To host an Origins Adventure server on Minecraft 1.18.1, run a Fabric 1.18.1 server with Java 17, then install the Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip contents—or reproduce its files manually. The server and every player must use Minecraft 1.18.1, Fabric, Origins 1.3.2, Fabric API, and identical versions of the pack’s other mods. For a first Origins Adventure server, the server-pack path is the safer choice. Keep manual installation as the fallback when the ZIP does not match your desired mod list or when you are troubleshooting one component at a time.
Install and verify Java 17
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime on the computer that will run the server. A newer Java release may be installed for other applications, but the server process must actually launch with Java 17 for this Minecraft generation.

- Run
java -version. - Confirm that the reported major version is 17.
- If the command reports another version or is not found, install Java 17 and make it the runtime used by the server start command.
On a machine with several Java installations, checking the version in the same shell and directory where you will start Fabric is important. A system-wide installation can exist while the command still resolves to an older runtime. Do not continue until java -version shows Java 17.
Install Fabric for Minecraft 1.18.1
Fabric provides a server launcher and a manual server-installation path. Select Minecraft 1.18.1 in the installer rather than accepting a newer default. Use a clean directory dedicated to this server so that old vanilla JARs, unrelated worlds, and mods cannot be mistaken for the current installation.
- Create a new server folder, such as
origins-adventure-1181, and give your account read and write access to it. - Download the Fabric server launcher or run the Fabric server installer.
- Choose Minecraft version 1.18.1 and a compatible Fabric loader.
- Place the Fabric launcher and the generated server files in the new folder. Keep the launcher filename visible; you will use it in the start command.
- Do not copy mods into the folder yet. First perform the initial launch so Fabric can create its normal files.
The executable Fabric server launcher can serve as a replacement for a vanilla server JAR, including on a Minecraft-specific host that accepts custom server files. A host still needs to support Java 17 and custom Fabric uploads; those capabilities should be confirmed before you commit to a paid plan.
Run the first launch and accept the EULA
From the server directory, run the launcher without a graphical interface. Replace the filename in the template with the exact Fabric launcher JAR in your folder:

java -Xmx2G -jar <fabric server launcher jar file name> nogui
The -Xmx2G option gives the Java process a 2 GB maximum heap. It is a baseline, not a promise that every pack and player count will perform well with 2 GB. Start there, observe the server, and increase the limit only when the machine has enough unused memory and the workload justifies it.
On the first run, the server creates files and stops or refuses to continue until you accept Mojang’s EULA. Open eula.txt, change the agreement value to eula=true, save it, and run the same command again. If the process starts normally, stop it from the console with stop before installing the pack. Stopping cleanly lets the server finish writing its files and prevents a partially written world or configuration.
Install the Origins Adventure server pack
The pack route uses Origins Adventure’s Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip, identified for Minecraft 1.18.1 Fabric. Treat the ZIP as a coordinated server file set rather than opening it and copying only a few JARs.
- Make a backup of the clean Fabric directory after the EULA has been accepted and the server has been stopped.
- Open the server-pack ZIP and inspect its top-level folders and files.
- Extract the contents into the server root—the same directory containing the Fabric launcher and
eula.txt. - Preserve the ZIP’s folder structure. In particular, ensure the pack’s JAR files end up in the server’s
modsfolder rather than remaining inside the compressed archive. - Check for an accidental extra directory layer. If extraction creates a path such as
origins-adventure-1181/Origins-serverpack-3.0/with the actualmodsfolder inside it, move the contents up so the server can seemodsdirectly under its root. - Compare the resulting files with the pack’s included documentation, if present, before starting the server.
Do not add an independently downloaded Origins version on top of the pack without checking what the ZIP already contains. Duplicate or conflicting JARs can create loading errors. If you must replace a file, record the original filename and keep a rollback copy.
Build the installation manually when you need control
The manual route starts with the same Fabric 1.18.1 server and Java 17 requirements. Instead of extracting the complete server pack, place the chosen mod JARs in the server’s mods folder.
- Download Origins 1.3.2, the listed Origins release for Minecraft 1.18.1.
- Install the Fabric API version appropriate to the same Minecraft and Fabric combination.
- Identify every dependency required by Origins and by any additional mod you intend to use.
- Place the JAR files in the server’s
modsdirectory. Keep one copy of each file; do not leave multiple versions of the same mod in the folder. - Create a matching client package containing the same Minecraft version, Fabric loader family, Origins build, Fabric API, and dependency versions.
- Start the server and read the console from the first error line. A missing dependency usually names the mod or library that must be added.
Manual installation gives you more control but also makes you responsible for compatibility. A mod that works on the client alone may still require a server component, and a server-only component may not belong in the client folder. Follow each mod’s stated environment requirement and keep a plain-text manifest of filenames and versions.

Start the finished server
After the server pack or manual mods are in place, run the Fabric launcher from the server root:
java -Xmx2G -jar <fabric server launcher jar file name> nogui
Watch the console until Fabric finishes loading and the server reports that it is ready for connections. The first modded startup can take longer than later launches because world and configuration files are generated. If the process exits, scroll to the first exception rather than treating the final shutdown line as the cause.

- Use a larger
-Xmxvalue only if the computer has sufficient physical memory after allowing room for the operating system and other services. - Keep the terminal or host console attached while testing so you can see registry, dependency, and world-loading errors.
- Use the console command
stopfor shutdowns. Avoid killing the process while players are online.
Give every player an identical client installation
A player cannot normally join with only a vanilla 1.18.1 client. Each client should use Minecraft 1.18.1, Fabric, Origins 1.3.2, Fabric API, and the same modpack versions as the server. Distribute the exact client files, or provide a manifest that names each JAR and its version.
- Create a Fabric profile for Minecraft 1.18.1 in the player’s launcher.
- Install the client-side files from the same Origins Adventure pack version, or reproduce the manual mod list exactly.
- Copy the required JARs into the client’s
modsfolder. - Remove older Origins, Fabric API, or dependency JARs that could be loaded alongside the intended versions.
- Launch once in single-player or on the server list to confirm the profile loads without a mod error.
- Enter the server address only after the client reaches the title screen with the correct Fabric profile selected.
Version matching is an operational requirement, not merely a recommendation. A different Minecraft patch, Fabric loader, Origins build, or pack dependency can cause a failed handshake, missing registry entries, or a disconnect during login. When one player cannot join, compare that player’s complete file list with a known-working client before changing the server.
Configure the world and permissions
Once the server starts successfully, stop it and edit server.properties for the basic world and access settings. The exact property names are generated by the server; preserve the existing syntax and use one setting per line.
- Server name: Set the message players see in their multiplayer list.
- Difficulty: Choose the difficulty that fits your group; this is independent of which Origin a player selects.
- Whitelist: Enable it for a private group, then add players through the console or operator commands.
- Operator permissions: Grant operator status only to trusted administrators. Operators can change worlds, permissions, and other server state.
- Network port: Keep the configured port consistent with your firewall and host panel. If players connect from outside your home network, forward the port to the server machine according to your router’s instructions.
After editing, start the server again and verify that the console reflects the intended settings. Test with one player before opening access to the whole group.

Back up before inviting players and updating mods
Keep at least one untouched copy of the working server directory before the first public session. Back up the world while the server is stopped, or use a host’s snapshot feature if it provides one. Include the world folder, server.properties, whitelist and operator files, the mods folder, and the exact client manifest.
- Use a dated backup name so you can identify the last known-good pack and world.
- Back up before changing Origins, Fabric, the server pack, or world-affecting mods.
- Test an update on a copy of the world first; never use the only live copy as your experiment.
- Keep the previous mod set available so you can roll back if a new version changes registries or breaks loading.
Do not assume that a newer mod release is compatible with 1.18.1. The server’s Minecraft version, Fabric loader, Origins build, and dependency set should be treated as one tested unit.
Deploying on a managed Minecraft host
Fabric’s server launcher can be used as a drop-in replacement for a vanilla server JAR on Minecraft-specific hosting, but host panels differ. Before purchasing or migrating, confirm all of the following:
- The host supports Minecraft 1.18.1 rather than only current releases.
- You can select or supply Java 17 for the server process.
- The panel accepts a custom Fabric launcher JAR or allows a custom startup command.
- You can upload a ZIP, extract files into the server root, and place JARs in
mods. - Backups or snapshots can be scheduled and downloaded.
- The advertised player-slot limit and hardware allocation are appropriate for your pack and group.
- The host’s data-center location gives players acceptable network latency.
- Support staff will assist with custom modpack files, rather than limiting you to a proprietary installer.
For a server-pack deployment, upload the Fabric files first, perform the EULA launch, stop the process, and then extract Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip into the server root. For a manual deployment, upload the chosen JARs to mods and set the host panel’s startup command to the Fabric launcher. Preserve a local copy of every uploaded file in case the host resets the instance.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
The server reports the wrong Java version
Run java -version in the same environment used by the startup command. If it does not report Java 17, correct the system path or configure the host panel to use its Java 17 runtime. Restart the server after changing the runtime.
Fabric starts, but Minecraft or the loader is wrong
Reopen the Fabric installer and verify that Minecraft 1.18.1 is selected. Check the launcher filename and console output so you are not accidentally starting a vanilla JAR or a different server directory. Every client must also select a Fabric 1.18.1 profile.

Origins fails to load or a dependency is missing
Confirm that the server contains Origins 1.3.2 and that the client uses the same build. Check that Fabric API and every dependency named by the mod are present in the appropriate environment. Remove duplicate older JARs, then restart from a clean copy if the loader has generated conflicting configuration.

Compare the complete server and client mod lists, not just the Origins filename. Verify Minecraft 1.18.1, Fabric, Origins 1.3.2, Fabric API, and every pack dependency. A client copied from an earlier pack release can retain a single outdated JAR even when the rest of the files look correct.
The server-pack appears to do nothing
Stop the server and inspect the directory layout. The server should have its mods folder directly beneath the server root. If the ZIP was extracted into an extra nested folder, move the pack contents up one level while preserving the internal folders. Start again and inspect the console for the list of discovered mods.
The server exits immediately after launch
Read upward from the final shutdown message to the first error or exception. Typical causes include an incorrect Java version, a missing dependency, a duplicate mod version, a Fabric/Minecraft mismatch, or a damaged upload. Restore the last known-good backup, correct one variable at a time, and restart.
A managed host will not start the pack
Check whether the host is launching its own vanilla JAR instead of your Fabric launcher. Verify the custom JAR or startup-command setting, Java 17 selection, file permissions, and the location of eula.txt. If the panel cannot upload or extract custom files, it is not suitable for this installation without a supported modpack workflow.
