The dependable way to host Verdant Idea is to run the Verdant-Idea-Server-0.9.3.zip server pack for Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1, then install the identical 0.9.3 client profile for every player. A one-click modded host handles installation and networking for you; self-hosting on a PC or VPS gives you more control but requires Java, firewall and backup work.

Verdant Idea 0.9.3 is currently the reference release: it is marked Beta, was uploaded on July 12, 2026, and the server pack is about 173.6 MB. Check the CurseForge Files tab immediately before setup because cached pages can still show 0.9.2 or 0.9 as “Latest release.”

What you need before creating the server

Verdant Idea is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. It is inspired by Regrowth and begins in an empty world, so world generation and automation can become more demanding as a shared save develops. Server and client versions must match exactly; a player running a different pack release should expect a connection rejection or missing-mod errors.

Use the current pack file

At the time of writing, use Verdant Idea 0.9.3, marked Beta on its CurseForge file page. The corresponding server download is Verdant-Idea-Server-0.9.3.zip (about 173.6 MB). No 0.10 Alpha file was found in the available listings, so do not install an assumed 0.10 build. Open the project’s Files tab and verify the release number if a newer file has appeared since this guide was written.

Minecraft - Nintendo Switch
  • Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
  • Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
  • Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
  • Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
  • Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only

Hardware and software baseline

  • Java: Java 17 for a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server. Java 21 is relevant to Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer, not this pack.
  • Memory: 5,000 MB is a vendor-published minimum from CreeperHost. A Game Host Bros plan recommends starting at 16 GB for modpack performance; that is a provider suggestion rather than a guaranteed requirement for every world.
  • CPU: CreeperHost lists 2 × 4.5 GHz as a minimum specification. Clock speed alone does not predict tick performance, so favor a recent, strong single-thread CPU when choosing a VPS or host.
  • Storage: CreeperHost lists 15 GB SSD minimum. The compressed server pack is only about 173.6 MB, but the Forge installation, logs, backups and an expanding world require substantially more working space.
  • Network: The host must allow inbound Minecraft traffic, and the person running the server needs permission to change firewall or port-forwarding rules.

The figures above are provider-published guidance, not a Verdant Idea benchmark. Treat 5 GB as a floor for a small, lightly explored world, and leave headroom for additional players, chunks and backups.

Choose one-click hosting or self-hosting

Approach Setup effort Control Best for Important limitation
One-click modpack host Lowest; the panel installs the pack Panel settings, with SFTP or FTP on some services Players who want to start quickly without managing Java or networking Ongoing subscription; exact resources and update workflow depend on the provider
Self-hosted PC Highest; install, firewall, port forwarding and backups are yours Full access to files, JVM settings and operating system Owners of an always-on machine with a reliable connection Your upload speed, power availability and maintenance determine uptime
Self-hosted VPS Manual installation, but no home-router configuration Root access and predictable server environment Administrators who want control without keeping a home PC online Monthly infrastructure cost and responsibility for security and backups

For a first world, one-click hosting is usually the fastest route. Self-host when file-level control, custom configuration or avoiding a managed-host subscription matters more than convenience.

Set up a one-click Verdant Idea server

Managed hosts use different panels, but the sequence is consistent: select the exact pack release, let the provider install the server, start it, and have each player install the same release in the CurseForge launcher.

Akliz

  1. Create a new server in the Akliz Command Center.
  2. Select Verdant Idea and choose the same version you intend to use on clients, currently 0.9.3 unless the Files tab shows a newer release.
  3. Start the server and wait for the panel to finish provisioning.
  4. In the CurseForge launcher, install the matching Verdant Idea version, launch Minecraft, and connect using the address shown by the panel.

Akliz describes this as requiring no manual uploads or file editing.

  • Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
  • Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
  • Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more

CreeperHost

Choose a plan with at least the published 5,000 MB RAM, 2 × 4.5 GHz CPU and 15 GB SSD minimums. The provider recommends its Premium tier for modded or long-running worlds. Its control panel can expose graphical mod-configuration changes, and those changes persist through modpack updates according to the provider. Confirm that a setting is safe for this pack before changing it, and make a backup first.

Game Host Bros

Its guidance suggests beginning with a 16 GB RAM plan for modpack performance. In the control panel, open the Modpacks section, select Verdant Idea and install the desired version. SFTP access is available for transferring backups, inspecting logs or adding files when the panel does not expose a setting.

ScalaCube

Use the panel path Servers → Select your server → Game servers → Add Game Server → Verdant Idea. Select 0.9.3, complete the installation, start the instance and copy the connection address displayed by the panel.

BoxToPlay

Choose Verdant Idea, select a version, and wait while the server is built. The selected release is installed during setup; verify the resulting version in the panel before inviting players.

ZAP-Hosting

Its setup is described as automatic and preconfigured after payment. It also provides free FTP access, which can be used to upload an existing world or retrieve files. Upload a world only after stopping the server and confirming that its Minecraft and modpack versions match.

After provisioning

  1. Read the console for a successful startup and note the address and port.
  2. Stop the server once, if necessary, to set an administrator account or upload a world through the host’s supported file tool.
  3. Start it again and join locally before sharing the address.
  4. Give players the exact pack version and your server address; do not tell them to install “the latest” without naming the version.

Self-host Verdant Idea on a PC or VPS

No dedicated official self-hosting walkthrough is available, so use the server pack’s included files and the normal Forge server procedure below. Names of startup scripts can differ between pack releases; use the script supplied in the 0.9.3 archive rather than inventing a jar filename.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Prepare the machine

  1. Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime and verify that the command-line launcher reports Java 17.
  2. Create a dedicated directory such as verdant-idea-server on an SSD. Keep the directory separate from your client installation and from unrelated Minecraft worlds.
  3. Reserve at least the provider-published 15 GB storage baseline, with additional room for world growth and several backups.

2. Download and unpack the server pack

  1. Open the Verdant Idea project on CurseForge and select the 0.9.3 file page, or the newer release shown in the Files tab if one is now available.
  2. Download Verdant-Idea-Server-0.9.3.zip and extract every file into the dedicated server directory. Do not extract only the visible jar; scripts, libraries and configuration files may also be required.
  3. Inspect the included README or start script for the pack’s launch instructions. Keep the archive’s folder structure intact.

3. Complete the first launch

  1. Run the supplied start script from the server directory with Java 17. On Linux, make the script executable if the operating system requires it.
  2. If Forge stops and asks for the Minecraft EULA, open the generated eula.txt, read the license and change the acceptance value only if you agree.
  3. Run the script again and wait for a message indicating that the server has finished loading. The first run can take longer while Forge builds libraries and creates configuration files.
  4. Stop the server cleanly from its console before editing settings or copying the world.

Do not double-click random jars from inside the archive when a supplied script exists; the script may set required paths or JVM arguments.

4. Set memory deliberately

Allocate at least 5 GB to a small server, using the machine’s available memory as the limit. Leave operating-system memory free for file caching and other services. If several players explore simultaneously, increase the allocation only after checking actual memory use; assigning all physical RAM can make the machine less stable rather than faster.

Mattel Games UNO Minecraft Card Game with Storage Tin,Ages 7+
  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

5. Configure network access

  1. Allow the Java server process through the operating-system firewall.
  2. If hosting at home, forward the Minecraft listening port from the router to the server’s local IP address and give that machine a DHCP reservation or static local address.
  3. Use the port shown in the server properties. The default Minecraft port is commonly used, but do not assume it if the pack or your configuration specifies another value.
  4. Test from a second network, such as a phone hotspot, rather than relying only on a connection from the same home LAN.

Never expose unrelated administration ports to the public internet. Give friends only the Minecraft address and port, and keep operating-system, Java and panel accounts protected with strong, unique passwords.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install the matching client

  1. Install or open the CurseForge launcher.
  2. Find Verdant Idea and select 0.9.3, or the exact version your server is running.
  3. Allow the launcher to install the Forge profile and all pack mods.
  4. Launch once in single-player so the profile completes its setup, then exit.
  5. Choose Multiplayer, add the server address and port, and connect.

Every player must follow the same version rule. A client on 0.9.2, an older 0.9 build or an unverified future alpha is not an acceptable substitute for a 0.9.3 server.

Performance settings that matter

View and simulation distance

For a lagging server, lower view distance and simulation distance in the server settings. Hosting guidance for modded servers identifies these as general ways to reduce chunk processing and entity work; they are not Verdant Idea-specific optimizations. Change one setting at a time and have players reconnect so you can identify which change helped.

The max-tick-time watchdog

General modded-server guidance also suggests disabling the max-tick-time watchdog when long mod operations cause watchdog shutdowns. This prevents an automatic stop but does not make a slow tick fast. Use it only after investigating memory, CPU and problematic chunks, and keep frequent backups because a watchdog no longer provides that safety stop.

World-growth planning

Verdant Idea starts in an empty world, and exploration can create large numbers of generated chunks. Encourage players to establish nearby bases before sending everyone in different directions, and monitor disk use as the world expands. Avoid deleting region files unless you have a verified backup and understand the consequences.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Backups, updates and administration

Back up while stopped

Stop the server cleanly before copying the world directory. Keep at least one backup outside the server machine or host account, and periodically restore a copy to a separate test directory. An FTP or SFTP account can simplify transfers on providers that offer it.

Update in a controlled order

  1. Record the current pack version and make a complete world and configuration backup.
  2. Read the new release notes and verify that a compatible server pack exists.
  3. Stop the server, install the new server files according to the provider’s procedure, and preserve the world backup.
  4. Start once without players, inspect the console for missing mods or migration errors, then test with an administrator account.
  5. Have every player update the CurseForge profile to the identical release before reopening the server.

Do not overwrite a working 0.9.3 installation merely because a cached page labels an older file “Latest release.” Use the Files tab’s actual version and retain the prior installation until the new one has been tested.

Manage access

Use the server console or the hosting panel’s player-management tools to grant administrator privileges only to people who need them. Keep an audit-friendly copy of configuration changes, especially when a host panel modifies files automatically.

Troubleshooting common failures

“Incompatible FML modded server” or missing-mod errors

  • Confirm the server and client both report Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
  • Confirm both use Verdant Idea 0.9.3, not merely a similarly named profile.
  • Remove duplicate manually installed mods from the client profile; the pack launcher should supply the intended set.
  • If the server was updated, update every client before testing again.

Server will not start

  • Verify that Java 17, not an incompatible Java executable, is running the supplied script.
  • Read the first error in the console rather than the final shutdown line; missing libraries, an incomplete extraction or a damaged download commonly appear earlier.
  • Restore the last known-good server directory and backup, then retry the update with the server stopped.

Players time out while connecting

  • Check that the server process is running and listening on the configured port.
  • Recheck the operating-system firewall and, for home hosting, router forwarding to the correct local IP.
  • Test from outside the host’s LAN. A local connection can work even when internet forwarding is wrong.
  • On a managed host, use the address and port shown in its panel instead of assuming the default.

Ticks are slow or the server stops during heavy work

  • Lower view and simulation distance.
  • Check CPU and memory usage before allocating more RAM.
  • Consider the max-tick-time watchdog guidance only after making a backup and understanding that disabling it can allow a hung server to remain stuck.
  • Ask players to avoid simultaneous long-distance exploration while you identify the source of the load.

Which hosting route should you choose?

Choose this when… Recommended route
You want a playable server with no command-line or router work. One-click managed hosting, selecting Verdant Idea 0.9.3 in the provider’s modpack catalog.
You need SFTP/FTP access for worlds, logs and custom files. A host whose plan explicitly includes SFTP or FTP, such as the options described above.
You already maintain Linux services and want complete control. Self-host on a PC or VPS with Java 17 and the 0.9.3 server pack.
You are uncertain how many players or chunks the world will accumulate. Start above the 5 GB floor, monitor actual use, and choose a plan that can be upgraded without rebuilding the world.

Whichever route you take, the non-negotiable checks are the same: Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1, the same Verdant Idea release on every machine, reliable backups, and enough CPU, memory and storage for the world you intend to build.
