What you need before installing AQM2
AQM2 is a large adventure-and-progression modpack. Its project description combines quests, technology, magic, additional biomes and structures, dungeons, bosses, and new mobs. A server therefore needs the complete server distribution rather than a copied client folder.

- A clean server directory: use a separate folder, not the folder used by your personal client installation.
- The exact AQM2 1.19.2 server pack: the CurseForge file list identifies
server_aqm2-1.19.2_1.4.zipas a server-pack release for Minecraft 1.19.2. - 64-bit Java 17: Forge’s 1.19.2 documentation specifies Java 17 and recommends a 64-bit JVM.
- Administrative access: you need permission to install Java, allow the server through the operating-system firewall, and change router settings if friends will connect over the internet.
- Matching clients: every player needs Java Edition 1.19.2, the same AQM2 pack release, and the same loader and mod versions as the server.
No authoritative AQM2-specific source establishes a fixed minimum RAM amount, CPU model, player limit, or performance target. Treat the pack’s actual workload and your player count as capacity questions to measure after installation, rather than relying on an invented minimum.
Download the correct AQM2 server pack
Find the 1.19.2 server-pack entry
Open the official AQM2 project’s CurseForge files list and select the server-pack file whose Minecraft version is 1.19.2. The documented 1.19.2 file is named server_aqm2-1.19.2_1.4.zip. Do not select a client-only download, a different Minecraft release, or a server pack for another AQM2 version.

Prepare the directory
- Create a folder dedicated to this server, such as
AQM2-1.19.2-Server. - Copy the downloaded ZIP into that folder and extract it there, following any README instructions included with the pack.
- Keep the extracted libraries, scripts, configuration folders, and Forge files together. Do not merge files from another modpack or an older AQM2 installation.
- Make a separate backup location outside the live server folder. You will later back up the world and configuration files while the server is stopped.
Server packs often include a Windows launcher such as run.bat and a Unix-like launcher such as run.sh. Use the supplied launcher and its accompanying files instead of guessing a Forge command line; the pack’s scripts are designed to select the included libraries and arguments.
Install and verify 64-bit Java 17
Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge is built against Java 17. A newer or older Java executable can cause an immediate shutdown, class-version errors, or unusual mod failures. Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime and make sure the server launcher can find it.

Check the runtime
Open a terminal or Command Prompt and run:
java -versionThe output should identify Java 17 and a 64-bit runtime. If the command is not found, install Java 17 and add its bin directory to your system PATH, or edit the server launcher to use the full path to the Java executable. If several Java versions are installed, verify which one the launcher actually calls rather than checking a different terminal shortcut.
Common Java mistakes
- Installing 32-bit Java on a 64-bit operating system can limit addressable memory and is contrary to Forge’s recommendation.
- Checking
java -versionin one account while the server runs under another account can test the wrong PATH. - Replacing the pack’s launcher with a manually typed command can omit required libraries or Forge arguments.
Run Forge for the first time and accept the EULA
Start the supplied launcher
- Open the AQM2 server directory.
- On Windows, run
run.bat. On Linux or another Unix-like system, make the supplied shell script executable if necessary and runrun.sh. - Allow the first startup to finish as far as it can. Forge may create files and then stop immediately because the Minecraft EULA has not yet been accepted.
Forge’s 1.19.2 documentation specifically notes that a dedicated server shuts down after its first run until the EULA is accepted in eula.txt. This first shutdown is expected; an unexplained error before the EULA file is created is a separate installation problem.

Accept the EULA and restart
- In the active server directory, open
eula.txtin a plain-text editor. - Read the Minecraft EULA. If you agree to it, change the line
eula=falsetoeula=true. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
- Run the same launcher again and wait for a message indicating that the server has finished loading. The first successful start can take longer while Forge and the mods build caches.
If the server repeats the EULA prompt, check that eula.txt is in the directory from which the launcher is running. Editing a similarly named file in a parent folder or a client instance will not satisfy the server.
Configure the server before inviting players
Stop the server cleanly before editing settings: use the server console command stop and wait until the process exits. Then open server.properties with a text editor.
Settings worth reviewing
motd: the name or message shown in the multiplayer list.difficulty: choose the world difficulty appropriate for your group.view-distance: controls how many chunks the server sends to players. Higher values increase work for the server and network.white-list: enable it when only named players should join, then add players with the console’s whitelist commands.server-port: leave the standard value, 25565, unless you have a specific reason to use another port.server-ip: normally leave this blank. Binding it to an incorrect local address can prevent the server from accepting connections.
Do not change unrelated properties simply to make the pack start. Record any intentional change so you can reproduce it after an update or restore it from backup.
Let players connect on the same network
For a player on the host’s home network, start the server and connect from Minecraft’s multiplayer screen using the host computer’s local address. When the client runs on the host itself, the documented local test address is localhost. Testing locally first separates mod and server problems from router problems.

- Start the server and wait until it is fully loaded.
- Launch the matching AQM2 client on the host or another computer on the same LAN.
- Choose Multiplayer, add a server, and enter
localhostwhen playing on the host computer. A second LAN computer should use the host’s private address, such as the address shown by the operating system’s network settings. - If the connection fails, allow Java through the host firewall and confirm that both machines are on the same network.
Let friends connect over the internet
Internet access requires more than starting the Forge process. Mojang’s server guidance warns that operators may need firewall and port-forwarding configuration, and identifies 25565 as the usual Java server port. Exposing a public address also carries security risk, so share it privately and allow only the traffic you intend to host.
Configure the host firewall
Create an inbound rule allowing the Java server process, or TCP traffic on the configured server port, on the network profile you actually use. If you change server-port, the firewall rule and router rule must use the same new port.

- Give the server computer a stable private LAN address, preferably through a DHCP reservation in the router.
- In the router’s port-forwarding or virtual-server page, forward TCP port 25565 to that private address.
- Keep the server’s
server-ipproperty blank unless you have a specific multi-interface configuration. - Restart the server and test from a network outside the home LAN. Testing only from inside the same router can produce misleading results because some routers do not support hairpin connections.
Give friends the right address
Friends outside your network use your public address and port, written as public-address:25565 when the client requires an explicit port. Do not post the public address in a public forum. If your internet provider changes it, you will need to send the new address; a changing address is a practical reason some groups choose managed hosting.

- the same AQM2 release as the server, not merely a pack with a similar name;
- the same Forge loader version supplied or required by that release; and
- the same required mod files and configuration assumptions.
A client from another Minecraft version, a newer AQM2 release, or a manually added client-only mod can produce a missing-mod, mismatched-version, or connection rejection message. Start by reproducing the server pack’s client installation exactly; add cosmetic or optional changes only after a clean connection works.

Operate and back up the world safely
Stop before copying
Never copy a live world while the server is writing region files. Enter stop in the console, wait for a clean shutdown, and then copy the world directory. A dated backup should include:
worldand any additional dimension or world directories created by the pack;config;defaultconfigs;server.properties,whitelist.json, and operator settings; and- the AQM2 server-pack version and any launcher changes.
Keep more than one dated backup and store at least one copy outside the live server machine. Before an update, make a fresh backup and note the version so you can roll back if a mod changes world data.
Update deliberately
Do not overwrite a working installation with files from another Minecraft version. Check that the AQM2 server pack and every required Forge mod supports the target version, test the update on a copied world, and keep the original installation untouched until the new one has started and accepted player connections.

Self-hosting versus managed modpack hosting
Self-hosting is appropriate when one player can maintain the computer and network. Managed hosting is an alternative when you want an externally reachable endpoint and a provider to handle much of the installation work. Modrinth describes its hosting as integrating modpack installation and providing SFTP access, although each provider’s terms and supported packs differ.

Managed hosting removes much of the router work, but it does not remove the need for matching client versions or sensible backups. Confirm that the provider supports the exact AQM2 1.19.2 server pack before moving a world.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
The server exits immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm Java 17 and 64-bit output. - Check the first meaningful error in
logs/latest.log, rather than focusing on the final cascade of errors. - Confirm that the launcher is being run from the extracted AQM2 server directory and that its libraries were not moved or deleted.
Mods are missing or the wrong versions load
Redownload the exact AQM2 1.19.2 server pack and extract it into a new directory. Mixing files from another pack release, Minecraft version, or client instance is the most direct way to create an inconsistent mod set.
The EULA prompt never clears
Verify that the file is named exactly eula.txt, is located in the active server directory, and contains eula=true after you have accepted the EULA. Check for an editor that silently saved eula.txt.txt and for a launcher that uses a different working directory.
Local connection works but friends cannot join
- Confirm local access with
localhoston the host machine. - Allow Java or the configured TCP port through the host firewall.
- Verify the router forwards TCP 25565 to the server computer’s current private address.
- Confirm friends are using the current public address and the correct port.
- Test from a genuinely external network and check whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, which can prevent inbound forwarding.
A client is rejected during login
Compare Minecraft 1.19.2, the Forge loader, the AQM2 release, and the mod list on the client and server. Remove manually added mods until a clean pack installation connects, then add changes one at a time.

- Use a separate, backed-up AQM2 1.19.2 server directory.
- Install and verify 64-bit Java 17.
- Extract the matching server pack, including its launcher and libraries.
- Run once, set
eula=trueonly after accepting the EULA, and run again. - Review
server.properties; leaveserver-ipblank unless required. - Test with
localhostbefore configuring internet access. - Allow Java through the firewall and forward TCP 25565 for remote players.
- Give every player the identical Minecraft, Forge, AQM2, and mod versions.
- Stop cleanly before backups, and preserve dated copies of the world and configuration.
Following that sequence isolates installation, licensing, configuration, and networking problems instead of changing several variables at once. It also leaves you with a recoverable server when an update or mod change goes wrong.
