In Java Edition, stop using the expensive trade and let the villager work at its workstation and restock; an unused offer can recover from a demand-related price increase. For a broader personal discount, cure a zombie villager or earn the temporary Hero of the Village effect by completing a raid. The effect of hitting villagers is less clearly documented for Bedrock, so don’t assume Java’s rules apply there.
First, identify why the price went up
Mojang’s Java Edition Village & Pillage notes describe villager prices as depending on reputation and demand. Hitting a villager can affect reputation in Java, while selling out a particular offer can make that offer more expensive after it restocks. These are different causes, and the right fix depends on whether one trade or prices more broadly are the problem.
A Minecraft Feedback post from a player claims that hitting villagers raises prices in Java but not Bedrock. That is a user report, not an official Bedrock mechanics specification, so the edition difference is not firmly established here.
For one expensive trade, leave it unused through a restock
- Stop buying the specific offer that has become expensive.
- Make sure the villager can reach and work at its workstation. Mojang says villagers can restock up to twice per in-game day when they can work at their workstation.
- After the villager resupplies, check that offer again. The community-maintained Trading reference explains that demand is tracked per trade listing: an unused offer can have its demand-related price increase ease at a later resupply.
There is no guaranteed real-world wait time: the timing depends on the in-game schedule and whether the villager can access its workstation. A sold-out offer is reactivated when it is resupplied, according to the same Trading reference.

For a stronger Java discount, cure a zombie villager
The Trading reference describes curing as a way to give the player a larger, permanent personal discount in Java Edition. To cure one, apply Weakness to the zombie villager, then use a golden apple on it. The conversion takes five minutes.
The available reference does not establish a reliable exact discount amount or whether repeated cures keep increasing the discount, so don’t count on a particular price or on stacking cures.

For a temporary discount, complete a raid
Completing a raid grants Hero of the Village. The effect lowers prices for the affected player, and Mojang’s Java notes say the reduction scales with the effect level. Exact current percentages and duration are not established by the cited official notes.

Try leaving an expensive individual offer unused and allowing the villager to work and restock; that addresses demand on the offer. But do not assume that hitting villagers caused the increase—or that Java’s reputation penalty and cure discounts work identically—based only on the available Bedrock evidence. The cited Bedrock item is a player-submitted report, and a current official mechanics specification for the hitting-related price change is not established here.
