To host an FTB StoneBlock 4 server, download the official server installer for your operating system, run it in a dedicated folder, accept the Minecraft EULA, enable command blocks, and start the generated launch script. The current StoneBlock 4 listing specifies Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, Java 21, at least 6 GB of RAM and 8 GB recommended. Players outside your home network also need a firewall rule and router forwarding for TCP port 25565.

StoneBlock 4 server requirements
Check these requirements before downloading anything. The pack’s own listing is more relevant than a generic modded-Minecraft estimate, because each modpack can have different loader, Java and memory requirements.

|---|---|---|
| Minecraft version | 1.21.1 | The server and every client must use a compatible pack and Minecraft release. |
| Mod loader | NeoForge | The installer supplies the loader and pack files; do not substitute a different loader. |
| Java | Java 21 | Use the Java version expected by this release rather than an older Java installation. |
| Memory | 6 GB minimum; 8 GB recommended | The host must have enough physical memory for the server and the operating system together. |
| Pack identity | Pack ID 130 | Useful when selecting or validating a release with the FTB installer. |
These values are volatile. The StoneBlock 4 page was checked on 14 October 2026, so verify the live requirements page and server-files browser immediately before setup. The pack was released on 29 October 2025 and the versions page showed a last update of 9 September 2026.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting is the right fit when you already have a computer that can remain available and you want direct control over files, backups, updates, firewall rules and uptime. It costs no separate hosting subscription, but you are responsible for electricity, network reliability, maintenance and recovery when something breaks.

A managed Minecraft host provides a web dashboard and support instead of requiring you to maintain the operating system and network yourself. Feed The Beast presents BisectHosting as its StoneBlock 4 hosting partner. Its page does not establish a universal price, plan size, regional availability, backup policy or performance guarantee, so check those details directly before ordering.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Download and run the installer, configure Java, firewall and router settings, then maintain the machine. | Provider dashboard handles much of the installation and network setup. |
| File and update control | Complete access to server files, scripts, worlds and release selection. | Control depends on the provider’s panel and file access. |
| Backups | You must schedule, store and test your own world backups. | Backup frequency and retention depend on the selected plan; verify them before purchase. |
| Network location | Players connect to your home or office internet connection. | You choose from the provider’s available regions, which may improve latency for distant players. |
| Support | You diagnose Java, mod, firewall and hardware problems yourself. | Support is available through the provider, subject to its terms and coverage. |
| Transfer and cancellation | Your files remain on your own machine. | Confirm how to download the world and configuration files before cancelling. |
Prepare the server computer
Use a dedicated directory
Create a new folder used only for this server, such as a folder named for the pack and release. Keep backups on a different drive or computer, not inside the live server directory. Separating backups protects them if a failed update, accidental deletion or corrupted world affects the active files.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check memory and Java
Reserve the pack’s recommended memory while leaving enough for the operating system and any other applications. A machine that technically meets the minimum but is also running a desktop, browser, recording software or several servers can still become unstable. If Java is already installed, check that it is Java 21. The FTB installer can download its own Java copy; that is useful when the host has an incompatible system Java. The installer README documents the -no-java option for operators who deliberately want to use an existing Java installation.
Plan the network
- For players on the same home network, identify the server computer’s private IP address.
- For players connecting over the internet, plan a stable private address for the server computer so the router rule does not point to a changing device.
- Make sure the host firewall can permit the Minecraft server process and its listening port.
- Only expose the game port; do not expose remote administration services to the public internet unless you have secured them separately.
Download the official server files
Use Feed The Beast’s official StoneBlock 4 server-files page. The page provides the pack’s releases and operating-system downloads. It currently shows pack ID 130 and a listed release of 1.23.0 with version ID 100554, but release choices can change.
- Open the StoneBlock 4 server-files browser and select the release you intend to run. Record the exact pack version so every player can install the same one.
- Choose the installer for the host operating system and CPU architecture. The page includes separate Intel/AMD and ARM macOS options; select the one matching the computer. Windows and Linux downloads are also provided from the same official page.
- Save the installer inside the dedicated server directory. Avoid placing it in a temporary downloads folder that may later be cleaned automatically.
- Keep the downloaded installer until the server has been installed and tested. It can help you recreate the same release if the generated files are damaged.
Install on Windows
- Open the server directory in File Explorer.
- Run the downloaded FTB installer executable. Approve the Windows security prompt only after confirming that the file came from the official server-files page.
- Answer the installer’s setup questions. It downloads and extracts the selected StoneBlock 4 files, including the NeoForge components and a generated launch script.
- When installation finishes, start
run.batfrom the server directory. A console window will display the first-start messages. - Read the console output rather than closing it immediately. The server may need to download additional files, generate the world and stop while waiting for EULA acceptance.
Do not double-click several copies of run.bat. Two server processes pointed at one world can lock files or corrupt the save.
Install on macOS or Linux
- Open a terminal and change to the dedicated server directory.
- Grant execute permission to the downloaded installer with
chmod +x. - Run the installer from that directory. It asks the setup questions and downloads the selected server files.
- After installation, start the generated script with
run.sh. On systems that require an explicit relative path, run it as./run.sh. - Keep the terminal session attached during the first launch so you can see download errors, Java errors and the EULA message.
The FTB guide is intended for FTB modpacks generally, but the generated files and prompts can vary by release. Follow the script and README created by the installer rather than copying a launch command from an older StoneBlock version.

Complete the first launch and accept the EULA
On the first start, the Minecraft server may stop and ask you to accept the EULA. Read the license, then follow the generated server instructions to record your acceptance and start the server again. The exact prompt and file names can vary by release, so use the files produced in your directory.
After the restart, wait for the console to report that the server is ready before attempting to connect. World generation can take time, and interrupting it by closing the window or killing the process can leave an incomplete save.
Enable command blocks for StoneBlock 4
Open server.properties in a text editor and set:
enable-command-block=true
Save the file and restart the server cleanly. The StoneBlock 4 server-owner note states that command blocks must be enabled; structures will not function correctly when they are disabled. If the property is missing, add it as a new line, then confirm that the server is reading the file from the same directory as the world and launch script.
Configure local and internet access
Players on the same network
Give local players the server computer’s private address. They can enter that address in Minecraft’s multiplayer screen, using the configured port if it is not the default. Test from a second device before changing router settings; a successful local connection confirms that the server is running and the host firewall is not blocking the process.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPlayers outside your network
- Allow the Java or server process through the host operating system’s firewall.
- Create a router port-forwarding rule for TCP port
25565, sending traffic to the server computer’s private IP address. Minecraft’s official server guidance identifies this port-forwarding step for external Java Edition players. - Find your public internet address and give it only to people who should join. If your internet provider changes that address periodically, players will need the new address unless you use a separate, properly secured dynamic-DNS service.
- Test from a connection outside your home network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing from inside the same network can succeed even when the router’s external forwarding is incorrect.
Some internet providers use carrier-grade NAT, which prevents inbound forwarding even when the router appears correctly configured. If outside testing fails while local connections work, ask the provider whether inbound connections are supported or use managed hosting instead.
Match the client and server versions
Every player must install the same StoneBlock 4 release selected in the server-files browser. A client on a different pack revision can fail during the handshake, report missing mods or load into an incompatible world. Have players copy the exact release number from your server setup rather than relying on an automatically selected “latest” profile.

The server uses NeoForge and Java 21 for the current listing. Players should use the FTB profile that installs those matching components; mixing a manually assembled mod list with the official profile makes version errors harder to diagnose.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Operate the server safely
Stop cleanly
Use the server console’s normal stop command or the shutdown control supplied by the generated script. Do not terminate the process or power off the computer while players are changing chunks. A clean stop flushes world data and releases files for backup.
Back up the world
- Tell players to log out.
- Stop the server cleanly and wait for the process to exit.
- Copy the world directory and important configuration files to storage outside the live server folder.
- Label the backup with the date and pack version.
- Occasionally restore a copy to a separate test directory so you know the backup is usable.
Keep more than one dated backup. A backup made after corruption or an unwanted configuration change is not a reliable recovery point.
Update deliberately
Before changing releases, stop the server and make a full backup. Read the new release notes and confirm that the required Minecraft, NeoForge and Java versions still match. Test the updated files with a copy of the world before allowing normal play. Never overwrite the only working installation while experimenting with a new release.
Useful FTB installer controls
The installer README documents controls that are useful for repeatable deployments and troubleshooting:
| Option | Purpose |
|---|---|
-pack |
Specify the pack value when an automated or scripted installation needs an explicit pack selection. |
-version |
Choose a specific StoneBlock 4 release instead of relying on an interactive selection. |
-auto |
Run the installer unattended, useful for repeatable provisioning after you have tested the chosen values. |
-validate |
Validate the installation or downloads when diagnosing incomplete or damaged files. |
-threads |
Set download concurrency. Higher concurrency can shorten downloads but may increase resource use or aggravate an unreliable connection. |
-no-java |
Prevent the installer from obtaining its bundled Java copy when you intentionally manage Java yourself. |
Use the exact syntax shown in the README shipped with your installer. Options and accepted values can change between installer revisions.

Troubleshoot common failures
The installer will not run on Windows
- Confirm that you downloaded the Windows installer rather than a macOS or Linux file.
- Move it into the dedicated server directory and run it again with permission to write there.
- Check that security software has not quarantined a downloaded component.
- Read the installer error text; a failed download is different from a Java or permission failure.
The installer says Java is incompatible
Use the installer’s Java download capability, or install the Java version required by the current StoneBlock 4 listing. If you selected -no-java, remove that choice or correct the system Java path. Verify the Java version before starting run.bat or run.sh.
The server starts and then stops
- Look for the EULA message and complete that step before restarting.
- Check the console for a missing Java version, failed download or insufficient memory.
- Run the installer’s validation control if files may be incomplete.
- Make sure only one launch script is running against the world.
Players can connect locally but not from the internet
Recheck the host firewall, the router’s TCP rule and the destination private IP address. Test from an external connection, not another device on the same Wi-Fi. If the provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not be possible.
A structure does not work in-game
Check server.properties and confirm that enable-command-block=true is present. Restart after editing; changing the file while the server is running may not apply until the next launch.
A player receives a mod or version mismatch
Compare the client’s StoneBlock 4 release with the server’s selected release, including the minor version. Have the player update or reinstall the matching FTB profile instead of adding individual mods by hand.
When managed hosting is the better choice
Choose managed hosting when you do not want a home computer running continuously, cannot configure inbound networking, need a provider region closer to your players or want support with routine server administration. Feed The Beast identifies BisectHosting as its partner for StoneBlock 4, but evaluate the current offer directly: confirm Java and pack support, allocated memory, player limits, backup retention, data-center location, file-download access and cancellation terms.
Self-hosting remains preferable when maximum file control, local backups and unrestricted access to launch scripts matter more than convenience. Whichever route you choose, retain an independent copy of the world so a hosting migration or account problem does not become a permanent loss.
