Terraria cross-platform multiplayer is not yet confirmed as universally live. Re-Logic and DR Studios identify Terraria 1.4.6 as “Crossplay Phase One.” The latest official status available, the September 24, 2026 State of the Game, said the team was finishing that phase and expected it in players’ hands in the near future. Until a 1.4.6 release notice and platform-specific notes are published, treat PC-to-console and full desktop-console-mobile play as release-dependent.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Terraria servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
There is already a narrower, documented path: PC, dedicated servers and mobile can play together when every installation uses the same Terraria release. Console participation depends on the final 1.4.6 rollout, platform certification and cooperation with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. Older-generation console editions should not be assumed to join the modern crossplay pool.

What “cross-platform” means for Terraria
In this guide, cross-platform means players on different device families joining the same multiplayer world. That is different from cross-save, which would synchronize characters or worlds between devices; the official updates discussed here do not promise cross-save. It is also different from backward compatibility between console generations.
The planned 1.4.6 scope covers desktop, console and mobile. The exact combination that works for you will depend on four conditions:
#1 Best Overall
- In Terraria, every world is unique-from the floating islands in the sky to the deepest level of The Underworld. Adventure to the ends of the earth, and defeat villainous bosses along the way. The world is your canvas!
- Every player and the server must run the same supported Terraria release.
- The platform must be included in the released Crossplay Phase One build.
- The relevant platform-holder certification and regional rollout must be complete.
- The world, characters and server software must be compatible with that release.
A game being available on two platforms does not, by itself, prove that those platforms can connect. Terraria’s cross-platform support is tied to the game version and the way each platform distributes and certifies updates.
Terraria crossplay status in 2026
What the August 2026 update established
Re-Logic’s August 2026 State of the Game described a specific sequence. Once PC, console and mobile were all on version 1.4.5.7 and that release had remained stable for a few days, the team planned to move directly into Terraria 1.4.6. The update called 1.4.6 “Phase One of Crossplay.”

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →This is a development commitment and scope statement, not proof that every platform had already received the feature. Version 1.4.5.7 was the prerequisite release in that sequence; 1.4.6 was the planned crossplay build.
What the February and March updates confirmed
Earlier 2026 updates documented crossplay involving PC, dedicated servers and mobile when all participants used the same release version. That is the clearest currently established multiplayer route. Those updates also explained that console cross-platform multiplayer requires cooperation with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, so console support cannot be inferred from the PC/mobile arrangement.

The latest verified status: September 24, 2026
The September 24 State of the Game said the rest of the team was putting the finishing touches on Crossplay Phase One and that it should reach players “in the near future.” That wording indicates a final-preparation stage. It does not supply a universal launch date, a complete platform matrix or instructions for every console.
No later release announcement is established in the official material available for this guide. Check the 1.4.6 release notice, platform notes and any regional rollout messages before scheduling a mixed-platform session.

Does Terraria 1.4.6 enable crossplay?
1.4.6 is the release identified as Crossplay Phase One, so it is the version to watch. Once it is actually published for a platform, the relevant release notes should determine which combinations are enabled and whether the feature is immediately available in every region.
Do not interpret “Phase One” as a guarantee that every future Terraria device or every legacy edition is included. It describes the first crossplay phase, with desktop, console and mobile identified as the planned families. Certification, rollout timing and technical limits can still vary by platform.

Which platforms can play together?
The table separates documented capability from planned scope. “Confirmed” means the official updates explicitly described the route; “planned” means it is tied to 1.4.6 but was not yet confirmed as shipped in the latest status.
| Platform family | 2026 status | Version requirement | Typical hosting model | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PC/desktop | Confirmed with PC and mobile through the documented same-version path; broader 1.4.6 scope planned | Match the server and every player | Peer host or dedicated server | Crossplay feature availability still follows the released build |
| Mobile | Confirmed for the documented PC/dedicated-server/mobile path when versions match; console participation planned for 1.4.6 | Match the server and every player | Join a compatible host or dedicated server | Store rollout and regional build must be current |
| Current-generation consoles | Included in the planned desktop-console-mobile Phase One scope; final live status requires release notes | Use the same supported Terraria release | Use the platform’s supported multiplayer flow; dedicated-server details were not yet published | Platform certification and holder cooperation are required |
| Older-generation consoles | Do not assume compatibility with modern crossplay | Legacy edition limits apply | Only the multiplayer options supported by that edition | Re-Logic has warned that future current-generation updates would make crossplay with old-generation platforms impossible |
Because the final 1.4.6 platform notes were not part of the latest verified update, this table should be read as a planning guide rather than a promise that every listed pairing is live on October 15, 2026.
How to prepare a Terraria crossplay server
The safest setup is to treat version parity as a hard prerequisite. The following procedure works for the documented PC/dedicated-server/mobile path and provides the right checks for 1.4.6 once the platform notes confirm your combination.
- Identify every participant’s platform and generation. Record whether each player is on desktop, mobile, a current-generation console or an older-generation console. Remove legacy consoles from the planned group unless an official release note explicitly includes them.
- Update the game on every client. Install the same Terraria release on all devices. Do not mix a 1.4.5.x client with a 1.4.6 client, even if both devices can launch the game.
- Update the dedicated server to that exact release. The server executable and data files must match the clients. A server that has not received the same patch can reject connections or produce incompatible-world errors.
- Confirm that the release includes your platform pairing. Read the 1.4.6 release notice and platform notes. If the notice lists a staged rollout, wait until every player’s store region has received the build.
- Choose the hosting model. Use a peer host for a short session when the host can remain online. Use a dedicated server for a persistent world that should remain available independently of one player’s device.
- Prepare a clean, supported world. Back up the world and characters before migration. Keep the world on the server’s supported release and avoid opening the same save with an older build.
- Distribute the connection details through the supported platform flow. Use the official server-joining or invitation method documented for your platform. Do not assume that a PC direct-IP workflow is available on a console until the final console instructions say so.
- Test with one player from each platform family. Connect a desktop player, a mobile player and each intended console family separately before inviting the full group. This isolates certification or rollout problems from general server configuration.
- Record the working versions. Note the exact game and server versions that connected successfully. This makes later troubleshooting faster after a platform receives a patch.
The official material does not establish a universal command, port number or console menu path for 1.4.6 crossplay. Those details should come from the final server documentation rather than from instructions written for an earlier release.

- 14 Different environments (including dungeons, floating islands, jungles) that go to the extremities of the earth, up in the sky and all the way down to the very deepest depths of the world.
- Hundreds of weapons, armour and other items to craft, with character advancement.
- Explore to find different materials and make exotic potions, laser guns, magic wands, flamethrower, diving gear, speed boots, grappling hooks, chainsaws, magic mirrors, etc.
- 29 Different block types to build whatever you imagine!
- NPCs and a swarm of enemies (over 150 types) including goblins, wyverns, unicorns, and-GASP-clowns!
Dedicated server or peer host?
| Factor | Peer host | Dedicated server |
|---|---|---|
| Persistence | Usually ends when the host leaves or closes the session | Can keep the world available while the server is running |
| Setup effort | Lower for a small group | Requires server software, world management and version maintenance |
| Best use | Occasional sessions with friends | Long-running worlds and groups in different time zones |
| Crossplay condition | Every client still needs the same supported release | Every client and the server must match; platform support must be enabled in the released build |
| Console workflow | Use the console’s published invitation or multiplayer flow | Do not assume direct joining or dedicated-server support until the 1.4.6 console notes specify it |
A dedicated server solves persistence, not compatibility. It cannot make an old-generation edition or an unreleased platform build join a session.
Can mobile join a PC Terraria server?
Yes, the official February and March 2026 updates describe PC, dedicated-server and mobile play when all three are on the same release version. That is a narrower, already documented route and does not require waiting for console crossplay.
For a mobile-to-PC session:
- Install the same Terraria release on the mobile device, PC client and dedicated server.
- Verify that the mobile store has delivered the intended update; a delayed store rollout creates a version mismatch even when the player taps “update.”
- Use a server and world format supported by that release.
- Test the mobile connection before moving an established world to a new version.
If mobile cannot connect while the PC client can, compare the displayed version numbers first. Only after version parity is confirmed should you investigate network reachability or server configuration.

Console crossplay is the least safe area for assumptions. Re-Logic has said that cooperation with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo is required, and the latest verified status still described Phase One as being finished rather than universally released.

Current-generation consoles
Current-generation console editions are part of the planned 1.4.6 desktop-console-mobile scope. Their participation depends on the platform-holder certification process and the timing of the store rollout. A player may therefore see 1.4.6 at a different time from a friend in another region or on another platform.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Do not add an older-generation console to a modern crossplay plan without an explicit compatibility statement. Re-Logic has explained that future current-generation updates would make crossplay with old-generation platforms impossible. The practical consequence is that a legacy edition may remain playable on its own while falling outside the current crossplay pool.
Worlds, characters and mods
World and character alignment
Back up worlds and characters before changing versions. Keep the active world on the same release as the server and all clients. A world created or saved by a newer build may not behave correctly when opened by an older client, so rolling one participant back is not a reliable fix for a mismatch.
Mods and tModLoader
The cited official updates do not establish cross-platform mod support. Do not promise that tModLoader or other modded clients can join a crossplay session. For the most predictable test, use the supported unmodded release on every client and the server. Treat any mod compatibility statement as unverified until official 1.4.6 documentation specifically addresses it.
Crossplay troubleshooting
| Symptom | Most likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| “Version mismatch” or immediate rejection | Client and server are on different releases | Compare the exact Terraria version on every client and the dedicated-server package |
| PC and mobile connect, console cannot | Console rollout or certification is incomplete | Read the 1.4.6 platform notes and confirm the console has received the build in its region |
| Only one region cannot join | Staged store or certification rollout | Check regional availability and whether the platform is still on the previous release |
| Legacy console is rejected | The edition is outside the modern crossplay boundary | Confirm whether an official note explicitly includes that generation; otherwise use a supported platform |
| World will not load after an update | The save was opened by a different release or incompatible server software | Restore the backup, update the server and clients together, then test a copy of the world |
| Modded player cannot join | Cross-platform mod support is not established | Test with an unmodded, version-matched client and server |
| Server is reachable but invitation flow fails | The platform uses a different certified multiplayer path | Follow the platform-specific 1.4.6 instructions instead of assuming a desktop direct-IP method |
Change one variable at a time. Updating every client and the server together is usually safer than repeatedly reinstalling a single player’s game while the rest of the group remains on a different build.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat is still unknown
The available official statements do not provide a universal launch date, player-count limit, latency target, complete console menu sequence, or cross-platform mod policy. They also do not establish that every region receives the feature simultaneously. Those omissions matter when planning a public or long-running server: use only the limits and procedures published with the actual 1.4.6 release.
Bottom line for 2026
Terraria is moving toward cross-platform multiplayer through 1.4.6 Crossplay Phase One. PC, dedicated-server and mobile play already has an official same-version condition, while full PC-to-console and desktop-console-mobile support remained in final preparation in the latest verified September 24 update. Build your server around exact version parity, verify the released platform matrix, and exclude older-generation consoles unless Re-Logic explicitly lists them as compatible.
