed level 120 and completion of Unlocking the World as entry requirements at that time. Those are historical requirements, not confirmation of a current level gate; character levels and legacy-content access can change between expansions. Blizzard’s Rise of Azshara notes.
- Continue until you establish the Horde hub in Nazjatar and empower the Heart of Azeroth. Blizzard identifies those milestones as the point to begin the Mechagon journey. Rise of Azshara Content Update Notes.
- Return to Dazar’alor and find Gazlowe near the flight master. Accept The Legend of Mechagon, the documented Horde quest start, and follow it to the vault in Tiragarde Sound. Gazlowe’s summons leads into the route that reveals the island. Blizzard’s Mechagon Island Visitor’s Guide.
Do you need flying or the Mechagnome unlock?
Flying
No flying achievement is listed as a requirement for this initial quest route. Blizzard associates Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two with flying in Mechagon, so treat it as a later convenience rather than the way to start the first visit. Blizzard’s Pathfinder, Part Two announcement.
Mechagnomes
Unlocking the Mechagnome Allied Race is a separate Alliance objective; it is not the Horde travel requirement described for reaching the island. Blizzard’s Allied Races preview.
If the quest is not available
- Check that you have progressed far enough in the Nazjatar introduction to establish the hub and empower the Heart of Azeroth.
- Return to Dazar’alor and look near the flight master for Gazlowe and The Legend of Mechagon.
- Do not rely on level 120 as a current universal gate: it was part of the 2019 requirements, and the available official information does not confirm the present-day level requirement.
First visit versus returning later
The documented route explains how a Horde character first gets access through the quest chain. It does not establish a universal current portal, teleport NPC, or flight-path method for repeat trips after reaching Mechagon, so the first-visit instructions should not be taken as confirmation of how later travel works.
