YouTube Studio can schedule a live event, but a playlist is not, by itself, a documented way to run an endless 24/7 live broadcast. To keep a regional news archive channel on air, schedule a YouTube Live stream, connect an encoder that sends a continuous feed, and separately organize finished recordings into playlists. Test the setup before launch, preserve local recordings, and clear the rights to every item you rebroadcast.
What “schedule a 24/7 playlist” means on YouTube
YouTube Live and YouTube playlists serve different purposes. A scheduled live stream is an event viewers can watch as it is broadcast. A playlist groups videos for discovery and playback. YouTube’s help explains scheduling live streams and organizing archives and highlights as separate tasks; it does not document a playlist as an automatic, endless live playout system. For a continuous channel, you need a software or hardware encoder, or a hosted playout service, that actually sends the video feed to YouTube. Before relying on any setup, confirm that it can loop or schedule files, recover after a disconnect, and behave as expected across a long-running broadcast. Scheduling the event in Studio alone does not make the feed play continuously.

Enable and verify live streaming early
- Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days.
- Enable live streaming well before launch. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Assemble the archive and confirm that the channel has rights to every report, clip, photo, graphic, music bed, and sound recording it will rebroadcast.

Plan for a usable archive, not just a live feed
YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a dependable archive plan. Record locally, verify that the recording file is growing, and decide how to preserve and publish usable segments. Do not assume a third-party playout system will split or reconnect the feed in a particular way; confirm its behavior directly. YouTube’s archive guidance describes the 12-hour caveat.
Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and select Schedule Stream.
- Create a stream or reuse settings. Set the title, scheduled time, visibility, and relevant stream settings. If reusing settings, review the copied title, description, visibility, and stream-key selection rather than assuming they are correct.
- Save the event and use its scheduled watch page to check access. Share that link in advance if viewers need to find the broadcast.

Connect an encoder and test the feed
- In the Live Control Room, retrieve the stream URL and stream key for the scheduled event.
- Enter those details in your software or hardware encoder. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your event.
- Configure the encoder to send the continuous program feed. Check its file order, loop or schedule behavior, restart behavior, and local recording settings before relying on it for unattended operation.
- Start the encoder and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm picture and sound, then verify the watch page and channel-page access. Check playback on a phone as well as your production screen.
- Monitor the local recording and confirm that the file is growing. If you have a backup encoder, test failover rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. That leaves time to check the preview and resolve connection or content issues before viewers arrive. YouTube’s streaming tips cover these checks and encoder timing.

Allow enough upload bandwidth
Calculate the combined upload bitrate of the feeds you will send, including a backup feed if it runs at the same time. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% spare upload bandwidth beyond the total stream bitrate. The connection must sustain the feed reliably; a speed-test result at one moment does not guarantee that a shared or fluctuating connection will do so throughout a continuous broadcast. Rights and India-specific checks
Clear every item for online rebroadcast
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of live content, comply with applicable law, and satisfy regulatory requirements where the stream is made available. A report that was previously broadcast, or a clip available online, is not automatically cleared for replay on your channel. Check the rights and licences for each component, including embedded music and third-party visuals. YouTube’s Terms of Service set out the platform terms.
Check whether digital-news rules apply to your channel
India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting says its Digital Media Division administers Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. That part includes a Code of Ethics for covered publishers of news and current affairs on digital media and a three-tier grievance-redressal mechanism. Whether the rules apply to a particular channel depends on its facts and status; the ministry’s general summary does not determine that question for every archive channel. India’s Copyright Rules page describes notice and royalty provisions for statutory broadcasting of certain published literary and musical works and sound recordings. That is a specific statutory framework, not blanket permission to rebroadcast a news archive online. Review the rules and obtain advice on the rights needed for your actual use: Copyright Rules.
Investigate PB-SHABD terms before using its material
A 10 March 2026 PIB release describes PB-SHABD (Prasar Bharati-Shared Audio-Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination) as a source of daily news items in video, audio, text, and photo formats, including material in major Indian languages. PIB says the content is logo-free, requires no credit, and that access would remain free through March 2027. Confirm current eligibility, account requirements, terms, and permitted uses with the service before incorporating anything into a live archive. PIB’s 10 March 2026 release on PB-SHABD.
A separate PIB release from 24 October 2024 described application criteria for YouTube-based digital news portals, including differing minimum subscriber thresholds for English/Hindi and regional outlets, account verification, a one-year operating history, and recent upload activity. Those criteria are historical guidance, not a guarantee of current eligibility; verify the current process. That release also attributed figures of more than 1,000 daily stories, over 1,500 reporters, correspondents, and stringers, and 60 edit desks to the service as of that release. Troubleshooting before and during launch
- The event is scheduled, but nothing is playing: Scheduling creates the event, not the continuous feed. Check that the encoder is connected with the correct event’s stream URL and key, is running, and is sending the intended program.
- The first stream will not activate: Live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it in advance, then test before announcing the launch.
- The preview stalls or playback is unreliable: Check whether the connection can sustain the total bitrate, including any simultaneous backup feed. Preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom and check the connection again during the stream.
- The event shows the wrong title or settings: If you reused settings, reopen the event and check the metadata, visibility, and stream-key selection.
- The 24/7 broadcast is missing from the archive: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a local recording and verify the file is being written; plan separate archive segments.
- The feed stops after a disconnect: Check the encoder or playout service’s restart and recovery behavior. Test backup-encoder failover in advance; do not assume a scheduled YouTube event automatically restarts the source.
- A clip triggers a rights issue: Pause use of the disputed material until you confirm the relevant rights and permissions. Prior availability or broadcast does not establish permission for this replay.

Organize recordings after the broadcast
Keep the live event and the archive easy to distinguish. After confirming that a recording is complete and usable, publish or retain the appropriate segments as videos and group finished reports or highlights into YouTube playlists. Share the scheduled watch link for the live event separately from links to archive playlists; one does not replace the other.
