Host TWD 2.5 as an archived Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge installation, using the dedicated TWD 2.5 Server Pack rather than copying a client folder. The cited release uses Forge 36.2.31, requires every player to run the identical pack version, and needs Java, an accepted EULA, a configured server, and network access before friends outside your home can join.

Identify the exact TWD 2.5 release first
TWD 2.5 is not a generic label that can be paired with any recent Minecraft installation. The cited project release is an archived Minecraft 1.16.5 pack built for Forge. CurseForge lists the latest cited release as published on March 15, 2022, with a separate file named TWD 2.5 Server Pack. That server file is listed at 258.95 MB. CurseForge reported 87,512 total downloads in 2022; that number is historical and does not indicate current compatibility.
| Item | Value to match | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.16.5 | A different Minecraft version will not load the same mod set reliably. |
| Mod loader | Forge | The server and every client need the Forge-based distribution. |
| Forge build identified for this pack | 36.2.31 | Pinning the same build avoids loader and registry mismatches. |
| Dedicated server file | TWD 2.5 Server Pack, 258.95 MB listing | This is the matched server distribution; it is not interchangeable with an ordinary client installation. |
| Release date | March 15, 2022 | Treat the pack as an archived release and do not assume support for newer Minecraft, Java, or hosting environments. |
Write down the exact TWD 2.5 file name and Forge build before installing anything. Every player should select that same client release. Do not update one computer to a newer file while the server remains on the 2022 release.

What you need before installation
Server computer or virtual machine
Use a machine that can remain powered on for the hours your group plays. Leave free storage for the server files, Forge libraries, logs, backups, and a rapidly growing city world. A desktop on the same home network is sufficient for a small private group, but sleep mode, changing local addresses, and consumer upload limits can interrupt play.
Java and operating-system access
Minecraft Java Edition requires a compatible Java Runtime Environment. Install Java before the first Forge launch and confirm that the command is available in a terminal or command prompt with java -version. Keep the Java installation consistent while troubleshooting; changing runtimes at the same time as changing mods makes crash causes difficult to isolate.
Network control
For players on the same home network, the server’s private IPv4 address is normally enough. Internet players require an allowed Java process in the host firewall and a router rule forwarding the server port to the computer running Forge. The default Java server port is 25565, unless you change server.properties.
Matched client files
Each player needs the identical Minecraft 1.16.5 TWD 2.5 client release and Forge build. The pack description also says that OptiFine is required for the zombie and some other textures to work properly. Install the OptiFine version intended for this 1.16.5 pack on each client, following the pack’s distribution instructions, rather than dropping an unrelated modern OptiFine file into the instance.
Install the dedicated server pack
1. Freeze and verify the files
- Record the TWD 2.5 release shown by the project page, Minecraft 1.16.5, and Forge 36.2.31.
- Download the file explicitly labeled TWD 2.5 Server Pack. Do not assemble a server by downloading individual mods from the client’s mods folder.
- Keep the pack’s manifest, overrides, configuration files, libraries, and server-pack contents together. Mixing files from another TWD release can produce missing registries, duplicate mods, or a world that generates incorrectly.
2. Create a clean server directory
Make a new directory dedicated to this server, such as TWD25-server. Extract the server-pack archive directly into that directory. Do not extract over an existing Forge world or another modpack. Before generating a permanent world, confirm that the directory has enough free disk space for the archive, generated terrain, logs, and at least one local backup.
3. Start Forge once
From the server directory, run the Forge 1.16.5 server launcher supplied by the pack. A typical command is:
The Tool Desk

The launcher filename can differ if the server pack supplies a wrapper or generated startup script, so use the file included with the distribution. The first run normally creates libraries and configuration files and then stops when the Minecraft EULA has not yet been accepted.
4. Accept the EULA correctly
Read the Minecraft EULA, then open the eula.txt file created in the server directory. Change only the acceptance line to:
eula=true
Save the file and run the same Forge startup command again. Forge documentation notes that the server shuts down after its first run until this file is edited. If the server keeps reporting an EULA error, check that you edited the eula.txt in the active server directory, that the file is not read-only, and that the line is exactly eula=true rather than a quoted or misspelled value.
Configure server.properties before inviting players
Stop the server cleanly with stop in the console, then edit server.properties. Values are read at the next start. Keep a copy of the original file so you can recover from an accidental setting change.
| Setting | Purpose | Practical starting choice |
|---|---|---|
difficulty |
Controls hostile-mob and survival difficulty. | Choose the difficulty your group expects; the apocalypse theme generally suits a survival setting. |
max-players |
Sets the connection limit. | Set it to the actual group size rather than advertising a capacity the machine cannot sustain. |
pvp |
Enables or disables player-versus-player damage. | Use false for cooperative groups that do not want accidental friendly fire. |
motd |
Text shown in the multiplayer list. | Identify the TWD 2.5 release and any house rules. |
view-distance |
Server-side chunk send distance. | Start conservatively and raise it only while tick time remains healthy. |
simulation-distance |
Distance at which entities and game logic are simulated. | Lower this before adding memory if mobs or redstone cause tick delays. |
white-list |
Restricts joins to approved accounts. | Enable it for a private friend group and add players with the console whitelist commands. |
server-port |
TCP port used by the Java server. | Leave the default 25565 unless another service already uses it; forward the same number in your router. |
Do not generate the final world until you have decided on the name, whitelist policy, and distance settings. Changing world-generation options after the first world is created does not remodel already generated chunks.
Create the TWD 2.5 apocalypse world
The pack description calls for a specific setup: Biomes O’ Plenty world generation, the Cities control set to Apocalypse, and cheats enabled during world creation. Those choices are part of the intended scenario rather than optional cosmetic tweaks.

Use the pack’s world-creation controls
- Open the TWD 2.5 client with the same release and Forge build as the server.
- Start a new world using the pack’s world-creation screen.
- Select Biomes O’ Plenty as the world type.
- Open the pack’s Cities control and choose Apocalypse.
- Enable cheats during creation, as the pack description directs.
- Confirm the world generates without missing-mod errors, then close the client.
If your server-pack documentation exposes equivalent options through server configuration instead of a graphical creation screen, use those supplied settings before the first permanent start. Another workable approach is to create the matching world in the client and copy its complete world directory into the server directory before setting the server to use that world. Never combine a world generated with different biome or city settings and expect existing terrain to change.
Understand the pack’s portal rules
The description says there are no ordinary Nether portals. Travel is handled through YUNG’S Better Portals, so players should not plan a vanilla obsidian-portal network. Explain this to the group before they begin building routes, and keep the relevant portal mod enabled on both server and clients.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsInstall and verify the client side
Have each player install the exact TWD 2.5 client file corresponding to the server. The following checks prevent most “incompatible modded server” disconnects:
- The Minecraft version is 1.16.5.
- The Forge build is 36.2.31, or the exact build shown by the selected pack file.
- The mod list and configuration files come from the same TWD 2.5 release.
- OptiFine is present where required for the pack’s zombie and other textures.
- No player has added a newer replacement for a core library or removed a server-required mod.
Ask a player to connect locally before distributing the address to everyone. A client that cannot join on the host computer is a mod or server problem, not a port-forwarding problem.
Open the server to friends safely
Test in three layers
- Local test: On the host computer, connect to
localhostor the host’s local address. Watch the server console for a successful login. - LAN test: From another device on the same router, connect to the host’s private IPv4 address and port. This confirms that Forge is listening and the local firewall permits it.
- Outside test: Have a friend on a different network connect using your public address and the forwarded port. Do not use the private address for an Internet player.
Configure the host firewall
Allow the Java executable used by Forge on the network profiles you actually use. If your operating system asks whether to permit private and public networks, select the narrowest profile that still matches your setup. A firewall rule for an old Java installation does not necessarily apply to the runtime that launches the server.
Forward the port
- Give the server computer a stable local address, preferably with a DHCP reservation in the router.
- Create a port-forwarding rule for TCP
25565(or your chosenserver-port) to that local address. - Restart the router rule if necessary, then test from a genuinely external network.
- Share the public address only with trusted players; keep the whitelist enabled for a private world.
If external testing fails while LAN connections work, check the router’s forwarding target, the host firewall, and whether your Internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. CGNAT can prevent inbound forwarding even when the router interface appears correctly configured; in that case, ask the provider about a public IPv4 address or use a managed hosting service.

Capacity planning: what hardware does TWD 2.5 need?
A provider-specific listing for this pack gives a baseline of 4,500 MB RAM, four CPU cores at 4.5 GHz, and 40 GB SSD. Those are minimum figures from that provider’s current product listing, not a guaranteed player count or a universal requirement. Treat them as a starting reference for a hosted instance.
| Resource | Provider-listed baseline | What increases demand |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | 4,500 MB | More players, larger explored areas, mobs, automation, and simultaneous chunk generation. |
| CPU | 4 cores at 4.5 GHz | New-city generation, hostile-mob activity, redstone or automation, and players exploring separate regions. |
| Storage | 40 GB SSD | World growth, logs, Forge libraries, crash reports, and multiple backups. |
Monitor actual behavior instead of promising a fixed capacity. Rising tick time, delayed mob movement, rubber-banding, and a console that falls behind real time indicate CPU or world-generation pressure. A server that reaches its memory limit may produce garbage-collection pauses or crash while generating new terrain.
Reduce load before buying more resources
- Lower
view-distanceandsimulation-distancegradually and retest. - Ask players to explore in groups when a new city or region is being generated.
- Do not pregenerate terrain unless the pack and the chosen tooling explicitly support it; pregeneration itself can create a long, heavy workload.
- Remove incompatible decorative or performance mods only after confirming that the pack allows the change on both server and clients.
- Increase RAM after observing sustained usage, not merely because a host advertises a larger plan.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting avoids a recurring provider bill and gives you direct control over the files, whitelist, backups, firewall, and upgrade timing. The trade-off is that your computer, network, and power must remain available whenever friends want to play, and you are responsible for every update and recovery.
Managed hosting can remove installation and uptime work. One provider advertises one-click installation for TWD 2.5, while another describes selecting Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge, checking out with a Minecraft plan, and receiving a built server. Treat those descriptions as provider-specific offerings, not proof that every host supports this archived pack.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Consideration | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, unpack the server pack, configure Forge, EULA, firewall, and router. | Often reduced to selecting a pack or uploading the server files. |
| Recurring cost | No hosting fee, but you pay electricity and maintain the machine. | Monthly plan cost; prices and availability change. |
| Control | Full access to files, backups, whitelist, and upgrade timing. | Depends on the provider’s panel and mod-upload permissions. |
| Uptime | Limited by your PC, power, and home Internet connection. | Provider infrastructure can keep the server online while your PC is off. |
| Networking | You handle firewall rules, port forwarding, and possible CGNAT issues. | The provider supplies a public endpoint; you still manage player access. |
| Version pinning | You can retain the exact 2022 pack and Forge files. | Confirm that the host lets you pin and export that exact release. |
| Backups and restore | You choose schedules and keep offline copies. | Check retention, restore controls, and whether world exports are allowed. |
Before purchasing a managed plan, ask whether it supports the exact TWD 2.5 server-pack file, Java runtime, Forge 36.2.31, storage requirement, player limit, mod uploads, backups, and export. Do not assume a one-click option will preserve an archived 1.16.5 release.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Backups and routine operation
Make safe backups
- Use the console
save-allcommand before a backup. - Stop the server with
stopand wait for the process to exit. - Copy the complete world directory,
server.properties, whitelist files, and pack configuration to a separate disk. - Keep at least one offline or otherwise isolated copy so a disk failure, mistaken deletion, or corrupted update cannot destroy every backup.
Back up before changing mods, Forge files, Java versions, or world-generation settings. A backup made while the server is writing region files may be incomplete.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Watch the right signals
- Console errors that repeat during chunk generation or entity ticking.
- Memory use and garbage-collection pauses.
- Tick time, player latency, and delayed block or mob updates.
- Disk growth from region files, logs, and crash reports.
- Whether players are spreading into many new cities at once.
Stop cleanly before maintenance. Never kill the Java process during an active save unless the server is already unresponsive and you have accepted the risk of world corruption.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server stops immediately and mentions the EULA
Open the eula.txt in the directory from which the Forge launcher is running, set eula=true after reading the EULA, save it, and start the same launcher again. Editing a similarly named file in a parent folder will not satisfy the active server.

Compare the server’s TWD 2.5 file, Minecraft 1.16.5 version, Forge 36.2.31 build, and mod/config contents with the client. Do not copy a normal client folder over the server pack. Replace the client with a clean installation of the exact release instead of deleting random mods until the error disappears.
LAN works but Internet connections fail
Confirm that the server is listening on the port in server.properties, Java is allowed through the firewall, the router forwards that same port to the host’s current local address, and the outside tester is not using the private LAN address. If all settings are correct, investigate CGNAT or an ISP policy that blocks inbound connections.
The world lacks the intended cities or biomes
Stop before more exploration, restore the pre-generation backup if one exists, and verify that Biomes O’ Plenty, Cities: Apocalypse, and cheats were selected during world creation. Changing the setting after chunks exist will not regenerate those chunks. Generate a new correctly configured world rather than trying to repair a mixed-generation map.
Textures are missing or zombies look wrong
Check the pack’s OptiFine requirement on every client and make sure the installed OptiFine build matches Minecraft 1.16.5. The server does not fix a client-side texture installation, so compare the affected player’s instance with a clean pack install.

The server lags when players spread out
Separate exploration creates simultaneous chunk-generation work. Lower view and simulation distance, ask players to avoid opening several unexplored cities at once, and inspect CPU and memory usage. Add resources only after identifying which limit is being reached; more RAM alone will not cure a CPU-bound tick loop.
Final decision
For the most predictable TWD 2.5 server, freeze the March 15, 2022 Minecraft 1.16.5/Forge release, install the dedicated server pack, accept the EULA, configure properties and backups, create the Biomes O’ Plenty Apocalypse world, and test access locally before forwarding port 25565. Self-host when you want complete control and can keep a machine online. Choose managed hosting when uptime and network setup matter more than avoiding a recurring fee, but verify that the provider can pin and preserve this archived Forge pack before paying.
