First identify your Minecraft edition (Bedrock or Java), the device you’re using, and what you downloaded. A complete world, Marketplace item, and structure or schematic file are different things; there is no single import method that works for every build and platform.
Choose the import route for your build

Java and Bedrock are separate editions; Minecraft’s multiplayer guidance says players must join worlds hosted by the same edition. Check the edition label in your game before following instructions or downloading content: Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock edition guide.
Use Bedrock Marketplace content
- Launch Minecraft Bedrock Edition and open Marketplace.
- Open My Library and select the content you own or have access to.
- Choose the action shown for that item: Download, Create this World, or Equip. The available action depends on the content type.
For an add-on, open the settings for a new or existing world and activate the add-on there. Marketplace content is handled in the game; it is not imported by moving a Java world folder.
Transfer a Bedrock world to another device with Realms
This route is for moving a Bedrock world between devices, not for importing every kind of downloaded build file. Minecraft’s procedure requires an active Realms trial or paid subscription and recommends updating both devices before you start.

- On the device that currently has the world, open the world’s settings and upload the world to your Realm, following the in-game Realms prompts.
- On the destination device, sign in with the account that can access the Realm and open the Realm’s world options.
- Download the uploaded world to the destination device. The downloaded world appears as a copy on the Worlds tab.
Use Minecraft’s Bedrock world transfer instructions for the current in-game prompts. Keep the original on the host device until you have confirmed the downloaded copy opens correctly.
Download a Java world from a Realm
- In Java Edition, open Minecraft Realms and choose Configure for the Realm.
- Open World Backups, select Download Latest, then choose Continue.
- Return to the single-player world list and select the downloaded world.
Minecraft’s Realm download instructions describe this as adding the world to single-player worlds.

Import a Java world backup folder
This method applies to a complete Java world folder on a computer, not a standalone schematic or structure file. Unpack the backup first. Then move the actual world folder—the folder containing the world’s data—into the Java Edition saves folder. Minecraft’s official instructions list these locations:

~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves
Start Minecraft Java Edition and select the world from Singleplayer. If the world does not appear, check that you copied the world folder itself rather than leaving it nested inside another archive or folder. The source procedure is on Minecraft’s Portuguese-language backup help page.

If Minecraft does not recognize the build
- Confirm what the download contains. A complete world, Marketplace item, add-on, structure, and schematic are not interchangeable file types.
- Check the edition and version. Look for the creator’s stated Minecraft edition and version, then confirm they match the game you are using.
- Check the destination platform. A procedure documented for a computer or one edition may not apply to a console or the other edition.
- Do not assume Java-to-Bedrock compatibility. The procedures described here do not establish a direct cross-edition import method.
- For a structure or schematic file, follow its own instructions. The official procedures above do not establish one universal workflow for importing these files across platforms.
