To host a live shopping event on YouTube, first check which Shopping route your channel can use: tag products from a connected store, or—if eligible—tag participating brands’ products through YouTube Shopping Affiliate. Then schedule the stream, tag and order the products in YouTube Studio, and run a focused demonstration with time for viewer questions. Product access and visibility depend on your channel, location, retailer, and viewers’ shipping regions.
Choose how viewers will shop
| Route | What you need | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Your own products | A channel that qualifies for YouTube Shopping, a connected eligible store, and products approved for tagging. YouTube names Shopify, Spring, and selected retailers among store options. Product approval can take up to five days. | You are selling products from your own connected store. |
| Other brands’ products | Eligibility for YouTube Shopping and, where applicable, enrollment in YouTube Shopping Affiliate. You must meet the program’s current requirements and have access to participating retailers and products. | You want to feature products sold by participating brands rather than inventory from your own store. |
For the affiliate route, YouTube’s help page lists eligible creator locations as Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. Its stated requirements include being in the YouTube Partner Program and meeting its subscriber threshold. Music channels and channels with a made-for-kids audience are excluded under the stated requirements. Requirements and availability can change, so check the Shopping section in YouTube Studio for your channel’s current eligibility. YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program eligibility

Prepare the event and products
Allow time for product approval
Connect your store and submit products for review well before the event. YouTube says approval for products from a connected store can take up to five days. If you plan a product drop with a publish date, YouTube recommends setting it up at least a week before the livestream.
Plan a useful demonstration
Decide the event’s purpose, product count, sequence, and pace. YouTube recommends a 30-to-60-minute shopping livestream; this is guidance, not a minimum duration or platform rule. Plan enough time to show products clearly and answer questions without rushing through the list. YouTube’s live-shopping tips for selling your own products

If you are hosting from a phone, have a laptop or desktop ready to manage product tags and live chat. You can stream from a mobile device or use an encoder; choose based on your production needs and how you will manage the show.
Schedule the livestream and tag products
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live, and open the scheduled stream or its management view.
- Below the preview, open the Shopping tab. Search the available products and tag only the items you will feature.
- Remove products that no longer belong in the event, arrange the remaining products in the order you want viewers to see them, and save. The order in the picker is the order shown to viewers.
- Use the Shopping tab to pin a featured item before or during the livestream. You can update product selections during the event, although some viewers who are already watching may not see changes immediately.
- If you want products to appear in the replay, you can tag products after the stream as well.
Choose products that are prominent in the event, used safely, and meaningfully related to what you are showing. Do not fill the shelf with unrelated items. Tag products in your live streams

Host the shopping event
- Open by explaining the event’s purpose and where viewers can find the product list.
- Demonstrate products in the order you planned. Explain how each works, show relevant ways to use it, and make it easy to identify the item being discussed.
- Watch live chat and answer viewers’ questions. If you are streaming from a phone, use the laptop or desktop you prepared to help manage chat and product tags.
- Give clear, accurate prompts for finding or considering the featured products. Avoid implying that a product is available to every viewer: delivery and product information can depend on the viewer’s region.
YouTube recommends explaining products in detail, demonstrating different uses, and answering viewer questions. Its published figure of 30 billion watch hours of shopping-related videos refers to YouTube Internal Data, global, in 2023; it describes shopping-related viewing overall, not expected attendance or sales for an individual livestream. Plan a timed product drop, if needed
A product drop is useful when the event includes a scheduled reveal or release. Drops without publish dates are available to creators in the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program or with an eligible connected store, and the product must be reviewed first. Drops with publish dates require direct access to the connected Shopify store or Google Merchant Center.

YouTube guidance on product drops
Check rights, policies, and regional availability
- Content eligibility: Product tags may not appear on claimed content, made-for-kids videos, content with limited or ineligible monetization, paid content, or content blocked for ads.
- Livestream rights: You must own or control the rights to stream your content or have permission for them, including any necessary public-performance music rights.
- Relevant, safe product use: Tag items that are featured prominently, used safely, and meaningfully connected to the livestream.
- Paid promotions: Review your contracts and use appropriate YouTube paid-placement and endorsement disclosures for sponsored content.
- Shipping limits: Product tags and full product information depend on the regions where items can be delivered. Viewers may see a message that shipping is unavailable in their area.
YouTube product-tagging rules for live streams
Amazon product tags: additional requirements
YouTube’s current guidance says creators tagging Amazon products must be in the YouTube Partner Program and YouTube Shopping Affiliate. In the United States, creators must also have an active Amazon Influencer Program or Amazon Associates account linked to their YouTube channel. YouTube says Amazon tagging is also available to eligible YouTube Shopping creators in Brazil and India. These conditions do not mean every creator or every Amazon listing is eligible; check the products available to your channel in Studio. YouTube guidance on tagging Amazon products
Troubleshoot common shopping-event problems
- A product does not appear in the picker: Check that your channel and commerce route qualify, the store is connected if you are selling your own products, and the product has completed review. For affiliate products, check that the item is available to your account and region.
- Tags are missing from the stream: Check whether the content falls into a category where tags are not shown, including claimed, made-for-kids, paid, limited-monetization, ineligible-monetization, or ad-blocked content.
- Some viewers cannot see product details or buy: The product may not ship to their region. Check the product’s delivery areas and make sure the listing is available to the intended audience.
- Viewers do not see a product change: YouTube notes that some existing viewers may not see updates immediately. Confirm the saved selection and pin the current featured item when appropriate.
- A drop link leads to an unavailable product: Check that the publish date and time match across YouTube, the store, and the landing page.
- You cannot manage tags or chat easily from a phone: Use the laptop or desktop you prepared for product tagging and live chat management.
