The current documentation points to roughly 4–5 GB of RAM for a normal installation, while a separate host guide lists 4,000 MB as a minimum. The 1.5.8 server archive is 371.7 MB and was uploaded in April 2025; newer 1.6.x and 1.7.x server packs are also available, so confirm the version before you install anything.

What SRP: Quarantine Zone is
SRP: Quarantine Zone (often shortened to SRP-QZ) is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. It is distributed through CurseForge with separate client and server downloads. A player installs the client pack; the machine that runs the world needs the server pack. Those archives are not interchangeable.

The server listing says the server archive removes more than 60 client-side mods and adds server-only mods. That division is why copying a client installation into a server folder commonly produces missing-mod, duplicate-mod, or startup errors. Start from the server archive instead of trying to edit the client pack.
Choose the release before you configure the server
Check the exact file name
Open the modpack’s Files tab and confirm the release named by your group. For release 1.5.8, the server file is SRPQZ-1.5.8-SERVER.zip. The file page identifies it as Forge, Minecraft 1.12.2, approximately 371.7 MB, uploaded in April 2025. The project also lists newer 1.6.x and 1.7.x server packs. A client on one release should not be expected to join a server running another.
#1 Best Overall
Keep every player’s client on the same build
- Write down the release number before downloading.
- Give players the matching client profile, not merely “SRP-QZ” without a version.
- Do not replace individual mods in the server folder to force a different client build; obtain the corresponding server archive instead.
- If the Files tab has been updated since your group chose 1.5.8, decide deliberately whether to stay on 1.5.8 or migrate everyone to the newer release.
Version-specific instructions are not completely interchangeable. In particular, the generator-port setting described in the project documentation is confirmed for a newer release, not specifically for 1.5.8.
SRP-QZ server requirements
The published figures conflict slightly, and none of the available summaries gives a release-specific requirement for the 1.5.8 pack. Use the following as planning guidance rather than as a guarantee.
| Source or context | RAM | Storage | CPU | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CreeperHost SRP page | 4,000 MB minimum | 5 GB minimum SSD | 2 × 4.5 GHz minimum | A host’s stated floor; the CPU figure is best treated as a marketing target, not a universal technical threshold. |
| CurseForge project page for a newer release | 4–5 GB recommended; 3 GB can run server play | Not stated | Not stated | The most useful general memory guidance in the available project information. |
| Newest server file summary | 5–6 GB | Not stated | Not stated | A summary of a newer file, not a verified 1.5.8 requirement. |
| 1.5.8 file page | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | No release-specific figures were found on that file listing. |
Memory
Reserve the project-page recommendation for the Java heap, then leave additional memory for the operating system and other services. The 3 GB figure is described as workable for server play, not as a comfortable target for a busy public server. More than a few simultaneous friends, large explored areas, or extra server utilities justify moving above the baseline. Allocating all physical RAM to Java can make the host less stable, so keep headroom outside the heap.
CPU
Modded Minecraft is sensitive to single-thread performance. The two-core, 4.5 GHz figure published by one host should not be read as a requirement that every core reach that clock; it is a provider-specific minimum. Prefer a modern processor with strong per-core performance and avoid heavily oversubscribed virtual CPUs when choosing a hosted plan.
Storage
The 1.5.8 archive alone is about 371.7 MB. A 5 GB SSD minimum leaves limited room for the unpacked server, logs, backups, and a growing world, so treat it as a floor. Allocate additional space before exploring widely or keeping several backup generations.
Self-hosting: complete setup procedure
1. Prepare a clean server directory
- Create a dedicated directory for this instance, separate from your client installation and any other Minecraft server.
- Download the server archive for the release you selected from the CurseForge Files tab. For 1.5.8, verify that the file is named
SRPQZ-1.5.8-SERVER.zip. - Extract the archive into the new directory. Do not merge it into an existing modpack folder; old mods and configuration files can create conflicts that are difficult to diagnose.
2. Install Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2
Install the Forge server version required by the pack and point the installer at the dedicated directory. Then run the generated Forge server launcher once so it can create its libraries, configuration files, and world directory. Follow the launcher’s prompts and the pack’s included documentation rather than substituting a different Minecraft version.
Recommended Free Tools
On the first launch, the server may stop and ask you to accept Minecraft’s EULA. Read and accept it in the generated EULA file only if you agree to its terms, then start the Forge server again.
3. Set the Java heap
Put the heap settings in the launch script or service that starts the Forge server, not in a client launcher. Set the maximum heap to the recommendation you selected from the requirements table and choose an initial heap that does not consume all available system memory. Keep the generated Forge jar name intact; Forge installers can produce different names depending on the build.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
If the server starts but repeatedly pauses, runs out of memory, or exits during world generation, stop it, inspect the latest log, and increase the available memory only when the machine has unused RAM. A larger heap cannot compensate for an underpowered CPU or a faulty mod configuration.
4. Apply the pack’s world-generator setting
The project documentation for a newer release says to paste a specific value into the defaultworldgenerator-port= line in server.properties. Some distributed server.properties files already contain that value. The exact value and its applicability to 1.5.8 were not established, so do not guess or copy it blindly between releases:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- For a newer release whose documentation specifies the setting, copy the value exactly as documented.
- For 1.5.8, inspect the included documentation and server.properties first. If the line is absent or the instructions do not mention 1.5.8, leave it unchanged until the pack maintainer’s instructions confirm what to use.
- Make a backup of server.properties before editing, and restart after saving the file.
5. Configure basic access
Set the server name, difficulty, and other gameplay options in server.properties only after the pack has generated the file. Give trusted players operator status from the server console and enable a whitelist if the world is private. Keep the console visible during initial testing so you can see Forge and mod errors immediately.
6. Allow network connections
For a server on a home connection, permit the Java/Forge process through the operating-system firewall and forward the Minecraft server port from your router to the host machine. The router, firewall, and ISP all affect reachability; test from a different network rather than relying on a connection from the same computer. If forwarding is impossible because the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, a managed host or a private networking solution is usually simpler than repeated router changes.

- Now Minecraft lovers can play a special version of UNO!
- Same as Basic UNO but features Minecraft characters and includes special Creeper rule card. Draw this card and the other players have to draw three more cards from the pile!
- The goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand.
- First player or team to 500 wins.
- When you're down to one card, don't forget to yell "UNO"!
7. Test with one matching client
- Start the server and wait until the console reports that it has finished loading.
- Connect from a client running the identical SRP-QZ release and Minecraft/Forge version.
- Walk a short distance, generate a few chunks, disconnect, and restart the server.
- Review the log after the restart. Early testing catches world-generation and memory problems before several players add more chunks and entities.
Garbage collection and lag tuning
The project page recommends G1 garbage-collector arguments if lag appears, but the exact flag values were not captured in the available material. Do not paste JVM options copied from an unrelated Minecraft guide. Use the exact G1 arguments documented on the SRP-QZ project page for your release, and change one setting group at a time so you can identify whether it helped.

Managed hosting instead of a home machine
A managed host removes most operating-system, router, and uptime work. You still need the correct server pack and release, but installation is handled through a control panel or support process. Compare providers on the things that materially change the experience: cost, hardware control, version selection, DDoS protection, and setup effort.
| Provider or listing | What the listing says | What to verify before paying |
|---|---|---|
| CreeperHost | Instant setup, mod support, and DDoS protection are advertised; its Premium tier is presented as the usual recommendation. | Available RAM, single-core performance, SSD capacity, backup policy, player limits, and whether the exact SRP-QZ release is preinstalled. |
| ScalaCube | SRP: Quarantine Zone can be installed through its Control Panel. | Which 1.5.8, 1.6.x, or 1.7.x build the installer provides and whether you can upload a different server archive. |
| BoxToPlay | A one-click installation is listed for version 1.5.8 on Forge 1.12.2. | The plan’s memory allocation, storage, backup limits, and upgrade path for more players. |
| StickyPiston | Publishes an SRP: Quarantine Zone server-hosting page. | Current availability, supported pack releases, console access, and migration or cancellation terms. |
No current prices were established in the available listings, so compare the checkout price and renewal price directly. A one-click button does not guarantee that the newest pack or your chosen historical release is available; ask support for the exact file name and Forge version before ordering.
When managed hosting is the better choice
- You cannot configure router forwarding or your connection changes frequently.
- You want provider-side DDoS mitigation and a support team familiar with modded servers.
- You prefer a control panel for backups, restarts, and changing releases.
When self-hosting is the better choice
- You need complete control over files, JVM settings, backups, and configuration.
- You already have a machine with adequate single-core performance and SSD space.
- You are comfortable troubleshooting Forge logs, firewall rules, and world backups.
Common problems and reliable fixes
“Missing mods” or an immediate client disconnect
First compare the client and server release numbers. Then confirm that the server was built from the server archive, not the client archive. Reinstalling the matching client profile is safer than copying individual jar files between installations.
Best Value
The server stops during startup
Read the first error and its surrounding stack trace in the latest log. Check that Forge is for Minecraft 1.12.2, that the server directory is clean, and that the Java heap leaves memory for the operating system. Revert the most recent configuration change and test again rather than deleting the world immediately.

Check the host firewall, router forwarding target, and the address given to remote players. Test from a mobile connection or another household. If the public address is behind carrier-grade NAT, contact the ISP or use managed hosting.
World generation causes freezes
Stop exploring new terrain while you inspect the log and resource usage. Confirm that the release-specific defaultworldgenerator-port= instruction was followed only when the pack documentation applies to your build. Keep a backup before regenerating or changing world settings.
Lag gets worse as more players arrive
Measure CPU and memory while the lag occurs. More players require more headroom than the minimum figures, and a high heap allocation cannot fix a weak single thread. Apply only the G1 options documented for your release, then retest with the same activity so the comparison is meaningful.
Pre-launch checklist
- Every player and the server use the same SRP-QZ release.
- The server folder came from the file marked
SERVER.zip. - Forge is installed for Minecraft 1.12.2.
- The machine has at least the published baseline memory and additional headroom for the operating system.
- SSD space covers the archive, unpacked files, logs, backups, and world growth.
- The world-generator setting was checked against the documentation for the exact release.
- Firewall and router rules have been tested from an outside network.
- A tested backup exists before inviting the full group.
Bottom line
Use the matching SRP-QZ server pack, not the client pack; keep the installation on Forge 1.12.2; and plan around the project page’s 4–5 GB recommendation while recognizing that the 1.5.8-specific requirement is not published. Self-hosting gives you control over files and Java, but requires networking and maintenance. Managed hosting reduces setup effort and may add DDoS protection, while the exact release, memory allocation, storage, and current price must be confirmed with the provider before purchase.
