To host a DeceasedCraft server, run the pack’s official server files with Java 17 and Forge, or install the pack through a managed host’s modpack panel. The current main project release is 5.10.17 for Minecraft 1.20.1; the project lists 8 GB as the minimum server allocation, 10 GB or more as recommended, and 12 GB or more for the DH Edition.
The reliable setup is to match the server pack and client exactly, use Java 17 rather than Java 22, and test command-block-dependent features before inviting players.

What “DeceasedCraft server hosting” means
DeceasedCraft is a Forge modpack for Minecraft: Java Edition. A server is not created by copying only the client mods into a normal vanilla server. You need the server files supplied with the pack, a compatible Forge installation, Java 17, enough memory, and a way for players to reach the machine.

- Self-hosting: download the official server files, run them on your own Windows or Linux machine, and manage networking, backups, updates and performance yourself.
- Managed hosting: rent a Minecraft server and use its control panel to install DeceasedCraft. The provider handles the operating system and most networking, while you still choose the pack version, world settings and memory plan.
The main CurseForge file list currently identifies version 5.10.17 as the latest release for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, with 5.10.16 immediately before it. The project also lists Minecraft 1.18.2, but instructions written for that older line should not be treated as instructions for the current 1.20.1 release.

Choose the correct DeceasedCraft server pack
Current and older versions
| Pack or upload | Minecraft and loader | What it means for your server |
|---|---|---|
| DeceasedCraft 5.10.17 | 1.20.1, Forge | Latest file shown by the main project list |
| DeceasedCraft 5.10.16 | 1.20.1, Forge | Previous file in the main project list |
| DeceasedCraft 1.18.2 line | 1.18.2 | Older game-version branch; do not mix its files with a 1.20.1 installation |
| “Deceased – Server Pack” by ItzRealXD | 1.20.1, Forge | A separate CurseForge project; its “DeceasedCraft – Urban-5.10.16.zip” upload is dated July 2026 and is not the main project’s file |
When downloading, open the additional-files section of the exact release you intend to run and identify the server archive there. Check the project name, Minecraft version and release number before downloading. Two similarly named projects can produce different folder layouts and different mod lists.
Do not mix client and server versions
Every player should install the same DeceasedCraft release and Minecraft version as the server. A 1.20.1 client cannot reliably join a 1.18.2 server, and using 5.10.16 client files against a 5.10.17 server can produce missing-mod, registry or protocol errors. Keep a note of the exact release number in your server folder so a new player can reproduce it.
Hardware, Java and memory requirements
Java 17 is required
The DeceasedCraft getting-started guidance specifies Java 17 and warns that Java 22 will not work. Verify the runtime before launching:
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstalljava -version
The output should identify a Java 17 runtime. If your operating system has several Java installations, either change the system default or call the Java 17 executable by its full path in your start script. Installing Java 22 alongside Java 17 does not help if the server script still resolves to Java 22.
Allocate memory deliberately
| Allocation guidance | Use | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 8 GB | Minimum server allocation | Value listed on the DeceasedCraft project page and repeated by MinecraftHub |
| 10 GB or more | Recommended allocation for the standard pack | Project-page and MinecraftHub guidance |
| 12 GB or more | DH Edition | Higher allocation listed by the project page |
| At least 6 GB | Older 1.18.2 review guidance | Dated advice for an older pack line, not a current 1.20.1 requirement |
Use the current project guidance when sizing a new 1.20.1 server. An allocation is not the same as total physical RAM: the operating system, Java overhead and any other services also need memory. A machine with exactly 8 GB total RAM cannot safely dedicate all 8 GB to Minecraft. Leave headroom for the operating system and monitor the server after players and chunks are active.
Hosting vendors sometimes publish lower estimates based on player count, but those figures vary by provider and were not verified for this pack. Treat them as a host-specific quote rather than a DeceasedCraft standard.
Self-hosting: how to install DeceasedCraft on a Minecraft server
1. Create a dedicated server folder
Make a folder that you can find again, such as a directory named for the exact release. Do not place the server in a temporary downloads folder. Keeping one folder per tested release makes backups and rollbacks much safer.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →2. Download the additional server files
Open the chosen release in the main CurseForge DeceasedCraft project and find its additional-files section. Download the server archive associated with that release, not just the client profile. Extract the archive directly into the dedicated folder and preserve its directory structure. If the archive contains a start script, configuration directory or Forge server files, leave their relative locations unchanged.
If the filename says “Deceased – Server Pack” and the author is ItzRealXD, pause and verify that you intentionally selected that separate project. The similarly named July 2026 1.20.1 upload is not automatically interchangeable with the main project’s server files.
3. Install and verify Java 17
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime appropriate for your operating system. From the server folder, run java -version and confirm the major version is 17. Correct the system path or edit the launch script if another Java installation is selected.
4. Launch the Forge server once
Use the start script included with the server archive when one is provided. If the pack requires a Forge jar to be launched manually, use the exact jar filename present in your extracted folder rather than guessing a build number:
java -Xms8G -Xmx10G -jar <forge-server-jar> nogui
The memory values in that example are starting points within the published 8 GB minimum and 10 GB recommendation. Change them to match the physical memory available on the machine. Do not copy the literal angle-bracket text; replace it with the Forge server jar’s actual filename.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
The first launch normally creates server configuration files and may stop until the Minecraft EULA is accepted. Read the generated EULA file, set the acceptance value as required by Minecraft, then launch again. Keep the console visible during initial startup so you can see whether Forge finishes loading or reports a Java, mod or file error.
5. Confirm the world and mod loading
Wait for the console to report that the server is ready before attempting to join. A successful startup should create a world directory and load the pack’s mods without a fatal error. Stop the server from the console rather than closing the terminal window; an orderly stop reduces the chance of a damaged world save.
6. Give players a connection address
Players on the same home network can usually connect using the host computer’s local address. Players outside that network need an internet-reachable address, a firewall rule and router forwarding for the port configured by the server. The default Minecraft port is commonly used, but check your server configuration and host’s instructions instead of assuming it.
Recommended Free Tools
Test from a second device or a friend’s connection. A connection that works locally does not prove that outside players can reach the server; carrier-grade NAT, double NAT and restrictive firewalls can block inbound connections.
Linux options and the older Debian installer
A community GitHub project named “deceased-craft-server” provides a Debian installation script. It targets DeceasedCraft 1.18.2, requires Debian 10 or later and root or sudo access, and can install Java 17 when it is missing. It also offers optional ZeroTier or Tailscale setup for remote access.
That script is an older shortcut, not a current 1.20.1 installation method. Use it only if you deliberately want the 1.18.2 pack and have checked that the script’s assumptions still fit your machine. For 1.20.1, download the current release’s server files and follow the pack-specific layout instead. Never point an 1.18.2 script at a 1.20.1 archive without confirming every version-specific step.

Managed deceasedcraft server hosting
A managed host is useful when you do not want to maintain Java, Forge files, firewall rules or an always-on home computer. Availability and controls differ by provider, and no hosting price was verified for this guide, so confirm the plan’s memory allocation and supported Minecraft version before paying.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Provider guide | Installation path described | Important caution |
|---|---|---|
| Pine Hosting | Stop the server; open the Modpack tab; choose CurseForge; install Deceased Craft; start the server from the console | Check that the selected file is the release you intend to run and that the plan meets the memory guidance |
| Apex Hosting | Choose the modpack in Game File; select Change Version; use Generate New World; choose Restart Now | Generating a new world can replace the active world, so back up an existing save first |
| WiseHosting | Lists a DeceasedCraft server-hosting page | Pricing and exact installation controls were not verified |
Check the plan before installing
- Confirm that the panel offers Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, not only vanilla or Fabric.
- Check the actual dedicated memory allocation. The published DeceasedCraft baseline is 8 GB minimum and 10 GB or more recommended.
- Ask whether the host supports uploading the official server archive if the one-click catalog does not show your exact release.
- Find out how backups, world downloads and version rollbacks work before creating a long-term world.
- Verify that you can view the live console; it is essential for diagnosing Java, mod and world-generation errors.
Command blocks and DeceasedCraft features
MinecraftHub reports that DeceasedCraft multiblocks and vehicle spawns depend on command blocks being enabled. If those features fail while ordinary blocks and mobs work, command-block availability is one of the first checks to make.
The exact enablement procedure was not verified for the current pack and host panels. Do not assume that a managed host’s default setting is correct. Check the current DeceasedCraft wiki and your host’s server-settings documentation, then restart the server after changing the setting. Test a multiblock and a vehicle spawn in a disposable world before opening the server to players.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Backups, updates and safe version changes
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly, then copy the world directory and the server’s configuration, mods and scripts to a separate location. Label the backup with the Minecraft version and DeceasedCraft release. A backup stored inside the same server directory does not protect you from an accidental deletion or a failed update.
Test an update in a separate folder
For a move from 5.10.16 to 5.10.17, create a second server folder, extract the new server files there and test startup before touching the production world. Keep the old folder intact until players have joined the new installation successfully. Do not overwrite a working 1.18.2 server with 1.20.1 files; treat that as a migration requiring a separate compatibility decision.
Be cautious with experimental builds
The main project page mentions a v5.11 Experimental Build available through Patreon. Its availability and stability were not verified. An experimental build should not replace the stable release on a world you care about unless you have a complete backup and accept that troubleshooting information may be limited.

Troubleshooting a DeceasedCraft server
The server exits immediately
- Run
java -versionagain from the same script or terminal used to launch the server. Java 22 is specifically warned against; switch the launcher to Java 17. - Check that you extracted the complete server archive and did not run a client-only folder.
- Read the first fatal error in the console rather than the final shutdown line. Missing files, an incorrect Forge jar or a mismatched mod version usually appear earlier in the log.
- If the first launch created an EULA file, complete that acceptance step and launch again.
Players receive a mod or registry mismatch
Write down the server’s Minecraft version, Forge version and DeceasedCraft release, then compare them with the client profile. Reinstalling only one mod can make the mismatch worse; use the complete client profile for the same release instead.
The server runs out of memory or pauses heavily
Check the Java allocation and the machine’s total RAM. Start at the published 10 GB recommendation when the hardware can support it, while leaving memory for the operating system. The 12 GB guidance applies to the DH Edition. If the machine cannot provide that headroom, reduce simultaneous services or move the server to hardware with more memory rather than allocating nearly all physical RAM to Java.
Vehicles or multiblocks do not work
Verify command-block availability with the host or server settings and consult the current DeceasedCraft wiki for the version-specific procedure. Test after a full restart; changing a panel setting without restarting may leave the running server unchanged.
The old Debian script fails on a current install
Confirm whether you are trying to run the script against 1.18.2 or 1.20.1. The documented script targets 1.18.2, so a failure against the current pack is expected behavior for an outdated automation path. Install the current server archive manually instead.
Local connections work but remote players cannot join
Check the host machine’s firewall, router forwarding and the address players are using. Test from outside the home network. If inbound forwarding is impossible, a private overlay such as the ZeroTier or Tailscale options mentioned by the older Debian project may help, but verify that every player can install and use the same network software.
Quick Recap
A practical launch checklist
- Choose one release and record its Minecraft and Forge versions.
- Download that release’s additional server files from the intended CurseForge project.
- Extract the archive into a dedicated, backed-up folder.
- Install 64-bit Java 17 and verify the launcher does not select Java 22.
- Allocate at least 8 GB; target 10 GB or more for the standard pack and 12 GB or more for DH Edition when hardware permits.
- Launch once, complete the EULA step, and confirm Forge reaches a ready state.
- Check command-block-dependent features before inviting players.
- Test local and remote connectivity, then schedule backups and document the exact release.
