To host All the Mods 7 – To the Sky, lock every player to the same Minecraft 1.18.2 pack release, download the matching server-1.2.3 files, run them with the Java version required by 1.18.2, allocate at least 6 GB of server memory, accept the EULA, and open the server port. You can do that on a suitably provisioned home machine or let a managed modded-Minecraft host handle the network and hardware.

What you are hosting

All the Mods 7 – To the Sky is an ATMTeam skyblock modpack for Minecraft 1.18.2. Its progression begins with a tree and expands through technology and magic, including Twilight Forest, Alchemistry and the Ex Machinis automation add-on. CurseForge lists release 1.2.3 as the latest release dated April 18, 2023, with a corresponding server-1.2.3 download. The project page displayed 2,144,717 downloads in 2023.

A server is not compatible merely because it is called “ATM7.” The regular All the Mods 7 pack and the To the Sky edition have different files and configurations. Treat the edition, Minecraft version, mod loader and pack release as a single locked set.

Requirements before you begin

Requirement What to prepare Why it matters
Pack files The To the Sky server archive for release 1.2.3, extracted into a new directory The server and every client must load the same mods and configuration.
Minecraft and loader Minecraft 1.18.2 and the loader specified by the server pack and its startup files A different game or loader version can stop the server or reject clients.
Java A 64-bit Java runtime suitable for Minecraft 1.18.2; for most 1.18.2 installations this is Java 17 The wrong Java executable is a common cause of an immediate shutdown.
Memory At least 6 GB allocated to the server, with additional RAM left for the operating system Modded world generation and automation can use substantially more memory than a vanilla server.
Storage Fast local storage with room for the world, logs, backups and future updates Skyblock saves grow as players create machines, chunks and dimensions.
Network A reachable machine, firewall rule and (for home hosting) router port forwarding Players outside your home network cannot connect until the traffic is permitted.
Administration Permission to run Java, edit files, stop the process and make backups Updates and recovery require filesystem and console access.

Do not give the Java process all physical RAM. Leave headroom for Windows or Linux, file caching, backups and any other service on the machine. The general AllTheMods guidance places 8–12 GB as a useful maximum for client instances; that is context for sizing a dedicated computer, not a command to assign that entire amount to the server.

Self-hosting or managed hosting?

Self-hosting is practical when you have a computer that can stay on, a stable upload connection and access to your router. You control the files, Java installation, backups, console and upgrades. The trade-off is that you also own every failure: power loss, port-forwarding mistakes, operating-system updates, backups and performance troubleshooting.

Managed modded-Minecraft hosting removes most of the hardware and networking work. The provider supplies an always-on machine, a control panel and usually file access; you still need to install the correct pack, keep clients synchronized and maintain backups. Confirm that the provider supports this specific To the Sky release before paying, because a generic modpack installer may offer only the regular ATM7 edition.

Consideration Home server Managed server
Up-front cost Uses hardware you already own; electricity and possible upgrades are your costs. Recurring subscription; no server hardware purchase.
Network setup Firewall and router port forwarding are your responsibility. Public connectivity is normally included; you configure players and permissions in the panel.
Control Full access to Java, scripts, mods, world files and operating system. Access depends on the provider, panel and file-transfer tools.
Maintenance You monitor uptime, restart crashes and replace failed hardware. The provider maintains the host machine; pack updates and world backups remain your job unless the plan includes them.
Scaling Limited by the machine’s RAM, CPU and upload bandwidth. Usually changed by moving to a larger plan, subject to the provider’s ATM7 Sky support.

One documented hosted-server workflow has five stages: choose the modpack, choose a plan, choose a region, enter server details and pay. Its example tiers list Iron at $12 per month with 4 GB for 1–5 players and Gold at $24 per month with 8 GB for 6–15 players, plus a higher tier. Those examples do not establish current pricing or compatibility, and the 4 GB example is below the 6 GB allocation recommended for this pack. Check the provider’s current limits and To the Sky support before ordering.

Download and extract the official server files

  1. Decide which release your group will play. For the documented release, select Minecraft 1.18.2 and To the Sky 1.2.3. Write that choice down so nobody installs the regular ATM7 pack by mistake.
  2. Open the To the Sky project on CurseForge and select the chosen file. In the file’s additional-files area, download the matching server archive, identified for this release as server-1.2.3.
  3. Create a clean directory dedicated to this server, such as C:MinecraftATM7Sky on Windows or /srv/minecraft/atm7-sky on Linux. Do not extract over another modpack or an old regular-ATM7 directory.
  4. Extract the complete archive into that directory. Preserve subdirectories and filenames; moving individual jars into a different layout can break the supplied scripts.
  5. If third-party antivirus software removes files or reports corruption during extraction, temporarily exclude only this server directory, extract again, and then restore normal protection. Do not permanently disable system security for the whole computer.
  6. Check that the directory contains the supplied startup files, libraries, configuration folders and server jars before attempting to launch. The exact filenames vary by pack release.

Install and select the correct Java runtime

Install a 64-bit Java runtime appropriate for Minecraft 1.18.2. Java 17 is the usual runtime for that Minecraft line, but the pack’s startup files and server guide take precedence if they specify a different executable. A 32-bit runtime cannot provide the address space needed by a large modpack.

Verify the runtime Windows or Linux will use

  1. Open Command Prompt, PowerShell or a Linux terminal in any directory.
  2. Run java -version.
  3. Confirm that the reported major version is the one required by the pack and that the path points to a 64-bit installation.
java -version

Having Java installed is not enough when several versions are present. The operating system may select an older version from its PATH. If the server exits immediately, call the required executable by its full path in the startup script, for example:

"C:Program FilesJavajdk-17binjava.exe" -version
"C:Program FilesJavajdk-17binjava.exe" @user_jvm_args.txt @libraries/net/minecraftforge/forge/.../win_args.txt nogui

The second line is illustrative: use the arguments and jar paths supplied by your extracted pack rather than copying a path from another release. On Linux, the equivalent is a full path such as /usr/lib/jvm/java-17/bin/java in the supplied shell script. Make the script executable with chmod +x if Linux refuses to run it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the pack’s loader procedure

When a Forge or NeoForge installer is supplied or supported by the host, use that procedure instead of inventing a new jar command. If a control panel asks for a custom jar, follow the server pack’s custom-jar or ServerStarter method documented by AllTheMods. The loader version, libraries and launch arguments must come from this release’s files.

Set server memory without starving the machine

The current AllTheMods server guidance is to allocate at least 6 GB of RAM. That is an allocation to the Java process, not the total amount the computer needs. A machine with 8 GB total RAM is therefore a poor choice: assigning 6 GB leaves little room for the operating system and can cause swapping or crashes. A dedicated host with 12 GB or more gives the server useful headroom; add more when several players explore separate areas or run intensive automation.

Mattel Games UNO Minecraft Card Game with Storage Tin,Ages 7+
  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

Prefer the memory variables in the supplied Windows batch or Linux shell script. If the script exposes minimum and maximum heap values, set the maximum to at least 6 GB and leave the remainder for the operating system. A value written as 6144M or 6G represents the same approximate maximum, depending on the script’s syntax. Do not change unrelated garbage-collection or module arguments unless the pack documentation requires it.

Watch the console and operating-system memory after players begin exploring. Frequent “out of memory” errors, a host that swaps heavily, or a server that becomes unresponsive indicates that the machine needs more physical RAM, fewer simultaneous services, a lower view distance, or fewer concurrent workloads—not simply an unlimited heap value.

Accept the EULA and perform the first launch

  1. Run the supplied Windows batch file or Linux shell script from the server directory. The first run may install or update the configured loader and create configuration files.
  2. Wait for the process to stop and inspect the console. A normal first run creates an eula.txt file when the agreement has not yet been accepted.
  3. Read Mojang’s EULA, then open eula.txt and change only eula=false to eula=true if you agree.
  4. Run the same startup script again. A successful launch ends with a server-ready message and a listening port rather than an immediate return to the command prompt.
  5. Leave the console running while testing. The scripts can check Java and EULA state, apply JVM and RAM settings, install or update the configured loader and, where enabled, restart after a crash.

Stop the server cleanly from its console before closing the terminal or rebooting. A hard power-off can damage the world or leave region files incomplete.

Make the server reachable

Home network

  1. Give the server computer a stable local address, preferably with a DHCP reservation in the router.
  2. Allow the Java executable or the server application through the operating system firewall on the network profile you actually use.
  3. Forward the Minecraft server port shown in server.properties from the router to the server’s local address. If you changed the port, give players the port with the address.
  4. Test locally first by connecting to the server’s LAN address. Only after that works should a player outside the home network test the public address.
  5. Share the public address privately. Do not post your home IP in a public channel, and remove the forwarding rule if you shut down the server permanently.

Some internet providers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT, which prevents ordinary inbound forwarding. In that case, a managed host or a provider-supported tunnel is usually simpler than repeatedly changing router settings.

Managed host

Upload the extracted server directory through FTP, SFTP or the provider’s file manager when a one-click installer is unavailable. Set the panel’s Java version and memory to match the pack, choose the supplied custom jar or startup method, accept the EULA in the files, and start the instance. Keep a local copy of the world and configuration even when the panel advertises automated backups.

Make every client identical

Each player must install the same To the Sky release, Minecraft version, loader and configuration files as the server. The easiest approach is for everyone to select the same profile in the pack launcher rather than assembling mods individually.

  • Do not combine regular ATM7 files with To the Sky files.
  • Do not add client-only or server-only mods unless you know the pack supports them.
  • When a player receives a “missing mods,” “mod list mismatch” or registry error, compare the exact pack profile and loader before changing the server.
  • Keep configuration files synchronized after an update; a copied configuration from another pack can change recipes, world generation or machine behavior.

Connect first with the server’s LAN address from the same network, then with its public address. Operators can grant access from the server console after the connection test succeeds. Keep the console log available during a failed join: it often identifies a loader mismatch more clearly than the client screen.

Backups, updates and routine administration

Back up before every change

Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and the configuration and script files, then label the backup with the pack release and date. Store at least one copy away from the server machine. A backup made while the process is writing region files may be inconsistent, so do not rely on a live file copy as your only recovery point.

Update in a controlled sequence

  1. Announce maintenance and stop the server.
  2. Create and verify a backup.
  3. Read the target release notes and download its matching server archive.
  4. Test the new files in a separate directory or on a copy of the world whenever possible.
  5. Update clients to the identical release before opening the server to the group.
  6. Keep the old directory until players have joined successfully and the new world has been backed up.

Changing pack versions or adding mods can alter world generation and block or item IDs. Never overwrite the only working copy, and never assume a regular ATM7 update can be applied to this skyblock edition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Monitor the process

  • Review the latest log after crashes, failed joins and unexpected world behavior.
  • Watch free disk space; logs, backups and exploration can grow quietly.
  • Schedule backups when the server is stopped or use a tool that creates a consistent snapshot.
  • Keep the operating system and Java security updates current, but test a Java change against the pack before performing it during an active play session.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The server closes immediately

  • Run java -version and compare it with the runtime required by Minecraft 1.18.2.
  • Call the correct Java executable by its full path if multiple installations exist.
  • Launch from a terminal so the error remains visible instead of double-clicking a batch file.
  • Check that the archive was fully extracted and that the script is running from the server directory.
  • Read the first error in the log; later “server stopped” lines are usually consequences, not causes.

Files disappeared or the loader reports a corrupt jar

Third-party antivirus may quarantine files during extraction. Temporarily exclude only the server directory, extract the original archive again, confirm the expected files exist, and then restore scanning. Download a fresh archive if the original was incomplete.

A host asks for a custom jar

Use the host’s supported Forge or NeoForge installer when it matches the pack, or configure the ServerStarter approach described by AllTheMods. Supply the loader and arguments from the extracted release; selecting an arbitrary “latest” jar can produce an incompatible server.

Players cannot connect

  • Confirm the server process reached its ready state and is listening on the configured port.
  • Test the LAN address before testing the public address.
  • Recheck the operating-system firewall and router forwarding target.
  • Compare every player’s pack release, Minecraft version, loader and configuration.
  • Inspect both the server log and the client’s error text before removing mods or deleting the world.

The server lags or runs out of memory

  • Confirm that at least 6 GB is allocated and that the machine has additional unallocated RAM.
  • Check whether the operating system is swapping; if it is, reduce other services or add physical memory rather than only increasing the heap.
  • Ask players to avoid generating many new chunks simultaneously while you diagnose the load.
  • Review automation builds and dimensions that were added immediately before the slowdown.
  • Restore a known-good backup only after preserving the current logs for diagnosis.

Security and reliability checklist

  • Run the server under a dedicated, non-administrator operating-system account when practical.
  • Keep Java, the operating system and the server files updated from trusted sources.
  • Expose only the Minecraft port you need; do not forward remote-desktop or file-sharing services to the internet unnecessarily.
  • Use an allow-list if the group is private, and grant operator privileges only to people who need them.
  • Keep dated backups off the live machine and periodically test restoring one to a separate directory.
  • Record the pack release, Java path, memory setting, port and backup location so another trusted administrator can recover the server.

Which hosting choice fits your group?

Choose self-hosting when

  • You already have an always-on computer with at least 6 GB available to the server and more RAM for the operating system.
  • You can configure a firewall and router, and your internet connection accepts inbound traffic.
  • You want complete control over scripts, Java, backups and experimental configuration.
  • You are comfortable diagnosing logs and recovering from failed updates.

Choose managed hosting when

  • You cannot leave a home computer running or cannot receive inbound connections.
  • Your group needs a predictable public address and a control panel rather than router administration.
  • You prefer a provider to supply hardware replacement and basic uptime monitoring.
  • You have verified that the plan offers at least the pack’s recommended memory and supports the To the Sky server files, not only the similarly named regular pack.

For either model, the technical rule is the same: use one locked pack release, the correct Minecraft and Java environment, enough memory, and a tested backup. Once those four conditions are in place, the remaining work is ordinary server administration—network access, player permissions, monitoring and careful updates.
