A PS5 cannot run a Palworld dedicated server. To host a world that PS5 players can join, run the dedicated server on a Windows PC you keep online or rent a Palworld server. Install Palworld’s dedicated-server app (Steam app ID 2394010), make the server reachable on UDP port 8211, and publish it in the Community Servers browser. Crossplay between PC, Xbox, Windows, macOS and PS5 is enabled by default according to Pocketpair’s official documentation.

PS5 players do not have a Direct Connect field for entering an IP address and port. They must find the server through Community Servers, so network forwarding alone is not enough: the server also has to be configured and listed for console discovery.

What you need before you start
Palworld uses a client-and-server model. The console runs the game client; a separate machine runs the world simulation, saves the world and remains online when players are away. That is why a PS5 cannot be converted into the host machine. The host is either a PC you control or a rented game-server instance.
- A host machine: a Windows PC capable of running the dedicated server, or a rented Palworld server.
- The dedicated-server software: Steam app ID
2394010. - Network access: UDP port
8211forwarded to the self-hosted machine. A rented provider normally handles the port at the infrastructure level. - Console discoverability: a Community Servers listing. PS5 has no Direct Connect option.
- Reliable uptime: a self-hosted PC must stay powered on and connected whenever the world should be available.
Do not confuse the regular Palworld game installation with the dedicated server. The dedicated app is a separate server process and should be installed on the machine that will remain online.

Self-hosting versus renting a server
Both approaches can provide the same crossplay result. The difference is who supplies the always-on computer, network connection and maintenance.

Choose self-hosting when you already have a machine that can remain on and you are comfortable with router and firewall settings. Renting is usually simpler for a group that wants the world available without leaving a home PC running. Either way, ask one question before inviting PS5 players: Can this server be listed in the console Community Servers browser?

Hardware and storage requirements for a self-hosted PC
A 2026 guide by Ghosting lists 16 GB of RAM as a baseline and recommends more than 32 GB for a full server. Ghosting is a third-party source, and the official baseline was not independently verified in the available documentation, so treat those figures as planning guidance rather than a guaranteed capacity rating. Memory use varies with the world, player activity and other software running on the PC.
The same guide reports an installation size of approximately 12–15 GB since version 1.0. Leave additional free space for updates, logs and world-save backups; a drive that is nearly full can make updates and recovery needlessly difficult.

- Use a wired network connection if possible. It reduces one source of packet loss between the server and your router.
- Run the server on a machine that can remain powered on without sleep or hibernation interrupting it.
- Close applications that compete for memory or CPU time, especially on a PC also used for gaming.
- Install the server on a drive with room beyond the reported 12–15 GB footprint for updates and backups.
- Record the PC’s local network address; the router’s port-forward rule must target that address.
How to install the dedicated server on your PC
1. Install SteamCMD
SteamCMD is Valve’s command-line tool for downloading and updating dedicated-server applications. Install it in a folder you control, such as C:SteamCMD, rather than inside a protected Windows system directory. If you use a different operating system or a provider’s panel, follow that platform’s documented installation method instead of these Windows paths.
2. Download app 2394010
Open a command prompt in the SteamCMD folder and run:

Let it finish without closing the window. If SteamCMD reports that files were updated, run the command again only if validation indicates a problem; otherwise proceed to the installed server directory.
3. Launch the server once
Start the Palworld server executable from its installation directory. The first launch creates the folders and configuration files the server needs. Stop it cleanly after those files appear, then make configuration changes before opening it to players. The exact executable name and folder can vary with the installation location, so use the file placed by SteamCMD rather than guessing a path.

4. Locate the configuration file
On a typical Windows installation, server settings are under a path similar to Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. Your installation may use a different root directory. Make a backup copy before editing, and change one setting at a time so a syntax error is easy to identify.
Set the server name and password according to the options exposed by the current server configuration. Keep a private record of the password you give friends. Do not copy a configuration example from an older guide without checking the current game version; names and available options can change after updates.
Forward UDP port 8211
Ghosting’s 2026 guide identifies UDP 8211 as the port that must be forwarded for a self-hosted server. In your router’s administration page, create a port-forward rule that sends UDP traffic on external port 8211 to the PC’s fixed local address on the same port.
- Give the server PC a reserved address through the router’s DHCP reservation feature, or configure a reliable static local address.
- Open the router’s port-forwarding page.
- Create a rule for UDP, external port
8211, internal port8211, targeting the server PC’s local address. - Save the rule and restart the router only if its interface requires a restart to apply changes.
- When Windows Firewall prompts for the server, allow the executable on the network profile you actually use. If you create a manual firewall rule, allow inbound UDP 8211.
Forwarding TCP instead of UDP, forwarding to the wrong local address, or allowing the port through the router but not the PC firewall will leave the server unreachable. A changing local address can also silently break a rule, which is why reserving the address matters.

Make the server visible to PS5 players
Port forwarding does not automatically place a server in the console browser. PS5 players must use Community Servers, and Apex Hosting’s 2026 guidance states that console discovery requires the server to be listed there.
For a self-hosted installation, use the current server configuration and any in-game or server-panel option that enables public/community listing. The exact label and location of that option can change, and the available documentation does not establish a single universal setting name. If the server starts but never appears, treat listing status as a separate problem from port forwarding.
For a rented server, look for a setting described as community listing, public listing or console visibility in the provider’s Palworld panel. Because panel controls differ, check the provider’s current instructions or support response before purchase if PS5 access is essential. A listing toggle that only supports PC browsing will not solve the console requirement.
Older hosting articles may instruct you to choose PlayStation 5 in a platform dropdown inside PalWorldSettings.ini. That advice predates crossplay-by-default and may no longer be necessary. Follow the current panel’s behavior rather than adding an obsolete platform restriction.

Connect from a PS5
- Update Palworld on the PS5 and sign in to the account that will play.
- Open the multiplayer or server-browsing screen and choose Community Servers.
- Search for the exact server name. Use a distinctive name so it is easier to identify among similarly named worlds.
- Select the listing, enter the password if one is required, and join.
There is no Direct Connect field on PS5 for entering the host’s IP address and port. If the server owner gives you an IP address but the listing is absent, the address alone cannot be used from the PS5 client; the owner must correct the community listing or use a host that supports it.
Crossplay and platform expectations
Pocketpair’s official documentation says crossplay is enabled by default for Steam, Xbox, Windows, macOS and PS5. The dedicated server therefore does not need a special “PS5-only” mode for a mixed group. Players on the listed platforms should use the same server listing and credentials.

Crossplay being enabled by default does not guarantee that an outdated client can join an updated server. Keep the game and dedicated-server files current, and restart the server after applying an update.
Troubleshoot a server that does not appear on PS5
The server is running, but the browser cannot find it
- Confirm the server process is still running and has finished startup instead of closing with an error.
- Verify that Community Server or public-listing visibility is enabled. A private or unlisted server will not be searchable.
- Check that the server name in the listing matches the name you are searching for; remove unusual punctuation temporarily when testing.
- For self-hosting, recheck the router rule’s protocol, ports and destination address. It must be UDP 8211 to the current server PC.
- For rented hosting, ask support to confirm console-browser listing is enabled on the instance, not merely that the server is online.
The listing appears, but joining fails
- Confirm the password is exact, including capitalization and spaces.
- Restart the server and try again after it has completed startup.
- Make sure the PS5 game and the server files are on compatible current versions.
- On a self-hosted PC, check Windows Firewall and security software for a blocked server process or blocked inbound UDP traffic.
Friends are disconnected during play
- Check whether the host PC has entered sleep mode or lost its internet connection.
- Use a wired connection for the server where practical and look for packet loss or router restarts.
- Watch the PC’s memory and storage while players are online. The 16 GB and more-than-32-GB figures are planning guidance, not a promise of a particular player capacity.
Backups, updates and safe administration
Back up the world before maintenance
Stop the server cleanly before copying its save data. Keep at least one backup away from the live installation and label it with the date. Test that you can identify the correct world backup before making a major configuration change or update.
Update in a controlled order
- Tell players when the server will be offline.
- Stop the dedicated-server process.
- Back up the world and configuration.
- Run the SteamCMD update command for app
2394010. - Start the server and confirm that it reaches a ready state.
- Check the Community Servers listing from a PS5 before announcing that the world is open.
Protect access
Use a non-obvious password and share it only with the intended group. Keep router firmware, Windows and SteamCMD maintained. Do not publish your home IP address publicly when a server name and Community Servers listing are sufficient for players to find the world.
What the available evidence does—and does not—establish
The practical hosting path is clear: PS5 clients join a server hosted elsewhere, crossplay is on by default, UDP 8211 is the self-hosting port identified by the cited third-party guide, and Community Servers is the PS5 discovery route. The available material does not provide a verified player-count limit, a universal panel setting name for console listing, or a published statistic on how many PS5 players host or join these servers. Do not treat an advertised RAM figure as a guaranteed number of simultaneous players, and verify listing controls with a hosting provider before committing to a paid plan.
