The way to play Overcooked with friends depends on which game you own. The original Overcooked is local-only; Overcooked 2 supports online play, with cross-play limits; and Overcooked! All You Can Eat is Team17’s option for cross-platform multiplayer. In All You Can Eat, up to four people can play locally or online. For cross-platform play, every player needs that edition.
How do I play with friends?
First, check the game edition each person owns and whether you want to play in the same room or online. The original Overcooked is for local multiplayer. Overcooked 2 adds online play, but platform compatibility matters. Team17 identifies Overcooked! All You Can Eat as the cross-platform option.

Can we play online?
Yes, if you have Overcooked 2 or All You Can Eat and your platforms support the way you want to connect. In All You Can Eat, Team17 says campaign sessions use friend invites. Arcade offers matchmaking or private sessions, and local players can join an online session. The game supports up to four players total, whether playing online or offline. Team17 FAQ
- For a campaign, open the game’s friend-invite option and invite the people you want to play with.
- For Arcade, choose matchmaking to find a session or select a private session to play with invited friends.
- Before inviting across platforms, confirm everyone owns All You Can Eat and that cross-platform play is enabled. Team17 says it can be turned off in the game settings. Team17 FAQ
Can I play with my friend on a different platform?
For Overcooked! All You Can Eat, Team17 lists cross-platform play for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S, and says all levels can be played cross-platform. Every player in that cross-platform group must own All You Can Eat. Overcooked 2 is not a universal cross-play solution: Team17’s guidance distinguishes console play from a Steam/Epic PC cross-play branch with a version requirement. Because that guidance does not establish a complete current setup for every platform pairing, confirm the exact platform and game version before arranging a session.
How do we play local couch co-op?
Start local play on the platform you’re using, then add the other players from the game’s local-player setup. All You Can Eat supports up to four players total, including the person hosting the session, and works offline. Team17’s player limit applies across platforms; the exact controller setup varies by platform, so follow the prompts shown in your game. Team17 FAQ

Can phones act as controllers on a TV?
Yes. Netflix Games documents a same-room TV option for All You Can Eat: the host opens Netflix on a compatible TV, starts the game and chooses a mode. Other players scan the on-screen QR code with their phone or tablet, using the Netflix app or device camera, and join as controllers. The host needs an active Netflix subscription and game access; other players need the latest Netflix app. Up to four players total can join, including the host. How many players can play Overcooked?
In Overcooked! All You Can Eat, the limit is four players total—one player and up to three friends—online or offline. Team17’s FAQ describes support across its listed platforms. Its 2020 FAQ also reports 191 Campaign/Kevin levels and 17 Versus levels; those are publisher-reported counts from that dated FAQ, not a guarantee of a current level count. Team17 FAQ

How can we make a session less frantic?
If the timed kitchen pressure is getting in the way, try Assist Mode. Team17 describes options including slower recipe timeouts, longer round timers, and skipping levels; its FAQ also says order expiration can be turned off.
