Host ZN Pack Naruto on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge by installing a 1.12.2 Forge server, deploying the official ZN-PACK-3.5-SERVERPACK.zip into a clean server directory, accepting the EULA, and having every player use the matching ZN_Pack-3.5.zip client pack with the same Forge version. The separate server archive is important: it is prepared for multiplayer operation rather than ordinary client play.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What ZN Pack Naruto is
ZN Pack (Naruto) is a CurseForge modpack by Zeefski for Minecraft 1.12.2. It is built around ShinobiCraft and adds convenience, map, storage, quest and multiplayer-oriented mods. The project currently lists release 3.5 for both sides of a multiplayer installation, but the filenames are different because the server and client have different jobs.

CurseForge defines a server pack as “A Server Pack is a specially prepared version of your modpack that allows it to be run on a multiplayer server.” That distinction explains why downloading the ordinary client archive for a dedicated server often leads to missing files, unsuitable client-only content or a server that will not start correctly.
The CurseForge files page showed 412,710 project downloads in 2026. That number is a changing counter, not a measure of server capacity, stability or support, so do not use it as a hosting specification.

Get both archives from the official ZN Pack project files on CurseForge. Zeefski’s project description gives the key instruction in plain language: “if ur using a server, use the server pack!” Keep the original server ZIP somewhere safe even after extraction; it is the clean rollback point if a configuration change or mod update damages the installation.
Choose where the server will run
Self-hosting
Running the server on a machine you control gives you direct access to the files, world saves, backups, network ports and Java process. It also makes you responsible for operating-system updates, firewall rules, port forwarding, power, internet upload capacity and monitoring. A home connection can work for a small group, but the machine must remain available whenever players expect to connect.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteManaged hosting
A managed Minecraft provider can remove much of the operating-system and networking work. VeryGames currently advertises installation of the ZN Pack (Naruto) modpack, which confirms that at least one managed service lists the pack. The available information does not establish that provider’s RAM or CPU allocation, player limit, price, uptime commitment, backup policy or geographic locations. Confirm those items directly before paying, and ask whether the panel can import the official server ZIP and select a custom Forge JAR.

What cannot be specified safely
No authoritative minimum for RAM, CPU, bandwidth, player count or view distance is published in the available project material. Size the machine for your intended number of players, the distance at which chunks are kept active and the amount of new terrain being generated, then adjust after watching tick performance and memory use. Treat any universal “minimum RAM” number found elsewhere as a host-specific estimate rather than an official ZN Pack requirement.
Install the 1.12.2 Forge server
- Prepare an empty directory. Create a new server folder on the computer or in the managed host’s file manager. Do not mix the pack with files from another modpack or an older world while you are establishing the first working installation.
- Install Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2. Use the Forge server installer or the installation workflow supplied by your host. The server software, startup profile and Java runtime must all target 1.12.2; a newer Minecraft or Forge line is not a compatible substitute.
- Check Java before launching. Java is required for modpacks. CurseForge support warns that an outdated Java installation can cause launch problems. Use a Java runtime supported by your host and compatible with the 1.12.2 Forge server, and verify the runtime selected in the host panel rather than assuming the machine’s default Java is being used.
- Stop the empty server and deploy the pack. Upload
ZN-PACK-3.5-SERVERPACK.zipto the clean directory and extract its contents at the directory level expected by the host. If the panel offers an archive extractor, check that it did not create an extra nested folder; the Forge files and pack folders must be where the startup profile looks for them. - Set the panel’s server type when required. An earlier official instruction says to delete the existing server files, upload the server pack and “change the JAR type to custom on settings.” “Custom JAR” is a host-panel term, not a universal Minecraft button. Some panels call the same choice custom executable, custom Forge or a user-supplied JAR. Select the option that points to the Forge server installation and follow the provider’s current label.
- Launch once, then accept the EULA. Start the server with the host’s Forge startup control. The first run creates the EULA file and initial directories. Stop the process, set the EULA acceptance as required by Mojang’s file, and start it again. Do not skip this step: a server that has not recorded EULA acceptance will stop during startup.
- Allow generation to finish. On the next run, Forge and the included mods create configuration files, libraries and a world. Leave the process running until the console reports that the server is ready, then stop it cleanly before making configuration changes. Generation time depends on the machine and whether the first players immediately explore new terrain.
- Record the connection details. For self-hosting, note the address and forwarded game port; for a managed host, use the address and port shown by its panel. Keep operator access restricted and share only the connection details players need.
Make every player match the server
Each player should install the client archive ZN_Pack-3.5.zip through a launcher that supports CurseForge modpacks, select Minecraft 1.12.2 and use the Forge version required by the pack. The server and client archives are the project’s matching release pair. A player who uses a different pack revision, a different Forge build or a manually altered mod list is likely to receive a missing-mod, mismatched-version or registry error during login.
Client checklist
- Minecraft version is 1.12.2.
- Forge is selected rather than vanilla Minecraft.
- The installed client pack is the listed 3.5 release.
- No mods have been removed, added or replaced unless the server administrator has made the identical change on the server and every client.
- The launcher uses a Java runtime that can start the 1.12.2 modpack.
If one person can join while another cannot, compare the failing player’s installed profile with a known-good profile before changing the server. Matching the version and mod list usually identifies the problem faster than repeatedly restarting the server.

First-start validation
Before inviting a full group, connect with one client and test the basic loop: login, move between dimensions if the pack exposes them, open a chest, accept or abandon a quest, and reconnect after a clean server restart. Watch the console while testing. A successful login confirms that the Forge handshake and mod registry agree; it does not prove that every quest, faction feature or world-generation path is free of bugs.
Back up before inviting players
- Stop the server normally so pending world writes are flushed.
- Copy the complete world directory and the server configuration and mod-related directories to storage outside the live server folder.
- Label the backup with the pack release and date.
- Retain the untouched server-pack ZIP for a clean file comparison or rollback.
Back up again before changing mods, replacing configuration files or moving to a later pack release. A world backup without its corresponding configuration can behave differently after restoration, so preserve both together.
Self-hosted versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Self-hosted server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | You install Forge, deploy the archive and configure networking. | The provider supplies a panel and may offer one-click or assisted pack installation. |
| File and backup control | Direct control of files, worlds and backup schedules. | Depends on panel permissions and the provider’s backup tools. |
| Networking | You handle firewall rules, port forwarding and public address changes. | The provider normally supplies the public endpoint. |
| Maintenance | You maintain Java, the operating system and the server process. | The provider maintains the host platform; you still maintain the pack, world and player configuration. |
| Pack support | Any supported Forge installation can be configured manually. | Confirm that the panel accepts the official server ZIP and a custom Forge JAR. |
Neither model removes the need for backups or matched clients. Managed hosting reduces infrastructure work, while self-hosting offers more control; choose based on who should own those responsibilities rather than on an assumed performance difference.

Troubleshooting known ZN Pack problems
World loading stops at 0 percent
The project author reports that world loading can stop at 0 percent and suggests closing and reopening the game. Treat this as a reported pack limitation, not a guaranteed cure. Close the client completely, restart it and try the same world again. If the problem returns, capture the client log and server console output, confirm that the client and server files still match, and restore the last known-good backup before experimenting with mods or configuration.
Quest or factions inventory tabs crash the game
Zeefski reports crashes when the quest or factions tabs are clicked in the inventory and states that there is no known fix. Avoid those tabs on affected clients, warn players not to use them during valuable gameplay, and keep regular backups. Do not promise that reinstalling Java, changing graphics settings or replacing random mods will solve this project-reported issue.
Server will not start after deployment
- Confirm that the directory is clean and that the server archive was extracted without an extra folder level.
- Check that the panel is launching the Forge installation, not a vanilla JAR or an old profile.
- Verify the selected Java runtime is supported and not an outdated installation.
- Read the first error in the console before changing files; later messages are often consequences of the initial failure.
- If the installation was modified, restore the untouched server-pack contents and reapply only documented configuration changes.
Players receive mod or registry mismatch errors
Make the client and server release, Minecraft version, Forge version and mod files identical. Reinstall the official client archive rather than copying individual mods from an unknown profile. On the server, compare against the retained original ZIP and remove unplanned additions. A mismatch cannot be repaired by changing only the player’s video settings or network connection.

Players cannot connect to a self-hosted server
Check that the server process is actually ready, the operating-system firewall permits the game port and the router forwards that port to the machine running Forge. Test locally from the host machine first, then from another network. For a managed server, use the endpoint displayed by the provider and open a support ticket if the process is ready but the assigned port is unreachable.
Updating, restoring and operating the server
Do not update in place without a rollback
When a new ZN Pack release appears, stop the server and make a complete world-and-configuration backup before replacing files. Keep the previous server archive and document the change. Test the updated installation with a copy of the world when possible; never use the live save as the first experiment with a new mod set.
Keep Java and host settings consistent
Changing Java versions, startup profiles or panel JAR selections can alter how an old Forge installation behaves. Record the working runtime and panel settings. If a host offers several Java choices, select the one it documents for 1.12.2 Forge rather than automatically choosing the newest runtime.
Watch performance instead of guessing specifications
Because the project does not publish authoritative RAM, CPU, bandwidth or player-capacity requirements, monitor real use. Observe tick-time warnings, memory consumption, CPU saturation and the delay caused by new chunk generation while your expected number of players explores. Lower the server’s view or simulation distance if exploration overwhelms the machine, and increase resources only when measurements show that the current allocation is the constraint.
