The Kingdom of Daldar server runs on Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. You can self-host it by unpacking the correct Modrinth .mrpack, installing the matching Forge server, copying the pack’s server files, and accepting Minecraft’s EULA. Allocate about 6 GB of RAM at minimum; 8 GB is a safer target for a group server. The exact pack release can change, so select the current compatible version in Modrinth’s Versions tab before you install anything.

Recommended Free Tools
- A computer or dedicated machine that can remain online while players connect.
- The same The Kingdom of Daldar release that your players will install from Modrinth.
- Minecraft 1.16.5 and the Forge build specified by that release.
- A Java runtime supported by the selected Forge 1.16.5 installer.
- At least 6 GB of memory available to the server process. Seven GB or more is a better starting point for several friends, and 8 GB gives more headroom for world generation and heavy mod activity.
- Permission to open the server port on the host and, for home hosting, on the router or firewall.
Those memory figures are practical hosting recommendations rather than an official requirement published by the pack’s creators. A community example uses a 12 GB machine with a 6G minimum and 10G maximum Java heap and four 4 GHz Intel Xeon threads for one to six players; treat that as an example configuration, not a guarantee.
Choose the correct pack and version
Use the Modrinth release, not a similarly named distribution
The Modrinth listing identifies the pack as a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5 and marks both client and server as supported. At the time of the information used for this guide, version 1.1.1 was the latest listing, while version 1.1.0 was available as an .mrpack. Version numbers and files can change, so open the pack’s Versions tab and record the exact release you intend to run.

Do not combine files from different releases. The client, the server’s configuration, and every mod must come from the same pack version. A client on one release connecting to a server on another commonly produces missing-mod, mixin, or registry errors.
Do not substitute the Technic listing
A Technic listing called The Kingdom of Daldar – Forge describes a different version of the pack. Its files and installation assumptions may not match the Modrinth release. If you are following the procedure below, download the Modrinth .mrpack and use the Minecraft and Forge versions recorded in its index.

Keep Daldar Redux separate
Daldar Redux is a separate pack, not an alternate server profile for the original pack. It includes mods that cannot run on a server and has a world-generation requirement of its own. The instructions in this article are for The Kingdom of Daldar; applying them to Redux can leave you with an unstartable server or a world generated with the wrong terrain settings.
Self-hosting the server from the Modrinth package
An .mrpack is a distributable archive that describes a modpack. It usually contains download links and configuration files rather than every mod jar, so a server installation involves both reading the index and downloading the server-side files.

1. Download the chosen .mrpack
- Open the selected release on Modrinth and download its
.mrpackfile. - Create an empty folder dedicated to the server. A short path such as
Daldar-servermakes logs and backup scripts easier to manage. - Keep the downloaded archive unchanged as a backup. Make a working copy if you need to inspect or extract it.
2. Inspect the pack index
- Because an
.mrpackis a ZIP archive, rename a copy from.mrpackto.zipor open it with an archive utility. - Open
modrinth.index.json. - Record the Minecraft version and Forge version shown in the index. For the current Modrinth line described here, Minecraft is 1.16.5; the Forge build must still be the one specified by the particular release.
- Review the file entries and note which mods are flagged as client-only. Those entries should not be placed in a dedicated server’s
modsdirectory.
Do not infer a Forge build from another guide. The index is the pack’s compatibility record, and a minor loader mismatch can prevent startup even when the Minecraft version is correct.
3. Install Forge for the matching Minecraft version
- Download the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.16.5 and the build recorded in
modrinth.index.json. - Run the installer with its server-install option and choose the empty server folder you created.
- Let Forge place its libraries and launch files in that folder. The installer interface and launch-file names can vary by Forge build, so follow the labels shown by the installer rather than copying a command intended for another release.
The Forge installer step must use the exact Minecraft and Forge pair from the pack index. Installing a newer Forge build merely because it is available can cause loader or mixin failures.
4. Populate the mods and configuration files
- From the unpacked pack, copy the server-side mod files into the server folder’s
mods/directory. Skip entries marked client-only. - The index contains links for the mod files; the archive does not necessarily contain the jars themselves. Download each required server-side file from the location specified by the index.
- Copy everything inside the pack’s
overrides/folder into the server folder, preserving subfolders and filenames. - If the archive contains
server-overrides/, copy its contents into the server folder as well. If it is absent, there is nothing to copy. - Do not overwrite the loader’s libraries or launch files with files from a different pack or Forge installation.
Preserving the directory structure matters. A configuration file copied into the wrong level can be silently ignored, while a missing data or script file may only become apparent when a player reaches the affected area.
5. Start Forge once and accept the EULA
- Use the Forge-generated server launch file for your installation and start it from the server folder.
- On the first run, the process normally stops after creating initial files and an
eula.txtfile. - Open
eula.txt, read Minecraft’s EULA, and change the setting toeula=trueonly if you agree to it. - Start the server again and wait for a log message indicating that the server has finished loading. The first launch can take longer while Forge creates libraries, configurations, and the world.
Keep the first generated world as a test until a client can join successfully. If startup stops with an error, fix that error before inviting players or copying a valuable existing world.

6. Match the client installation
Every player needs the same The Kingdom of Daldar release, Minecraft 1.16.5, and compatible Forge setup on the client. A server can be online and healthy while a player is rejected because that player’s mod list, configuration, or pack version differs. Have players install the release from the same Modrinth version page you selected, then use the server address and port shown by your hosting setup.
Memory, CPU, and storage planning
Practical RAM targets
| Use case | Starting allocation | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Small private test | About 6 GB | A minimum-oriented host recommendation; leave additional memory for the operating system and background services. |
| Several friends or a public server | 7 GB or more | Provides more room for concurrent players and chunk loading than the minimum recommendation. |
| More stable general target | 8 GB | A safer allocation when the server reports memory pressure or when exploration generates many new chunks. |
| Community example for 1–6 players | 12 GB machine; Java heap 6G minimum and 10G maximum | An example paired with four 4 GHz Intel Xeon threads. It is not an official specification for the pack. |
Do not give the Java process every gigabyte on the machine. The operating system, Forge libraries, file cache, and any monitoring tools need memory outside the configured heap. If the machine has 8 GB total, allocating an 8 GB heap can make the host swap or kill the process; leave a margin.
CPU and disk considerations
The available guidance does not establish an official processor requirement. In practice, world generation and mod logic are sensitive to single-thread performance, while more players also increase total work. Use a machine with adequate cooling and a fast, reliable disk, and watch the server log during exploration rather than assuming a higher core count alone will remove lag.
Reserve enough disk space for the world, backups, logs, and future chunk generation. The pack’s documentation does not state a fixed storage number, so monitor the actual world-folder growth and set a backup-retention limit that your disk can sustain.

Networking and first connection test
- Start the server and confirm that it binds to the intended network interface and port.
- On a home network, allow the Java server through the operating system firewall and forward the configured port on the router if players are connecting from outside your home.
- Test locally first. Join using the host machine’s local address before troubleshooting public connectivity.
- Have a player on the same network connect, then test from an external connection. This separates mod or Forge errors from router and firewall problems.
- Keep the server’s address private when possible. Give players only the address and port they need, and use an allowlist if your server is not intended to be public.
The pack listing confirms client-and-server support, but it does not promise uptime, bandwidth, DDoS mitigation, or a particular network configuration. Those properties depend on the machine and network you choose.
Hosted one-click installation
If you do not want to maintain Java, Forge files, port forwarding, backups, and operating-system updates, a managed host can be simpler. BisectHosting, Zap-Hosting, Mado Hosting, Ouiheberg, ScaleCube, and StickyPiston have listed The Kingdom of Daldar as a one-click install option. In a typical panel, you select the pack and the available version, click Install, and let the host create the Forge instance.
Provider catalogs are volatile: the listed pack release, available regions, memory plans, and price can change. Verify that the panel offers the exact Modrinth release and Minecraft 1.16.5 before paying or migrating a world. No fixed price or uptime figure is established here.
| Factor | Self-hosting | Managed one-click host |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Uses your existing hardware and electricity; additional network or hardware costs are yours. | Recurring fee set by the provider and plan; current prices vary. |
| Setup effort | You install Forge, assemble server files, accept the EULA, configure networking, and maintain updates. | The panel automates much of the installation; you still choose the correct pack release and configure the server. |
| Control | Full access to mods, files, Java settings, backups, and version changes. | Usually offers file and console access, but available Java settings, versions, and mod changes depend on the provider. |
| Availability and protection | Depends on your power, internet connection, firewall, and maintenance. | Depends on the provider’s infrastructure and plan; uptime and DDoS protection were not established for these listings. |
Whichever route you choose, download your own world and configuration backups. A panel installation is convenient, but it does not remove the need to preserve a recoverable copy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting common failures
OutOfMemoryError in latest.log
Increase the server allocation to at least 8 GB if the machine has enough physical memory, then restart and observe whether the error returns. Check that you did not allocate the entire machine to Java, and close unrelated applications. Repeated memory errors after increasing the allocation can indicate a mismatched or duplicated mod rather than a simple shortage.

Mixin or ClassNotFoundException errors
These messages usually point to a loader, Minecraft, Forge, or pack-version mismatch. Recheck the Minecraft and Forge values in modrinth.index.json, confirm that the client and server use the same pack release, remove client-only mods from the server, and rebuild the mods directory from that release instead of mixing jars from another installation.
The server starts but players cannot join
- Confirm that the server process has completed startup rather than stopping at the EULA stage.
- Check that the player selected Minecraft 1.16.5, the correct Forge build, and the same pack release.
- Test from the host machine or local network first. If local joining works but outside joining fails, inspect the firewall, router forwarding, and public address.
- Read the client log as well as the server log; the client often identifies a missing mod or registry mismatch more clearly.
Long pauses and tick lag
- Set
view-distance=8inserver.propertiesas a conservative first adjustment. - Pregenerate the intended play area with the Chunky mod so exploration does not force the server to create every chunk while players are moving.
- Run
/spark profilerduring a reproducible lag episode to identify expensive mods or tasks. - Apply one change at a time and compare the log and player experience after each restart.
Reducing view distance lowers the amount of terrain each player keeps active, while pregeneration moves the most expensive world-generation work to a controlled maintenance period. Profiling is preferable to randomly removing mods because it shows where the server is spending time.
World-generation problems with Redux
If you intentionally install Daldar Redux, set level-type=terraforged in server.properties before the first world is generated. This setting belongs to Redux’s separate setup and should not be added merely because you are running The Kingdom of Daldar. Changing the level type after a world already exists will not retroactively regenerate its terrain; make a backup before experimenting.
Safe update and backup routine
- Stop the server cleanly from its console before copying files.
- Back up the entire world directory,
server.properties, theconfig/folder, scripts, and any custom permissions or allowlists. - Record the current pack, Minecraft, and Forge versions in the backup name.
- For an update, create a separate test directory, install the new Forge build, and assemble the new release from its own
.mrpackindex. - Copy the backed-up world only after the new server reaches a clean startup with a fresh test world.
- Have at least one player test joining, commands, dimensions, and a representative mod feature before replacing the live instance.
This staged approach gives you a rollback path if a new release changes configuration or world data. Never delete the previous server directory until the new installation and its backup have been verified.
Recommended installation checklist
- Selected the current release from Modrinth’s Versions tab.
- Confirmed Minecraft 1.16.5 and the exact Forge build in
modrinth.index.json. - Installed Forge with its server option in a clean folder.
- Downloaded server-side mods and omitted client-only entries.
- Copied
overrides/and, when present,server-overrides/. - Started once, set
eula=trueafter accepting the EULA, and started again. - Allocated about 6 GB for a small test, 7 GB or more for a group, or 8 GB when stability is the priority.
- Tested a local connection before configuring public access.
- Created a backup before inviting players and before every pack or Forge update.
- Kept The Kingdom of Daldar, Daldar Redux, and the Technic distribution in separate installations.
Bottom line
For the Modrinth edition, build the server around Minecraft 1.16.5 and the Forge version written in the selected .mrpack. Install Forge separately, copy only server-compatible files plus the pack overrides, and start with roughly 6–8 GB of RAM. Use 8 GB when you are addressing memory errors or planning for heavier exploration. A one-click host can remove the operating-system and networking work, but you still need to verify the exact pack release, maintain backups, and keep every player’s client on the same version.
