For a self-managed server, download Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zip from the modpack’s CurseForge Files page, install the matching server loader, complete the normal first-start EULA step, and then install the same profile on each client. Choose Regular World for a shared multiplayer progression server; Story Mode is organized around one designated story player. What you need before creating the server
Solo Leveling: Reawakening is a fan-made progression mod for Minecraft. It is not a vanilla server plug-in: the mod runs on a mod loader and must be present on the server and on every joining client. A player with an otherwise correct Minecraft installation but a different loader, game version, pack release, or dependency set will not be compatible.
Minecraft Java Edition
Use Minecraft Java Edition for PC. The server pack and loader workflow described here is for Java modded servers, not Bedrock Edition. Confirm that each player owns and launches the same Java Edition installation before troubleshooting mods.

Pick one supported version-loader pair
The project lists two distinct releases. Treat them as separate ecosystems from download through connection testing:

The exact archive filename is reused for both releases, so identify it by Minecraft version and loader on the Files page rather than downloading the first similarly named file. Never combine the 1.20.1 Forge mod with the 1.21.1 NeoForge pack, or vice versa.

Hardware, network, and permissions
You need a computer or hosted instance that can keep the server process running, enough storage for the world and backups, and permission to run Java and write files in the server directory. The project pages do not establish a universal memory requirement or player-capacity limit. Allocate memory conservatively for your machine and adjust after observing actual server behavior instead of treating an unofficial number as a guarantee.
For friends connecting over the internet to a self-hosted machine, plan for network configuration and firewall access. Players on the same local network may be able to connect through the host’s local address, while remote players normally require an externally reachable server address and router port forwarding. A managed service can remove that network work, as described below.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Both approaches can run the same modpack, but they place different jobs on you. Choose self-hosting when you want direct access to files, configuration, logs, and world backups. Choose a managed service when minimizing setup and router administration matters more than controlling the underlying machine.

Self-hosted setup: complete procedure
1. Decide whether you need the mod or the complete modpack
Installing only the individual mod can work if you are prepared to identify every required library and keep its versions aligned. For a group, the complete modpack is the safer starting point because the client profile and dedicated server pack are assembled for the same release. Use the complete pack unless you have a specific reason to curate the dependency set yourself.

Write down the Minecraft version and loader you intend to run. A clear record such as “Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge 47.2.0” prevents a common mistake: downloading a 1.21.1 NeoForge file because its archive name looks identical. Give players this exact combination before they install their clients.
3. Download the dedicated server pack
- Open the Solo Leveling: Reawakening modpack’s CurseForge Files page.
- Find
Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.ziplisted under your chosen Minecraft version and loader. - Download that archive, not merely the client profile or an unrelated individual-mod file.
- Create a new, empty server directory and extract the archive into it. Keeping this installation separate from other Minecraft servers makes logs, worlds, and updates easier to identify.
The server-pack archive is the project’s dedicated self-hosting asset. If the Files page shows several revisions for the same combination, use the release your players will install and record its date or file version so everyone can stay on the same build.
4. Install the matching server loader
Install Forge for the 1.20.1 build or NeoForge for the 1.21.1 build; the loaders are not interchangeable. For Minecraft 1.20.1, use Forge 47.2.0 as listed by the project. Follow the loader installer’s server-install option and point it at the directory containing the extracted server pack. Technic’s official short guide likewise instructs administrators to download the Forge installer matching the client modpack version and run the server with an allocated Java memory value.
Do not install Forge into a NeoForge pack or NeoForge into a Forge pack. A loader mismatch can stop the process before the world opens, and replacing a loader in an existing world is not a routine update.

5. Use the documented Java and dependency versions
The 1.20.1 Forge build specifically requires Java 17 and lists GeckoLib 4.4.2. Verify the Java runtime used by the server process, not only the Java version shown by a desktop launcher. If the machine has multiple Java installations, configure the server start script or hosting panel to use Java 17.
GeckoLib must be available in the server’s mods directory at the required 4.4.2 version for this Forge build, and the same dependency must be present in each client profile. Do not substitute a similarly named library or assume that a newer release is compatible. For the 1.21.1 NeoForge release, follow the dependency versions bundled or listed for that specific pack; the documented 4.4.2 requirement applies to the 1.20.1 Forge combination.
6. Start the server once and complete the normal EULA step
- Launch the server from the loader-generated start script or the control provided by your host.
- Allow the first run to create configuration files, the world directory, and the EULA file.
- Read Minecraft’s EULA and, if you agree, change the generated EULA setting to accept it.
- Start the server again and watch the console for a completed startup message rather than closing the window immediately.
The project pages do not document a special Reawakening EULA process. This is the normal Minecraft server sequence; use the current loader and server-distribution instructions if their generated filenames or startup controls differ.
7. Select the appropriate world mode
When the mod presents its progression choice, select Regular World for an open server in which several friends should develop their characters independently. Story Mode currently follows one main story player, so it is organized around a designated protagonist rather than a group with separate progression. Decide this before inviting the group, because changing the mode later may require a new world or a carefully planned migration.
8. Configure access for your players
For a local group, give players the host’s local address and the server port shown by your configuration. For internet play, make the server reachable through the host machine’s firewall and router, then share the external address and port privately with trusted players. The exact address and port depend on your network; they are not specified by the project.

Do not expose administrative credentials in public chat. Grant operator-level access only to people who need it, and keep a copy of the server directory before changing permissions, world settings, or mod configuration.
9. Install an identical client profile
- Have every player install the same modpack release used by the server.
- Confirm the Minecraft version matches exactly: 1.20.1 clients join the 1.20.1 Forge server, while 1.21.1 clients join the 1.21.1 NeoForge server.
- Confirm the loader matches exactly, including Forge versus NeoForge.
- Confirm the same mod and dependency versions, including GeckoLib 4.4.2 for the 1.20.1 Forge build.
- Launch the profile once in single-player or the launcher’s test environment so missing files are downloaded before attempting to connect.
- Enter the server address only after the client reaches the multiplayer screen without loader or dependency errors.
The mod must be installed on the server and on every joining client. A vanilla client, a client using Fabric, or a client with a different pack release cannot join simply because it owns Minecraft Java Edition.
Using CurseForge Servers instead
CurseForge’s hosting guide describes a managed workflow for supported modpacks: choose a pack, select its matching server pack, choose a plan and region, and enter the server details. It states that the process requires no manual file uploads or port forwarding. The service is powered by Shockbyte.
- Open the CurseForge Servers setup flow and check that Solo Leveling: Reawakening is currently supported.
- Select the exact Minecraft version and loader represented by your clients.
- Choose the matching Reawakening server pack rather than a different release with a similar name.
- Select an available plan and region based on the current options shown to you.
- Enter the server name and other requested details, then complete deployment.
- Install the same modpack release on each player’s client and connect using the address supplied by the service.
Managed hosting removes the manual archive upload and router-port-forwarding steps, but it does not remove compatibility work. Every client still needs the same Minecraft version, loader, pack, and dependencies. Confirm current pricing, regional availability, supported versions, resource limits, backup options, and cancellation terms in the live service interface; the cited guide does not establish fixed prices or performance guarantees.

“Incompatible mod set” or a rejected connection
- Compare the Minecraft version on the server and client character for character.
- Compare Forge 47.2.0 against the 1.20.1 Forge client, or verify that both sides use the selected 1.21.1 NeoForge release.
- Check that both sides use the same modpack release and the same server-pack family.
- Check the complete mod list, not just the headline Reawakening mod. A missing library can produce the same connection failure as a wrong main mod.
Do not solve a mismatch by copying random files from another release. Reinstall the client profile or server pack from the same recorded release so the set becomes deterministic.

The server stops during startup
- Verify that the process is running on Java 17 for the 1.20.1 Forge build.
- Confirm Forge 47.2.0 is installed for Minecraft 1.20.1 and that a NeoForge installer was not used accidentally.
- Check that GeckoLib 4.4.2 is present in the server’s mods directory for the 1.20.1 Forge build.
- Read the first meaningful error in the log rather than the final cascade of shutdown messages.
- Move recently added, unverified mods out of the directory and test the unmodified server pack before adding anything else.
A player can open the pack but cannot join
First separate a mod problem from a network problem. If the client reports a version or mod mismatch, compare the profiles as described above. If the client times out without a compatibility message, test the server from the host machine, then from another device on the same local network. A local success with a remote failure points toward firewall, router, or address configuration rather than the Reawakening files.

Players are confused about progression
Regular World is the practical choice when several players need independent progression in a shared environment. Story Mode follows one designated story player, so other participants may not experience the narrative in the way they expect. Explain the choice before world creation and keep a backup before experimenting with a different mode.
An update damages or changes the world
The project is in active development and its author recommends backing up important worlds before updates, especially when crossing major versions. Stop the server cleanly, copy the entire world directory and relevant configuration files to storage outside the live server directory, and label the backup with the old Minecraft version, loader, modpack release, and date. Test a new release on a copy first; never use your only live save as the experiment.
Operating the server after launch
Backups and recovery
Schedule backups around your group’s play pattern, and keep more than one historical copy. A useful backup includes the world, server configuration, mod list, and any scripts or permissions files that define the installation. Before a major update, make an additional offline copy. To recover, stop the server, preserve the failed directory for diagnosis, restore the known-good copy, and start with the same version that created that backup.
Updating without creating a version tangle
- Record the currently working Minecraft version, loader, modpack release, Java runtime, and dependency versions.
- Read the new pack’s release notes and confirm that a server pack exists for the target combination.
- Back up the world and configuration before changing files.
- Install the new release in a separate test directory instead of overwriting the live server.
- Copy a backup world into the test directory and check startup, joins, and progression.
- Only after a successful test, schedule downtime, replace the live installation, and tell players which client profile to install.
Never let the server update automatically while clients remain on the old profile. A server and clients must move as one versioned set.

Capacity and player expectations
No authoritative player limit or performance benchmark is established for this project. Capacity depends on the host machine, allocated memory, processor load, storage speed, world activity, and network connection. Begin with the smallest group you can support reliably, monitor server logs and responsiveness, and expand resources only when measurements show a need. Do not promise a player count based on another modpack or a hosting plan’s headline specification.
Keep a written connection sheet
For a private group, maintain a short record containing the Minecraft version, loader, pack release, required Java version, dependency versions, server address, world mode, and backup location. When someone cannot connect, this checklist lets you compare facts instead of reinstalling everything blindly.
Which route should you choose?
Self-host the server when you are comfortable maintaining Java, loader files, backups, firewall rules, and versioned client profiles, and when direct control of the world matters. Use CurseForge Servers when you want the documented few-click deployment, an available region that suits your players, and no manual port forwarding. In either case, the non-negotiable rule is the same: select one supported Minecraft/loader pair and keep the server, server pack, dependencies, and every client on that exact combination.
