To host Trivia Murder Party 3, run the standalone game on one screen, show that screen to everyone, and have each player open Jackbox.tv on a phone, tablet, computer, or other web-enabled device. Players enter the four-letter room code shown by the game; the host can then include people in the same room, remote friends on a video call, or both.
What you need before the game starts
The host supplies the game and the screen on which it runs. Everyone else supplies a browser-enabled device to use as a controller. The official product listing describes Trivia Murder Party 3 as a standalone digital game, so check the platform’s current store listing, supported system requirements, and account requirements before buying or launching it. Availability and requirements can change while the game is in Early Access.

- A host copy of the game: Install and launch the game on the platform you intend to use for the session.
- A shared game screen: Players must be able to see the game screen, either in the same room or through a live screen share.
- One web-enabled device per player: Phones, tablets, computers, and similar devices can act as controllers. A dedicated gamepad is not part of the published setup.
- A way to communicate: People in the same room can talk normally. A remote group needs a voice or video call in addition to the game screen.
- Up to eight players: The current product page lists a player range of one to eight. Do not plan the active player roster above eight unless a later product update changes that limit.
The product page also lists a 20-minute duration. Treat that as the publisher’s estimate for the game, not a guaranteed start-to-finish appointment: joining, explaining the rules, switching players, and dealing with connection issues can make the whole gathering longer.

Trivia Murder Party 3 supports traditional local room-code play and online matchmaking. Remote groups commonly combine the game with a video call so everyone can see the host’s screen and hear one another. The publisher’s online-play FAQ specifically names Discord, Zoom, and Google Meet as examples that should support this style of play.

| Format | Where players are | How the game screen is delivered | What players use as controllers | Subscription note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Local room-code game | Everyone is with the host | One television, monitor, or other shared display | Each person’s own browser-enabled device | The publisher does not describe an additional subscription for the game’s own matchmaking; platform rules still apply where relevant |
| Remote game | Players are in different locations | The host shares the game screen in a video call | Each remote player opens Jackbox.tv in a browser | The game’s matchmaking has no separate subscription according to the publisher FAQ; a console’s online-service subscription may still be required |
| Mixed group | Some people are beside the host and others are remote | People in the room watch the physical display; remote players watch the shared screen | Everyone joins with a personal browser-enabled device | The same platform-subscription caveat applies to the host’s console |
Use local play when everyone can comfortably see and hear the same display. Use a call and screen share when anyone is remote. A mixed session does not require a separate game for remote participants: people in the room and people joining online can be part of the same group.
How to host a local game
1. Install and launch the host copy
Open the platform store or library where you obtained the standalone digital game, install any required update, and launch Trivia Murder Party 3. Verify that the display you are using is visible from the seats where players will sit. If the platform shows a first-run prompt, complete it before inviting everyone to join.
2. Start a game session
Choose the game’s option to begin a session. The game will present a four-letter room code on the main display. Keep this screen visible while people connect; the code is the information they need to enter the room.

3. Have every player open the controller page
Each person should open a browser on their own phone, tablet, computer, or other web-enabled device and go to Jackbox.tv. The device is a controller only; it does not replace the screen running the game.
4. Enter the code and a player name
Players type the four-letter code shown on the game screen into Jackbox.tv and follow the on-screen joining prompts. They should choose a name that the host can recognize. A successful join normally becomes visible in the game’s player lobby.

5. Confirm the roster before starting
Wait until everyone who intends to play appears in the lobby. The published limit is eight players, so an eighth person fills the listed player capacity. If someone is only watching, do not assume that person can join as an active player without checking what the current version offers.
6. Begin play from the host screen
Once the roster is correct, use the game’s host controls to start. Keep the display and players’ controller devices available throughout the session; prompts and answers are delivered through the individual devices while the shared screen shows the communal game state.

Joining from a phone or tablet
- Open the device’s web browser.
- Go to Jackbox.tv.
- Enter the four-letter room code displayed on the host’s game screen.
- Complete the name or joining prompt shown in the browser.
- Wait for your name to appear in the host’s lobby before putting the device down.
The phone or tablet functions as the player’s controller. Friends do not need a second copy of the game on their devices, and the published setup does not call for a dedicated physical controller.
Joining from a computer
A computer works the same way: open a browser, visit Jackbox.tv, and enter the code from the game display. If a remote player is already in a video call on that computer, they can use a separate browser tab or window for the controller page. The game itself remains on the host’s platform.
Joining from a remote location
- Join the host’s Discord, Zoom, Google Meet, or another video call arranged for the session.
- Watch the shared game screen for the four-letter room code.
- Open Jackbox.tv on your own browser-enabled device.
- Enter the code and join the lobby.
- Keep the call open for spoken discussion while using the browser device for game prompts.
The publisher says the named video applications should support playing over video like previous Jackbox Games. It does not publish a separate, app-by-app configuration guide, so the host should test screen sharing and audio before inviting the full group.

How to host a remote or mixed session
Remote-only setup
Launch the game first, then start the video call and share the window or display that contains the game. Ask players to keep the shared game image large enough to read the room code and prompts. Once everyone has joined Jackbox.tv, begin from the host’s game controls.

Players should use the call for conversation and the browser device for input. This division prevents a player from losing the controller page while switching between chat controls and game prompts. If a participant has only one small screen, they can still join with that device’s browser while watching the shared game image in the call, but a second screen can make the arrangement easier to follow.
Mixed local-and-remote setup
People beside the host join Jackbox.tv exactly as local players do. Remote friends join through the call and enter the same room code. There is no separate local lobby and online lobby in the published description: the publisher explicitly says local players can join an online group with remote players.
Place the host’s microphone so remote players can hear the room without creating a loud feedback loop. Everyone in the room should watch the physical display, while remote participants watch the shared version. Ask local players to avoid reading answers aloud while remote players are still waiting for the same prompt.
Managing a larger audience
The official product page lists one to eight players. It also displays an “Audience Capacity 10,000” figure, but the page does not explain how that audience feature works specifically in Trivia Murder Party 3. Do not use that number as a promise that thousands of people can participate in the game’s active rounds. For a normal hosted game, plan around the confirmed eight-player limit.

Do you need a subscription?
Jackbox Games’ online-play FAQ, dated June 3, 2025, says that players do not need a separate subscription for online matchmaking within the game after purchase. The same answer immediately qualifies that statement: console players may still need a subscription required by their console platform’s online services.
That means two different policies can apply:
- Game-level matchmaking: The publisher says it does not add its own subscription requirement.
- Platform-level online access: A console manufacturer or platform operator may require its own online-service subscription, depending on the console and account being used.
Check the current platform store and account terms before the event, especially if the host is using a console. The browser devices used by players are controllers; they do not eliminate a platform requirement attached to the host’s game system.
Host checklist for a smoother session
- Launch the game before the scheduled start time and confirm that the room-code screen appears.
- Place the game display where everyone in the room can read it without standing up.
- For remote play, test the video call’s screen share and microphone before sending the room code.
- Tell players to use their own browser-enabled device and to keep that device charged.
- Keep the four-letter code visible while people join, then verify every name in the lobby.
- Stop accepting new players once the eight-player limit is reached.
- Agree on a recognizable player name for each participant so the host can identify answers and prompts.
- For a mixed group, ask local participants to keep side conversations low enough for remote players to hear the call.
- Remind everyone that the game screen and controller screen have different jobs: the host display shows the shared action, while each player’s browser receives individual input prompts.
Troubleshooting common joining problems
The room code is missing or players cannot read it
Return attention to the host’s game display and make sure the session has actually started. In a remote game, confirm that the correct window or monitor is being shared rather than a desktop, menu, or unrelated application. Ask players to enter the current four-letter code exactly as shown; a new session or restart can produce a different code.
A player cannot open the controller page
Have the player open Jackbox.tv in a current browser on another web-enabled device if one is available. Check that the device is connected to the internet and that the player is entering the code shown by the host rather than an older code from a previous session. If the browser page loads but the name never appears in the lobby, leave and re-enter the code once the host confirms the session is still waiting for players.

The host needs to share the display or window where the game is running, not merely join the call. Stop and restart screen sharing if the wrong source was selected, then ask a remote player to confirm that the code and game image are visible. Keep the shared image large enough that text and prompts remain legible.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
The room has audio echo
Echo usually comes from the same call audio being played through multiple nearby microphones and speakers. As a practical fix, have all but one nearby device mute its microphone, use headphones on individual devices, or move extra devices away from the host’s speakers. Keep at least one clear microphone active so remote players can hear the room.
More than eight people want to play
The current product page lists a maximum of eight players. Do not add a ninth active player by assuming the audience figure is an additional player allowance. Decide in advance who will play, and rotate people between rounds only if the current game version provides a way to do so.
The console asks for an online subscription
That prompt may come from the console platform rather than the game’s own matchmaking. The publisher’s FAQ says no separate subscription is needed inside the game, while also warning that a console platform’s online-service subscription may still be required. Check the host platform’s current account terms instead of treating the two requirements as interchangeable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe game behaves differently from these instructions
The official product page currently labels Trivia Murder Party 3 as Early Access and says it is out in Early Access. Menus, platform support, matchmaking behavior, pricing, and system requirements can change as development continues. If a current menu or store requirement differs, follow the version-specific instructions shown by the game and platform.
A simple 10-minute preflight plan
- Before guests arrive: Launch the game, confirm the host display, and check for updates or platform prompts.
- When remote guests join: Open the video call, enable screen sharing, and ask one person to confirm that the game image and sound are understandable.
- When the lobby opens: Show the room code, have every player visit Jackbox.tv, and wait for each name to appear.
- Before pressing start: Count the names, verify that no more than eight people are active, and make sure every player has a working controller page.
- During play: Leave the host display visible, keep the call available for conversation, and ask players to use their browser devices for their individual prompts.
This sequence separates the three things that commonly cause confusion—launching the game, sharing the display, and connecting controllers—so you can identify which part needs attention before the first round begins.
