You can start a new Deepwoken character with two of the four base attunements, or add an attunement to an existing character by completing that attunement’s trainer quest and drinking the potion the trainer gives you. The ingredients and quest steps vary by attunement, so check with the relevant trainer rather than assuming every route requires the same materials.
Choose two when creating a character
Character creation lets you choose up to two of the four base attunements: Flamecharm, Frostdraw, Thundercall, and Galebreathe. If you have not started the character yet, selecting two there is the most direct option.
The community-maintained Attunements page says the first attunement selected is the one that receives a starting training item; the second does not receive that starting allocation. Its update notes report that, after the May 15, 2026 update, new players start with all four base attunements unlocked. Because this is a community wiki rather than an official patch note, check the in-game character screen if the exact starting allocation matters.
Add an attunement to an existing character
- Find the trainer for the attunement you want.
- Complete that trainer’s quest and collect the required ingredients.
- Receive the attunement potion from the trainer and drink it. The potion grants one point in that attunement and unlocks it for future character creation.
The Attunement Potions page describes five ingredients as the general requirement, or two if the attunement is already unlocked. That is not a universal ingredient count: requirements and quest steps differ, and Ironsing uses a separate set of materials. Verify the current requirements with the trainer for your chosen attunement.

Which attunements can you add?
The four base choices are Flamecharm, Frostdraw, Thundercall, and Galebreathe. Shadowcast, Bloodrend, and Ironsing are unlockable attunements rather than base starting options. The Attunements overview lists the associated trainer ingredients:
- Flamecharm: Dying Embers
- Frostdraw: Frigid Prisms
- Thundercall: Spark Glands
- Galebreathe: Gale Stones
- Shadowcast: Umbral Obsidian
- Bloodrend: Heartstars
- Ironsing: a separate set of materials
Use these names to identify the relevant route, not as a guarantee of the full ingredient total or quest steps; those details may change and are not the same for every attunement.

Plan your build before adding a second attunement
More attunements draw on your finite investment budget. The community wiki’s Attributes page reports an extra investment point for a second attunement and one extra maximum attribute point per additional attunement. Plan your attribute and attunement investments around the mantras and talents you want rather than adding an element without accounting for the build cost.
