For the current ZS Pack (Tensura) release, use the ZS REINCARNATED-3.1 branch for Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge and download its separate server archive, ZS_REINCARNATED_3.1-server-pack.zip. Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime, extract the archive into a dedicated folder, install NeoForge there if the archive does not already contain it, accept the EULA after the first launch, set memory in user_jvm_args.txt, and allow TCP port 25565 through your firewall and router for players outside your network.

Choose the correct ZS Pack branch and server file
ZS Pack (Tensura) is a modpack based on That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. The project currently lists three Minecraft branches. The newest listed branch is 1.21.1 on NeoForge, while the two older branches use Forge.
| Minecraft version | Loader | Client file listed | Matching server archive | Use case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.21.1 | NeoForge | ZS REINCARNATED-3.1.zip | ZS_REINCARNATED_3.1-server-pack.zip | Current listed release |
| 1.19.2 | Forge | Not stated in the release information | ZS_REINCARNATED_SERVER_2.7.zip | Older branch for an existing 1.19.2 world or group |
| 1.16.5 | Forge | Not stated in the release information | ZS_PACKserverpack.zip | Legacy branch |
For a new server, choose the 1.21.1 row. Download the server-pack archive, not merely the client zip. A client pack is intended for a player’s launcher; it is not automatically a complete dedicated-server installation.

The CurseForge project page lists 211,882 downloads in 2026 and shows a July 21, 2026 update. Those figures describe the page’s activity and update metadata; they do not remove the need to match the exact files on your server and clients.
What you need before installing
A dedicated server folder
Create a clean folder used only by this server, such as C:MinecraftZS-Tensura on Windows or /srv/minecraft/zs-tensura on Linux. Do not extract the archive inside another modpack’s directory. Keeping one folder per branch prevents old mods, configs, and world data from being loaded accidentally.

Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer use Java 21 according to NeoForge’s server guidance, so the 1.21.1 branch requires a 64-bit Java 21 runtime. Check the Java executable before you run an installer:
java -version
The reported version must be Java 21, and the installation must be 64-bit. If your operating system has several Java versions, use the Java 21 executable explicitly or adjust your system PATH so that java resolves to it. A Java 17 or 32-bit runtime can cause an immediate loader failure or leave the server with unusable memory limits.
Network and operating-system access
- Administrative permission may be required to install Java, open a firewall rule, or forward a router port.
- Allow the server process to accept inbound TCP connections on port 25565 if you retain the default port.
- Have enough free disk space for the server files, generated chunks, logs, and backups. World size grows as players explore.
- Keep the machine powered on and connected for the hours in which friends need access.
Install the 1.21.1 NeoForge server
1. Download the matching server pack
On the ZS Pack files page, select ZS_REINCARNATED_3.1-server-pack.zip. Confirm that the filename identifies it as a server pack and that the associated Minecraft version is 1.21.1. Do not rename an older 1.19.2 or 1.16.5 archive and assume it is compatible.

2. Extract into the server directory
Extract every file from the zip directly into your dedicated server folder. After extraction, the folder should contain the pack’s scripts, configuration files, libraries or installer materials, and any supplied server settings. Avoid an extra nested path such as ZS_REINCARNATED_3.1-server-packZS_REINCARNATED_3.1-server-pack; if the launch script is buried there, run commands from the directory that actually contains it.
Before changing anything, make a copy of the empty extracted folder. Once a world exists, back up the world directory and important configuration files before every pack or loader upgrade.
3. Install NeoForge if the archive does not already include it
Some server packs include a prepared loader; others provide the pack files but expect you to install the matching loader. Look in the extracted folder for an existing NeoForge installation and launch scripts. If it is not present, download the NeoForge installer for Minecraft 1.21.1 and place it in the server directory. Run:
java -jar neoforge-installer.jar --installServer
Run that command from the server directory so the installer writes the libraries and launch files beside the pack. The installer must match Minecraft 1.21.1; an installer for a different Minecraft version or for Forge instead of NeoForge is not a substitute.
4. Start once to generate files
Use the script supplied by the pack or generated by NeoForge:

./run.sh
On Windows, run:
run.bat
The first launch normally creates files and then stops because the Minecraft EULA has not been accepted. This stop is expected and is not, by itself, a crash. If the script is not executable on a Unix-like system, grant execute permission or invoke it through the shell used by the pack. Do not start the server by double-clicking random jar files when a supplied script exists; the script may set required class paths and JVM arguments.
5. Accept the EULA and launch again
Open eula.txt in the server folder. Change:
eula=false
to:
eula=true
Save the file and run the same launch script again. The EULA acceptance means you agree to abide by the Minecraft EULA while operating the server. The server should proceed through mod loading and remain running at a console prompt when startup succeeds.
Set memory and check startup health
Use user_jvm_args.txt
NeoForge-based server packs commonly separate user JVM settings from generated launch files. Open user_jvm_args.txt in the server directory and set the maximum heap with an entry such as:
-Xmx6G
A hosting-provider setup guide uses 6 GB as its baseline for this pack. Treat that number as guidance, not a universal capacity guarantee. The right allocation depends on concurrent players, view distance, exploration and world generation, other enabled settings, the operating system, and the amount of RAM available to the machine. Giving Java nearly all system memory can make the operating system unstable; leave room for the OS and background services.

More memory cannot fix a mismatched mod, an incompatible Java runtime, or a CPU that cannot keep up with world generation.

Recognize a completed startup
A successful launch continues past mod discovery and reports that the server is ready for connections. Leave the console open while the server is in use. To stop safely, use the server console’s stop command rather than closing the window, so chunks and player data can be saved cleanly.
Expose the server to remote players
Keep or change the port
Minecraft’s default server port is 25565. Keeping it avoids requiring players to enter a nonstandard port. If you change it in the server configuration, give players the new port and open that same port in every relevant firewall and router rule.
Open the host firewall
Create an inbound TCP rule for port 25565 on the computer running the server. Windows Defender Firewall, a Linux firewall, and security software can each block the connection independently. Allowing Java to run is not always equivalent to allowing the desired port, so verify the rule specifically permits the server’s listening port.
Forward the router port
If the server is behind a home router, forward TCP 25565 from the router to the server computer’s local IP address. Reserve that local address or configure a DHCP reservation so the forwarding rule does not point to the wrong machine after a reboot. Players on the same local network may be able to connect using the server’s local address even when internet players still cannot.
For an internet connection, the host must be running, the address supplied to players must be correct, and the internet service must permit inbound connections. Some networks use carrier-grade NAT and do not provide a routable public address; in that case, ordinary port forwarding may not work and you need a network arrangement that supports inbound access.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Install the client pack and connect
- Each player installs the client file ZS REINCARNATED-3.1.zip through a pack-capable launcher such as CurseForge or Prism.
- In the launcher, verify that the profile uses Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, not Forge and not a different Minecraft version.
- Start the profile once locally so the launcher creates its instance files and confirms that the pack loads.
- Launch the server and wait for its ready message.
- In Minecraft, open Multiplayer, add the server address, and include
:25565only when the server uses the default port and the launcher does not fill it automatically.
The server and every client must have the same ZS Pack release, Minecraft version, and loader. Do not install the server archive as a client profile, and do not ask clients to combine individual mods from different branches. A single missing, extra, or different-version mod can produce a connection rejection even when the server itself starts normally.
Troubleshoot the failures that occur most often
The Java or loader process fails immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm a 64-bit Java 21 runtime for the 1.21.1 branch. - Check that the NeoForge installer targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and that you ran it from the server directory.
- Remove accidental references to an older Java executable in a launch script or service definition.
- Read the first error in the console and log rather than relying on the final generic “process exited” line.
The server stops after the first launch
Open eula.txt, change eula=false to eula=true, save it, and run the launch script again. If the file is regenerated, you may be editing a different directory from the one used by the script; check the script’s working directory and edit the EULA file beside the active server files.
Friends cannot join
- Confirm the server console is still running and has completed startup.
- Have the player verify the exact address and port.
- Check the host firewall for an inbound TCP rule on 25565.
- Check router port forwarding and ensure it targets the server’s current local IP.
- Test locally from the host or home network to separate a mod-loading problem from an internet-routing problem.
- Ask the player to compare the client filename, Minecraft version, and loader with the server’s files.
Players see missing or mismatched mods
Compare the clients against the exact ZS REINCARNATED-3.1.zip profile and the server’s ZS_REINCARNATED_3.1-server-pack.zip. Do not mix the 1.19.2 Forge pack, the 1.16.5 Forge pack, and the 1.21.1 NeoForge pack. If only one player fails, have that player recreate the launcher instance from the correct client archive instead of manually copying individual jar files.
Startup is slow, crashes, or becomes unstable
Inspect user_jvm_args.txt, physical RAM usage, and the server log. A 6 GB heap is a starting point from provider guidance, not a promise that every group will perform well with that setting. World generation, high view distance, concurrent exploration, and CPU limits can all affect responsiveness. Make one change at a time and keep a backup before changing pack files or configuration.
Update the pack without losing the world
- Tell players to stop connecting and stop the server cleanly from its console.
- Copy the complete world directory to a separate backup location.
- Back up configuration files, scripts, and any custom server settings you changed.
- Read the release’s Minecraft-version and loader requirements before replacing files.
- Install the new matching server pack in a separate test directory when possible.
- Only after the test starts successfully, migrate the backed-up world and approved configuration changes.
- Have every player update to the same client release before reconnecting.
Never overwrite a working 1.21.1 world with 1.19.2 or 1.16.5 files. The branches use different Minecraft versions and loaders, and a world conversion can be irreversible. Retain the previous server folder until the new installation has been tested and a current backup exists.

Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Running the server on your own computer gives maximum control, but a managed Minecraft host can remove operating-system and router work. Decide using the dimensions below rather than assuming that every host supports every modpack.
| Decision factor | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront versus recurring cost | Usually uses hardware and internet service you already pay for; electricity and hardware wear remain your responsibility. | Normally charges a recurring fee; the plan’s RAM, CPU allocation, storage, and traffic limits must be checked. |
| Technical control | Full access to Java, files, JVM arguments, logs, and operating-system settings. | Control depends on the panel and plan; some settings may be restricted. |
| Setup and updates | You install Java, NeoForge, packs, firewall rules, and updates yourself. | The provider may supply an installer or panel, but you still need to upload the correct server pack and resolve mod compatibility. |
| Backups and restore | You must schedule, store, and test your own backups. | Some plans include automated backups and restore tools; retention and restore limits vary. |
| Latency | Depends on your home upload connection and the players’ distance from your home. | You can often select a region, but geographic locations and network quality differ by provider. |
| CPU and RAM | Bound by your machine’s available resources; you can tune the operating system directly. | Bound by the purchased plan and any shared-resource policy. |
| Custom server-pack uploads | Not restricted by a host panel; you control every file. | Confirm that the host permits custom server-pack uploads, NeoForge 1.21.1, and the required Java version. |
| Support | You diagnose Java, loader, networking, and mod errors yourself. | Support may help with the panel or machine, but pack-specific troubleshooting is not guaranteed. |
Before purchasing a managed plan, ask specifically whether it supports NeoForge 1.21.1, custom server-pack uploads, Java 21 selection, console access, port management, and backups. A host that advertises generic Forge support may not support this NeoForge branch.
