In modern retail World of Warcraft, Alliance characters can try the Vanguard Battlemage at the entrance to Stormwind’s Mage Tower; Horde characters can try the corresponding mage in Orgrimmar’s lower portal room. Choose the Blasted Lands destination if it appears. In WoW Classic, Alliance can fly to Nethergarde Keep, while Horde can fly to Stonard in Swamp of Sorrows and continue south. The Dark Portal is in the Blasted Lands, but crossing it is a separate step from reaching the zone.

Retail: use a capital-city mage if the option is available
Alliance: Stormwind
Go to the entrance of Stormwind’s Mage Tower and speak with the Vanguard Battlemage. If the dialogue offers transport to Blasted Lands, select it. If you are following the Warlords of Draenor campaign, the Blizzard-hosted community guidance says to select “The Iron Horde” with Chromie first; treat this as advice for that character and campaign context, not a universal unlock requirement. Horde: Orgrimmar
Look for the corresponding mage in Orgrimmar’s lower portal room and check the dialogue for a Blasted Lands destination. The cited guidance does not establish that every Horde character will see the option, so a missing choice may reflect character or campaign state rather than a route available to all characters. Classic: use the listed flight points
Alliance: Nethergarde Keep
Take a flight to Nethergarde Keep if you have already discovered the flight path. It is in Blasted Lands and is listed by Blizzard’s Classic travel article as an Alliance destination. Blizzard Classic travel guide

Horde: Stonard
Fly to Stonard in Swamp of Sorrows if that flight path is known, then continue south toward Blasted Lands. Blizzard’s Classic guide lists Stonard for Horde in Swamp of Sorrows; it does not list a Horde flight point in Blasted Lands. The zone lies south of Swamp of Sorrows, but the cited route evidence does not establish a more precise walking itinerary. Blizzard Classic travel guide
Reaching Blasted Lands is not the same as entering Outland
The Dark Portal stands in Blasted Lands. In the Burning Crusade context, walking through it takes you to Hellfire Peninsula in Outland. Blizzard also describes Shattrath as an alternative route to Outland in its older travel guidance. In retail, the portal’s destination or the available NPC interaction can vary with timeline and quest state, so check what your character’s current interaction offers rather than assuming it behaves the same for every character. Why older portal directions may not work
An older Blizzard travel article directs players to portals in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Spirits and Stormwind’s Wizard’s Sanctum, and gives a level-58 threshold for that period. Those instructions are historical, not dependable current retail directions: later portal changes replaced some direct capital portals with NPC transport.
