To host Life in the Village 3 for Minecraft 1.18.2, use the modpack’s Forge serverpack rather than the client download, run it with Java 17, accept the EULA, set the server properties and JVM memory, then launch the included run.bat (Windows) or shell script (Linux/macOS). Players must install the same modpack on their clients. A managed panel can automate most of this, but you still need to verify that it installs the 1.18.2 build.

The exact current Forge build and newest serverpack release were not confirmed in the available documentation, so check the version label on the download you obtain before creating the world.

Prepare these items before you download anything:
- A computer or rented server that can remain online while people play.
- The Life in the Village 3 Forge serverpack for Minecraft 1.18.2.
- Java 17 installed in its default location.
- Enough free memory for the server and the operating system. The sizing guidance is listed in its own section below.
- A separate client installation of the same modpack for every player.
Do not use the ordinary client modpack ZIP as the server. The serverpack contains the Forge server files and launch scripts; a client archive is intended to be loaded by a player launcher and will not provide the same setup.
Download the correct LITV3 serverpack
Find the server-specific file
Open the modpack’s CurseForge page and switch to Additional Files. The file identified in the setup documentation is LITV3-Serverpack-1.3, marked for Minecraft 1.18.2 with Forge and uploaded by dreams01 in October 2022. The project wiki instructs administrators to use the latest serverpack listed in that Additional Files area, so treat that entry as an example and compare its Minecraft version with the version shown on the file you download.

Because the current release number and Forge build were not verified, do not assume that a newer file is compatible simply because its name looks similar. Record the file name and supported Minecraft version before extracting it; all clients will need to match that pack version.
Extract it into a short, simple folder
Extract the archive into a dedicated directory such as C:MinecraftLITV3Server on Windows or a short folder in your home directory on Linux. Avoid spaces and excessively long parent-folder names. The modpack documentation specifically associates long or complex paths with the Path is too long error, and keeping the path short also makes launch-script edits easier.
Do not place the server files inside the launcher’s client-instance directory. Keeping server and client folders separate prevents accidental deletion of server files when a player updates or removes an instance.
Install Java 17 and verify the runtime
Install the recommended Java version
This 1.18.2 Forge setup recommends Java 17. Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime using its default installation location. A different Java major version can cause Forge or the launch script to fail before the server starts, so check the version your operating system reports before troubleshooting the pack itself.
Fix the virtual-machine initialization error
If the console reports Error occurred during initialization of VM when you start the server, the wiki’s remedy is to edit run.bat and set the Java executable to its full path. Point the script directly to the Java 17 executable installed on your machine, save the file, and run the script again. This bypasses a system PATH that may still point to an incompatible Java installation.

Make a backup copy of the original script before editing it. Change only the Java path unless you intentionally need to alter the JVM arguments; preserving the pack’s Forge launch command makes later updates easier.
First startup: EULA, properties and JVM arguments
Accept the Minecraft EULA
- Run
run.baton Windows or the supplied.shscript on Linux/macOS once. - When the process creates
eula.txtand stops, open that file in a text editor. - Change
eula=falsetoeula=trueafter reviewing and accepting Mojang’s EULA. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
The server will not continue until that setting is true. If the file is recreated after an update, check it again before starting the world.
Set the basic server properties
Open server.properties and adjust the values that define how your world should behave. At minimum, review the server name or message shown to players and any gameplay or access settings you want to use. Save the file while the server is stopped; many properties are read at startup and will not change reliably while the process is running.
Keep a copy of your edited server.properties. It lets you restore your preferred configuration after replacing a serverpack or recovering from a failed update.
Use user_jvm_args.txt for custom Java flags
The pack provides user_jvm_args.txt for administrator-supplied JVM options. Put custom flags there rather than rewriting the generated Forge command in the launch script. This separation keeps your settings visible and reduces the chance that a pack update will overwrite them.

Only add flags you understand. An invalid option can stop Java before Forge loads, producing an error that looks like a mod failure. If a newly added option causes a startup problem, remove it from user_jvm_args.txt and test with the original arguments.
Choose a memory allocation
Memory is the main resource cost for this modpack. The Life in the Village 3 wiki recommends a minimum of 4,096 MB and suggests 6,144–8,192 MB when that amount is available. Hosting companies publish slightly different recommendations, reflecting different assumptions about player count and server hardware rather than a single measured benchmark.

These figures are guidance, not survey statistics. Start within the range your hardware can sustain, watch the server console and in-game responsiveness, and increase the allocation only if the host has memory to spare. Giving Java nearly all of a machine’s RAM can make the operating system unstable, so reserve capacity for the OS and any other services running on the same computer.
Start the server
Windows
- Close any previous server process.
- Confirm that
eula.txtcontainseula=trueand that your memory and Java-path settings are saved. - Double-click
run.bat, or launch it from a Command Prompt opened in the server folder so you can read the complete console output. - Wait for Forge and the mods to finish loading before attempting to connect. The first launch can create additional configuration files and take longer than later starts.
Linux or macOS
- Open a terminal in the extracted server directory.
- Run the supplied
.shlauncher after confirming Java 17 is the runtime it will use. - Keep the terminal session available while testing so startup errors remain visible.
- Stop the server cleanly through its console command before closing the terminal or restarting the machine.
The launch script is the supported entry point because it supplies the Forge arguments expected by the pack. Starting a random JAR from the directory can omit those arguments and lead to missing-mod or class-loading errors.
Install the matching client pack
Use a supported launcher
Every player needs the same Life in the Village 3 modpack on the client. The documentation names the CurseForge app and launchers such as GDLauncher as suitable ways to install it. Select the 1.18.2 Forge profile that corresponds to the serverpack; do not mix a client profile from another Minecraft version with this server.

Keep the client path short
When creating the client instance, choose a folder path without spaces or an unusually long chain of parent folders. The pack documentation links long paths to Path is too long failures. If the launcher reports that error, move the instance to a shorter directory rather than repeatedly reinstalling individual mods.
Connect only after the server is ready
Launch the client after the server console indicates that startup has completed. A client with a different mod list, Forge version or pack release can fail during connection even when both sides say “1.18.2”; the complete modpack build must match.

Self-hosting versus a managed panel
Self-hosting gives you direct access to server.properties, user_jvm_args.txt, logs and world files, but you are responsible for Java, updates, backups and keeping the machine online. A managed panel charges for the allocated resources and handles much of the installation workflow, while exposing settings through its control panel.

In the provider’s installer, search for Life in the Village 3 and select the pack entry, then click install. The summarized instructions do not state which Minecraft version that entry uses. Check the resulting game-version and Forge fields before creating a world; if they do not show 1.18.2, stop and choose a different entry or install the serverpack manually.

The available summary does not identify the Minecraft version on the provider page, so verify 1.18.2 before the first startup. The provider’s separate guidance says at least 4 GB, but that is a plan recommendation rather than a performance guarantee.

Troubleshooting by symptom
“Error occurred during initialization of VM”
- Confirm Java 17 is installed.
- Edit
run.batso it uses the full path to that Java 17 executable. - Remove any recently added JVM option from
user_jvm_args.txtand retry.
“Path is too long”
- Move the server or client instance to a short directory with no spaces.
- Restart the launcher or script from the new location.
- Keep future backups and extracted updates in similarly short paths.
The server stops immediately after launch
- Read the console from the first error line instead of the final shutdown message.
- Check that
eula=trueis present and saved. - Verify that you launched the supplied Forge script, not an unrelated JAR.
- Undo untested JVM flags and confirm the Java path points to Java 17.
Players receive mod or version mismatch errors
- Compare the serverpack filename, Minecraft 1.18.2 designation and Forge build with each client profile.
- Remove old client instances and reinstall the exact pack release if necessary.
- For a panel installation, verify the panel’s game-file entry rather than relying on its short modpack name.
Updating and maintaining the server
Record the working configuration
Keep copies of server.properties, user_jvm_args.txt and your chosen memory setting. Also note the exact serverpack filename and the Java version. These records make it possible to reproduce a working installation after replacing files.
Back up before changing the pack
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world and configuration files, and only then test a newer serverpack. Since the current Forge build and latest release number are not established in the available documentation, treat every upgrade as a compatibility change rather than an automatic drop-in replacement.
Keep all players on one release
Update the server and distribute the matching client profile together. Allowing some players to remain on an older pack can create connection failures or inconsistent mod behavior even though the Minecraft version remains 1.18.2.

In either case, the reliable combination is the 1.18.2 Forge serverpack, Java 17, an accepted EULA, a deliberate memory allocation and clients installed from the same modpack release.
