To host Chroma Technology 2, use the dedicated ChromaTech2Server_1.2.1_all.zip archive, titled Chroma Technology 2 v-1.2.1 – ServerPack V2. Extract it to a writable server folder, run LaunchServer.bat once, set eula=true in eula.txt after reading and accepting Minecraft’s EULA, optionally edit server.properties, and run LaunchServer.bat again.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
The pack targets Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. Every connecting player needs the matching Chroma Technology 2 release and the same Forge environment. The project author recommends allocating 8–10 GB of RAM; that is a planning recommendation, not a separately measured minimum.

What you need before starting
Chroma Technology 2 is a progression-focused modpack built for Minecraft 1.16.5 and the Forge mod loader. A reliable server starts with the correct server-specific download rather than the ordinary client pack.
Use the dedicated server archive
The recommended file is ChromaTech2Server_1.2.1_all.zip, listed as Chroma Technology 2 v-1.2.1 – ServerPack V2. It is a 361.90 MB release uploaded on February 21, 2022. The client release is listed separately as Chroma Technology 2-1.2.1, released for Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge on February 4, 2022.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Do not treat the client download as a substitute for the server pack. The server archive contains the launch script and server-side files needed for the official startup procedure.

Prepare a dedicated folder
Create a new folder reserved for this server, such as a folder named for the pack and release. The account running the server must be able to create and modify files there. Keeping the server in its own directory makes the world, configuration, logs, scripts, and future backups easier to identify.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Do not extract the archive into a protected operating-system directory where the launch script cannot write files. Avoid mixing this pack with another modpack’s files: shared folders can leave incompatible mods or configurations behind and make startup errors difficult to diagnose.
Download and extract ServerPack V2
- Download the official Chroma Technology 2 server file identified as
ChromaTech2Server_1.2.1_all.zip. - Create the empty server directory you prepared for this release.
- Extract the entire ZIP into that directory. Preserve the folder structure supplied by the archive instead of copying only selected files.
- Check that
LaunchServer.batis present in the extracted files. This is the script named by the pack’s own startup instructions.
The first extraction is the point at which you establish a clean baseline. If you later troubleshoot, keep this original server folder intact or make a clean copy before experimenting with configuration changes.
Run the official first-start sequence
The pack’s documented flow deliberately uses two launches: the first creates or reveals the EULA and other runtime files, and the second starts the accepted server.

1. Launch once to generate the EULA
Open the server folder and run LaunchServer.bat. Allow the script to finish its initial file-generation attempt. On this first run, the server may stop because the EULA has not yet been accepted; that is expected behavior for a new installation.
2. Accept the EULA in the file
Open the newly created eula.txt in a text editor. Read Minecraft’s EULA, and only if you agree to it, change the setting from:
eula=false
to:
eula=true
Save the file as plain text with the filename still exactly eula.txt. The value is lowercase, and an accidental extra extension such as eula.txt.txt will not satisfy the server.
3. Configure server.properties if needed
Open server.properties and change the settings you actually need before inviting players. The pack instructions specifically identify this file as the place to configure the server. Possible categories include the listening port, world name, difficulty, whitelist behavior, and other standard server options exposed by the file.
Make one change at a time when diagnosing a problem. Keep a copy of the original file so you can restore a known-good configuration. If a setting is not present or its accepted values are unclear, leave it at the supplied value and verify the relevant Minecraft or Forge documentation for this 1.16.5 environment rather than guessing.

- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
4. Launch again
Run LaunchServer.bat a second time. Wait for the server console to finish loading before attempting to connect. Keep the console window available while testing: startup messages and error text are more useful than repeatedly double-clicking the script and closing it before you can read the result.
Match every player’s client
Modded multiplayer is version-sensitive. Give each player the same Chroma Technology 2 client release and the same Minecraft and Forge baseline used by the server.
- Install the Chroma Technology 2-1.2.1 client release.
- Use Minecraft 1.16.5.
- Use Forge for that Minecraft version. A technical mirror associates this release with Forge 36.2.22; record the exact Forge build shown by your server and client installations.
- Do not mix a newer or older Chroma Technology 2 release with the v1.2.1 server.
- Do not remove or add mods casually. A client and server can fail to negotiate when their mod contents or versions differ.
The official materials do not publish a complete list of client-only mods or Java patch requirements. If a connection fails despite matching the release labels, compare the installed mod files and Forge build, then consult current Forge and Minecraft documentation for the operating system and Java installation you are using.
Allocate memory without starving the host
The Chroma Technology 2 project description recommends 8–10 GB of RAM for the pack. This figure comes from the pack author and should be treated as a planning recommendation; the available project information does not establish a separately measured minimum for a dedicated server.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Interpret the recommendation correctly
RAM assigned to the Java process is not the same as total physical memory in the computer. The operating system, file cache, background services, remote-access tools, and any other game or application also need memory. Leave operating-system headroom instead of assigning every available gigabyte to Minecraft.
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
Start within the recommended 8–10 GB range when the machine has enough total memory to reserve that amount and still run the operating system comfortably. If the host cannot provide that headroom, reduce other workloads or choose a larger machine rather than forcing the server to consume all memory.
Do not change launch parameters blindly
The supplied server pack’s batch file is the authoritative starting point for its launch command. Inspect it only when you need to understand how the pack starts. If you edit memory or other Java arguments, keep a backup of the original script and make one controlled change at a time. A server that starts with a modified command is not necessarily stable under world generation or several concurrent players.
Make the server reachable
Running the batch file successfully only proves that the process started on the host. Players also need a network path to that computer.
Local testing
First test from the same computer or local network where the server runs. This separates a modpack or startup problem from an Internet-routing problem. Confirm that the server console remains running and that the client uses the matching v1.2.1 pack and Forge environment.
Firewall and router configuration
The available Chroma Technology 2 instructions do not publish operating-system firewall rules, router port-forwarding steps, or a required port number. Use the port value shown in your server.properties, then validate firewall and router settings against the documentation for your operating system and network equipment. If you change the port, every connection method must use the new value.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Do not expose a port before you understand which machine receives the traffic and which application is listening. A port-forwarding rule aimed at the wrong local address can look identical to a server that is offline. Test locally first, then test from an external connection.

Whitelist and access control
If you enable a whitelist in server.properties, add players through the server’s normal administrative controls before asking them to connect. A rejected connection caused by a whitelist is different from a mod mismatch or a closed firewall port, so note the exact console message.
Troubleshoot common startup and connection failures
The batch file opens and closes immediately
- Confirm that the ZIP was fully extracted and that
LaunchServer.batis being run from the extracted server folder. - Verify that the folder is writable by the account launching the script.
- Run the batch file from an already-open command prompt in that directory so the error remains visible after the script stops.
- Check whether the first run created
eula.txt. If it did, read the EULA and seteula=truebefore launching again. - Restore the original launch script if you changed Java arguments or paths while experimenting.
The server stops because of the EULA
Open the exact eula.txt located beside the server files, change only the value to eula=true after accepting the EULA, save it, and run LaunchServer.bat again. Check for spelling, capitalization, and accidental duplicate file extensions.
A client reports a missing mod or rejects the connection
- Confirm that the player installed Chroma Technology 2-1.2.1 rather than a different release.
- Confirm Minecraft is 1.16.5 on both sides.
- Confirm the Forge build; Forge 36.2.22 is the build associated with this release by a technical mirror.
- Compare the installed mod contents and restore any files removed from the client or server.
- Read the server console’s complete message. The exact missing or mismatched component is more actionable than a generic connection failure.
The server starts, but remote players cannot join
- Verify the server is still running after startup and is listening on the port configured in
server.properties. - Test from the host or local network before testing over the Internet.
- Check the host firewall and router forwarding for the same port and the correct local computer.
- Make sure players are using the externally reachable address and port, not an address valid only inside your home network.
- Check whitelist settings and read the console for an explicit rejection reason.
Backups, upgrades, and change control
Before changing the pack release, Forge build, configuration, or installed mods, stop the server cleanly and back up the world directory and configuration files. Keep the backup outside the live server folder so an extraction or cleanup cannot overwrite it.
Record the exact Chroma Technology 2 release, archive filename, Forge version, memory setting, and notable server.properties choices. This record gives you a known baseline when a future update introduces a crash or a player reports a new connection error.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo not remove mods simply because a client appears to start without them. A modpack’s progression, world data, recipes, and block IDs can depend on those files. Test any change on a copy of the world first, and retain the untouched production backup until the new setup has been verified.
Self-hosting compared with managed hosting
Self-hosting is the most transparent option when you can leave a suitable computer online and manage its network. A managed host can reduce operating-system and networking work, but you must confirm that the provider still supports this historical Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge pack before paying for a plan.
| Consideration | Self-hosted computer | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | No hosting subscription, but you provide the computer, electricity, storage, and network connection. | Recurring subscription; current pricing and promotional terms vary by provider and region. |
| Setup effort | You extract the pack, run the script, configure the operating system, and handle network access. | The provider may supply a control panel and preconfigured networking, but the pack still needs to be available and supported. |
| File and backup control | Direct control over the world, scripts, configurations, and backup schedule. | Control depends on the panel’s file access, backup tools, retention policy, and export options. |
| Player capacity | Limited by your CPU, RAM, storage speed, and upload bandwidth. | Limited by the selected plan and the provider’s hardware sharing; no current benchmark is established here. |
| Support | You diagnose Forge, Java, networking, and world problems yourself. | Support may cover the host platform, but modpack troubleshooting and historical-version compatibility must be confirmed. |
| Geographic latency | Players connect to the location of your own Internet connection. | You can select from available data-center regions, subject to the provider’s locations. |
| Version availability | You retain the server files and can run the v1.2.1 pack as long as the host meets its requirements. | Ask specifically whether the provider permits this 1.16.5 Forge server pack and custom files before ordering. |
The project page historically mentioned a configured-server option and a discount promotion, but those terms were tied to 2022-era information. Verify current availability, pricing, supported regions, and promotion conditions directly with any provider before relying on that option.
